Werewolf
Sold by my Alpha, bought by my Mate Chapter 123: Let nothing escape me
Jeremiah
"Are you saying that you think you are being watched?"
"Yes, sometimes I feel something strange, like I'm being observed, but there's no one there. Maybe a chill… is weird experience" the young Luna says, and I get worried.
It could be nothing... but I would rather be paranoid than let something slip by.
"We should look for an opportunity when she might be alone with me to see if that happens," the Alpha says.
"Do you think it's them? Randall?" she asks, now frightened, grabbing her mate's arm.
"It's a possibility. Although the bond with him is broken, I don't understand how he could have access to your mind, Luna" I say, but the reality is that we have no certainty of how this works.
After all, she's the first of her kind to have such powers. There was a possibility that the enemy was not being watched, and that was frankly frightening.
"Just stay alert, that's all I ask. We're safe here," I tell them as they head out to see the northern lights. We had had a really positive tour; this outing from the castle had been quite successful.
We had gained several allies, thanks to His Majesty's charisma with the Alphas and the promise of a mate soon, even when his approach to the she-wolves has been... quite cold. And also thanks to the strange divination exercises of the human Luna, as they called her. We wouldn't have gotten anywhere without her.
Every time she visited a pack, she seemed to know something about their past, story; thanks to her dreams. And if it wasn't that... her fame preceded her.
I knew we were taking a big risk. Everyone wanted her, dream about having her in their packs. Asher was close to lose control. I know it.
And while all these new events worried me, I had to admit that we had more to be thankful for. His Majesty had regained his position as king, and I was glad to see him less troubled and stronger. Perhaps he would gradually return to the Maximus I once knew.
Of course, his mood changes when I make comments about finding his mate.
"'You dragged me into this circus, and I did everything you asked for the good of all. How could you don't leave me alone for even a moment about this mate… thing!" he said angrily.
"You know that if you don't choose a mate, the alphas wouldn't believe in you. You would compromise your word and alliances. You have to choose a mate. " I tell him, and I hear him annoyed again.
"I feel good, I feel stronger than ever," he says, and I know it's an exaggeration, though the change in his well-being is surprising.
"You have improved because the wolves support you, because there are people who believe that you really are The King of all Wolves. Without that, you would remain the same," I say.
"And isn't that enough? We have strong allies, the Alpha of Moonstone, River Ash, the packs of the North and the Bridge, even a Luna who sees the future! You know as well as I do, my friend, we've never been in a better position. It will take work and more sacrifices... this war, maybe it can be avoided, but I think we have regained our advantage," he tells me, convinced.
I knew he was tired, and as we acted now, the fact that he saw the rest of the packs and heard more and more about the war made it more and more real. He already knew what was coming, no matter how much he wanted to avoid it.
"We still have demons to fight, and it's an enemy we've never faced before. They're not like Ava," I say, seeing his displeased expression.
"Don't even bring her up..."
"Maximus... you and I both know that she helped even when the situation wasn't the best," I tell him, and obviously he doesn't agree.
"We need to figure out how to destroy these demons. I've been researching, I've been looking for different ways, but I haven't found a solution. Until we do, everything we've done will be in vain, even his talks with other Alphas to find a mate," I tell him.
Sometimes it seems like I'm talking to a teenager, a young boy, and I have to explain basic things to him, when he already knows all of this, knows what the problems and challenges are, knows what we're up against.
"The Luna is strong, but you and I both know that what we're asking of her is too much" he says worried. He has begun to grow fond of the Luna, even if he denied it.
"She will accept, I'm sure. The problem is..."
"Asher, I know. How much time do we have?" he asks.
"My spies says they are calling the alphas, their people" I say and he grunts.
"So... let's do this. As soon as we come back to the castle"
We had a few more packs to visit, and I watched Luna Mildred as she was content with Asher. I saw how everyone looked at her, no matter where we went, everyone seemed to realize that we had someone very special at our side.
What would happen if the enemy takes her away? I didn't want to think about that.
When I was in the woods, I saw the Free Wolves again, I tried to talk to them once, but they managed to slip away. They were there, watching, and I feared that our enemy already knew some of our movements. That's what I would do.
Sometimes I just watched the moon and prayed that it would give us victory, the righteous, those who wanted good for their people.
But I guess no matter how much you predict, the enemy, like us, is looking for an advantage, and I didn't know where it would come from.
I didn't want to do, but I had to. If you deal with demons... you deal with hell.
"I know what you're going to say, Jeremiah...and I agree. I saw it... we must..." the young Luna says before I can speak, but her mate...explodes like a volcano.
And even though I knew how volatile he was, I never anticipated the events that would follow.
