Werewolf
Sold by my Alpha, bought by my Mate Chapter 138: An omen
Randall
"How could you lose him? How is it possible that an army was defetead by a single wild Alpha?" the demons said, unable to believe what had happened.
Not only had we come back empty-handed, but Asher had escaped almost effortlessly, Ava had been injured, and several Renegade warriors had been massacred.
"We've lost all our advantage!" they shouted, their voices sounding terrifying.
"The loyalty of the Renegades was compromised from the beginning. It's obvious they had no intention of doing their part," the vampire said, looking at me with disdain.
After all, they had come to me and I had accepted them, but this was no way my fault.
"The pack felt invincible when they captured the Alpha, but now everyone understands their place. Balthazar almost kill everyone..." I add.
But of course the demons were not happy. It had been a low blow, especially since we were falling apart, fighting among ourselves, exactly what our enemy wanted.
I didn't flinch when the demons punished Alpha Vikram, nor when the Renegade pack was completely subdued, nor when the vampire Balthazar suggested that we should attack immediately.
The only thing I could think of was that I had Asher so close, and because of my ego and hatred, I had lost the golden opportunity to kill him. After all, that was what I wanted.
My main goal was to have Mildred and mark her, and I wouldn't be able to do that if that fool was alive.
I couldn't stop lamenting. And now that the attack on the castle was imminent, I went to the only person I really trusted. Ironically.
"You look better," I said to the demoness, who had her arm wrapped in a cloth and cuts on her face.
I didn't know if she was being very stupid or if she couldn't help saving me because of the talisman. It worked, I thought. I really had her on my side. That was the only explanation for her heroic act.
Asher was not as fool as I'd always said he was, because I could see in his eyes that he wouldn't miss the chance I'd wasted. He wanted to kill me, he was really close, if not for Ava... maybe he would have done it.
She had run to catch him, and the bastard had pushed her into the void. My doubts about her had disappeared, she wasn't even strong enough, she had survived that fall by sheer luck.
"A little better," she said, moving with difficulty.
Balthazar had nothing to say against her either, and after we'd set things right and found her crawling out of the cliff, telling us where Asher had fled, the vampire even helped her heal himself. She had earned our trust, what could we do?
"The attack on the castle is approaching, you need to get better," I told her.
"Have you stopped drinking vampire blood?" she asked. I nodded.
It had cost me, but I kept it in my mouth and then spat it out. It had affected me to have it out of my system, but after two days I started to feel like myself again. Of course, I was afraid the demons would notice.
"You need to have the talisman close to you, around your neck or wrist, so that the energy flows better between you," she explained.
At another time it would have seemed like a strange suggestion, but now I believed her. I did as she said and put it on my wrist.
"And what do we do now?"
"For now, follow the lead of my brothers. They have the best plan of attack and stay alert for when it's our moment," she said. I nodded.
"We leave in the morning," was the last thing I told her, and I went to my Beta.
Everything was happening fast, and I wouldn't have time to organize everything I needed to do before I left and went to my destination.
"No sign of Jessica, Alpha. I don't know if she escaped or had help. They say one of the uniforms of the free wolf warriors is missing," he told me.
Now those Free Wolves had taken on a more important role since we had trusted them for much of the attack, given the loss of men we had suffered with the Renegades, and I was liking these people less and less.
"I really doubt that Jessica is smart enough to escape on her own... but I must admit that we were very distracted in those last moments."
"I think the same, but the war is getting closer... What can I do to help, Alpha?"
"I want you to be with me at the moment of battle and keep a close eye on Ava. She will help us get what we want. I trust her, she saved my life. We have to get all the information we can from the demons, we have to stay a few steps ahead of them to defeat them," I confirmed to him.
I clearly feel that the moment of my destiny has arrived, that what I have to face today and the rest of the coming days of war will determine my future, and as we approach the King's territories, I see our allies.
We had suffered a significant blow, but with still have such a large army, I felt we were unstoppable. The men crowded the path, while the advance told us that they were preparing for war in the castle.
This morning was like no other, and I knew the world would change forever.
"The king has called all his allies, and they are approaching the castle," said one of our warriors.
"Then the king's end will be in his own home. We will destroy everything he loves, we will bury him and his entire kingdom," I said confidently.
Suddenly I was called to one of the tents where the demons were, they looked mysterious.
"Your moment has come Alpha, show us what you have to offer and don't disappoint us," they said.
Suddenly, they reached out to me as I stood in the middle of the circle among them. I had the impression that they wanted to use me to see my mate and the future that awaited us, and when I felt everyone's hands on me, my body shook.
I saw the war in the castle and quickly different scenarios where sometimes we won and sometimes we lost. I saw Asher back in his pack with Mildred, carrying a small child and extremely happy.
I saw the King destroying our allies as his realm grew larger and more impenetrable, showing himself to be as cruel as anyone and making everyone pay for his suffering.
Now I didn't see them, but I saw myself bleeding, my body in pieces, while a part of me knew what was happening. I was fully aware of my failure.
I felt pain all over my body and running through the forest as if I didn't have a human body, a spirit that was somehow free and ruling, but I had nothing and was nobody.
The thought tortured me; death, a future where I was nothing. Where no one would remember me. When they let go of me, I felt cold all over and trembled with fear.
"This is what awaits us, Alpha, and the end is what will happen if you turn against us. Both the king and we can end you. Think carefully about your next steps," one of them said to me, and I didn't even know how to react.
"You will go to the castle, you will take your mate, and you will bring her to us. And if we find out that you are doing anything else... consider yourself dead"
