Ava

Everything was supposed to be resolved, at least before anyone found out my secret, and the vampire... had advanced. And now he had me between a rock and a hard place.

I was convinced that Randall had gotten into my room and through it into my master's room. I went through his things, his desk, and I could smell a faint odor of blood that was not the King's.

Would Randall have found out? What had happened to my master?

"Damn!" I yelled as I desperately searched for answers.

Framing Randall had seemed harder than I'd thought, he hadn't left much evidence behind...and frankly, I had nowhere to start.

I had walked by his room the few times he had left it, and there was absolutely nothing...the only odd thing was a strange wolfish smell.

If he was stupid enough to be sleeping with Omegas from the castle, it didn't surprise me at all.

What was nowhere to be found, no matter how many times I looked for it, was my talisman. Randall didn't seem to move or go anywhere without my talisman.

Even as I searched for evidence to stop him, I knew it was my fault. Mine alone.

For a demon, I felt truly awful. Innocent people had died, many had been injured... and my master was on the verge of collapse. I don't think I'd ever seen him like that in all the years we'd been together.

I felt guilty, and I knew there was no way to fix it, I had to confront Randall no matter what. If it was before the eclipse, all the better.

I was sure that Little Thing would choose the big Alpha, he was stubborn and pigheaded, but he obviously loved her, and he would take care of her.

Not only was he a better option than Randall, but any Alpha was a better choice than Ratdall. But against all odds, they really were right for each other.

But maybe it wouldn't end there... what would happen when Little Thing rejected Randall? Nothing good, surely.

Anyway, I felt like nothing mattered anymore because my secret was about to come out.

"It's not what you think," I said, stressed.

"Then tell me right now before you get locked up for treason," Jeremiah said, threatening me.

"I would never do anything against my master! At least not of my own free will..." I would say, and he would look at me insistently.

"Your free will? That means..."he said, looking at my bracelet, I had a copy.... and the little vampire wasn't stupid. Cute, but not stupid.

"Your talisman... you lost your talisman," he said in shock, putting two and two together

"Lost is not the right word..." I reply.

"Randall...isn't that why so many strange things are happening?" he said, sitting down and holding his head.

I thought if anyone found out I would be horrified, and I was, but a part of me was also relieved that I could share this secret...that I didn't feel trapped by being the only one to carry it on my shoulders.

"It's a tragedy..." he says, horrified.

"He surprised me and threatened me.... when I was least aware of it, I was trapped by him. It was all my fault and now my master is in danger," I tell him, I don't know if it was an excuse or what, but it was the truth. But he tells me something I didn't expect.

"I know what's going on with His Majesty..."

"No... that's not..." I tried to deny it.

"I know very well, Ava... he confessed it to me himself," he said. I couldn't believe it.

"There's no point in hiding it anymore, we have to act now. I talked to him, we have to find a solution."

"You don't understand, Jeremiah... if anyone finds out, if our enemies know about her disease..." I said, frightened.

It seemed that all my fears had come together that day to confront me. A demoness with fears... Who would have thought?

"Nothing will happen if we don't let it, but for that we have to be honest with him. Maximus needs help, and he needs you to tell him the truth," he said, and I desperately denied it.

"No, I can't do that..."

"You have to... he's in danger every moment he thinks he has a bond with you, that you wear a real talisman when the truth is you can ruin him," he said flatly, and I felt like crying, like I hadn't cried in centuries.

"I would never hurt him!"

"Randall could force you, in ways you don't even know about, look what happened in the attack! Maximus is weaker than ever. I'm giving you an ultimatum, Ava....and believe me, you'd rather he finds out from you than from me. I'm not going to risk the lives of all the wolves, the land, and the people I love... for a lie."

"You can't do that, Jeremiah..."

"Oh, sure I can. I'm going ahead with or without you. The King has given me carte blanche...think about it. I'll give you a few days, no more," he said, leaving me in my room, almost trembling.

"This can't be happening.... What am I going to do now?"

Ava, the always self-controlled demoness, was on the verge of collapse.

Again I flirted with the idea of running away, of leaving there for good. But what would that achieve?

Suddenly the door opened again and I was on the verge of yelling at Jeremiah or anyone else who came through to leave me alone, but the face that appeared threw me completely off balance.

"Ava?...what's wrong?" doggie said worriedly.

"Nothing, it's just..."

"Are you...crying?" he asked as I wiped away my tears.

"No... I..." I said nervously, I hated to be seen like this, but he just walked over to me and slowly hugged me, and I slowly let him hug me.

We ended up on my bed, he held me, hugged me, stroked my hair while I let out everything I felt.

I didn't know how long it had been before my breathing calmed down and I pulled him close to me and kissed him.

Yes... he made me forget everything, helped me in such a profound way that I couldn't believe it.

"Ava..." he said, still worried.

He wanted to help me, but this was the only way.

"I need you, Duncan..." I said his name for the first time and he responded quickly.

"Then you will have me...always, whatever you need from me..." he said and his hands and mouth were all over my body and I closed my eyes and surrendered to pleasure.
