"An Alpha? It had been centuries since a werewolf had come to the Whisperers for help," said a voice that was not only whispering but was actually impossible to determine where it was coming from.

The voices seemed to come from everywhere, as if they spoke with an intensity that surrounded me with an aura of mystery.

I was in such a dark place that the light barely penetrated, and I felt it slowly draining the warmth from my body and my courage as well.

"Why did the Alpha come here? To a place where only the brave or the desperate ventured," another voice asked. Or the same, it was hard to tell.

I stayed where I was and sharpened my eyes. Werewolves were supposed to be able to see from great distances and even in the darkest places, for we were children of the night. But this place defied everything I was. And everything I believed.

After a short time, I began to see movement in the distance. I imagined them to be men or women like Ava, strong, fierce, and intimidating, but instead, they were strange creatures.

When I could see them better, I couldn't tell where they began and where they ended; they were elongated as if they were pieces of gray, translucent hanging from somewhere.

The whisperers were strange and vaguely human, as if they had an ethereal appearance, shrouded in shadows or mist. Three of them approached me, though there seemed to be more behind them.

I swallowed and at the same time tried to keep my composure, as if I knew what I was doing.

"I have come here to ask for your help..." I said, and immediately one of them stood in front of me, his eyes seemed to shine with a supernatural glow, radiating a sense of power and deep knowledge.

They weren't human eyes, nor were they like anything I had ever seen before. At the same time, they seemed empty, like the eyes of a blind man.

"And how could the Whisperers help the young Alpha?" one of them asked in front of me, and I was surprised that they had information about me.

"Don't be surprised, Alpha, the Whisperers are demons after all... even if the devil himself has taken away our ability to speak properly..." another one said.

"And the great power of demons is to know... to know the deepest desires and paralyzing fears of potential enemies or allies," the whisperer said, and I was petrified. But I continued with my plan.

"I need to know a secret, how to steal an object..."

"And what object would that be?"

"An object of a demon that binds her to his master," I said, and I heard sighs or whispers, I didn't know.

"The young Alpha wants more power than he has, that's not surprising. Wolves always want more, it's their undoing," one said.

"The wolf is looking for a sacred talisman..."

"Sacred talisman?" I asked.

"That's what it's called... There are not many known, there are not many demons that willingly stay on earth, let alone associate with mortals. At least this one..."

"...is not bound to a mortal. The Alpha is asking for Ava's talisman..." another added. Suddenly, I felt the tense atmosphere, as if there was smoke or fog that didn't let me breathe.

"That's right... I want her sacred talisman, the bracelet on her wrist."

"Our young Alpha seems to have done his research correctly. Yes, this is the talisman that binds the demoness to the great Alpha King, I understand then that you know the consequences of this... she could lose her King's favor, and you could earn his wrath... And in both cases you could die," the voice said, and I didn't want to waste any more time. I just wanted an opportunity with Mildred.

"Just tell me if you know how to get it..."

"Ohh, I forgot, humans are always in a hurry and with the urge to die. Of course, we know, she was our sister many centuries ago."

"Then tell me, and we'll make a deal," I answered.

"And what does the Red Moon Alpha offer?" asked another.

"Whatever you want, except my pack," I answered and heard what seemed to be laughter.

"It must be the young Alpha's first negotiation... I warn him, he should know that what we want is not an answer that favors him," one said. I shuddered.

"Demons want as many things as humans do, and they are willing to get them with the darkest intentions, even more than wolves and humans. And they do it without remorse," another added.

"But... just because you want to mess with our sister who helped us get out of hell and lose everything... we won't take his suggestion so literally, but the Alpha has to know that he has to speak carefully in front of the demons," one said. And I guessed it was something like an act of good faith. I felt nervous, but I still composed myself.

"I understand. What the whisperers are interested in, and I'll see if I'm able to give it..." I answered.

"Much better... the Whisperers... we have an important goal in mind: power on Earth, and the Alpha could give it to us. We are isolated here, trapped and unable to reach the rest of the world."

"And what can I do?"

"A war against the King is coming, the young Alpha already knows, and we need him on our side when the time comes. We'll ask him to put aside his support for his species and fight for the Shadows..." he said, and even though my father had already said something like that, it still hit me.

The war against the king, what Marco wanted, the late Alpha of the Crimson Fangs, what my brother and father had wished for.

"If you tell me how to get Ava's sacred talisman... I will be on the side of the Shadows in the coming war..." I said.

Immediately, I felt a burning sensation on my wrist, a red line appeared and encircled it like a small snake until it closed and slowly disappeared, although I was left with this throbbing pain.

"The Whisperers accept and will fulfill their promise and force the Alpha to fulfill his. Will also protect the Alpha… when the time comes…"

"What do I need to know?" I asked, eager to get out of here.

I had the strange feeling that I had surrendered my soul for the worst purposes.
