"Did you find anything? You've been pretty absent, man," Asher asked me.

I was worried, working, finding out, investigating. I had to help Maximus, we had so many problems and so few solutions.

"Yeah... I thought we were right. Randall was there. In fact, I'm pretty sure he was in Her Majesty's chambers at the time of the attack. I was afraid he might have taken important information with him," I confessed.

Even though I knew the truth now, I couldn't tell him everything I knew. I needed to discuss this with the king, and I still couldn't tell Asher the truth about what had happened with Ava.

I promised to give her some time to sort things out with her master herself... but the reality was that the demoness was missing.

"I knew it! That bastard... we have to catch him in the act. Then we can settle this, and he won't spend any more time with my mate," Asher said.

"I've seen him sneak out of his room a few times at night when he thinks we're all asleep. I want to see if he's meeting with our enemies," I confessed. This was a nightmare.

"I've spoken to the castle workers, but they still haven't found the woman who encouraged them to enter my room," he said, visibly annoyed.

"Be alert... don't let your guard down for a minute. And enjoy the time with your mate... I'm sure when she gets to River Ash... you'll definitely be together."

"I hope you're right with all my heart," he said smugly.

I stayed vigilant outside the castle, following Randall, and if my heart had been beating and alive, it would have jumped at this moment, for I found him waiting for someone beyond the gardens.

How he had managed to elude everyone's vigilance and seem almost unnoticeable was beyond me.

I was far away, but my senses helped me to hear, and I was almost singing of victory when I saw someone approaching and swore it was an Alpha, a vampire, or a rogue. But no, it was another man, and from the descriptions I had been given, it seemed to be his beta.

"Ivan..."

"Alpha... I have the information you requested. The announcement has already been made to our warriors, the humans they find will be part of our new merchandise," he said.

"Merchandise? Like what they did at the bar? No way," I thought.

"Great... a place will be set up outside the pack, it will never be a fixed location and our clients will access by invitation only. Our clients will be satisfied," Randall said, giving details. It was obvious that they had been planning this for a while.

"Alpha... Jenny told me something I can't believe..." the Beta said, and Randall looked uncomfortable and annoyed.

"I don't know what you know, but..."

"That human... disgusting and smelly, is that your supposed mate? Will it be our Luna?" the Beta asked, and Randall grabbed him by the collar.

"Don't you dare tell her that..."

"There must be a mistake, you must have been bewitched by her and faked the mate bond. There's no way that human has a mate, let alone an alpha!" said the beta, who didn't seem to be afraid to speak his mind.

"She's my mate so you better shut up!" Randall said, squeezing his friend's neck until when Ivan's face turned red, Randall let go and he fell to the ground panting.

"Do as I say and stay out of these matters."

"But..."

"Trust what I tell you. She's what I need," Randall said, kicking him out of there.

She is what he needs... Is he talking about the prophecy? He must know, surely he must know. Still, I don't see how the miss can help us. But… she drew the Whisperers... there's something special about her.

I thought maybe Randall was going to meet someone else or talk to someone else, but nothing. Damn. I thought I had him. And yet I smelled sulfur and saw nothing... but I heard the whispers.

"The time is coming... the time of sacrifice," is all I could hear. Randall seemed afraid, as if he didn't like this.

Damn, how could I catch something I couldn't see?

But the king would believe me, I had to talk to him. As I followed Randall to his room... I noticed a she-wolf entering his room very carefully and stealthily.

Probably no one would see her at this hour but me. The woman knew exactly what time to come when the guards were changing.

"I got you, Randall... maybe it's not what I wanted, but I'll find out soon," I said satisfied.

I stood and listened and sure enough... there was something going on in there. The woman didn't come out, and I finally left. But on my way back to my rooms, I met someone else.

"Duncan... Is something wrong?"

"I need you to tell me what's going on with Ava... she's very worried. And I feel like you have something to do with it," he said, coming over to me.

He and I got along very well, but suddenly I saw a side of him I didn't recognize.

Obsession? Jealousy?

"You should ask her..." I said very firmly.

Of course, he didn't like my answer. Poor Beta didn't know what to do, he paced back and forth without taking his eyes off me. I wasn't an enemy and not just any opponent, and he knew it.

"Do you want her? You know, you can tell me."

"What is it, Duncan? I've never seen you like this..." he shook his head as if he was trying to push away ideas in his head.

"I don't know... I just don't like to see her suffer. Be honest with me," he said, and I reached over and put my hands on his shoulders.

"It's her problem. I promise you. I'm sure if she wants, she'll tell you eventually. But I trust that this will all work out for the best for everyone," I told him. He sighed and walked away, defeated.

Probably Ava wouldn't tell him anything. She had a secret that she knew would end everything.

"This is not normal wolf behavior with a random woman," I thought to myself.

Things were getting weirder and weirder, even for me, who had seen almost everything. But a demon with a wolf, behaving like mates? That would be a first.
