Asher

I had run through the woods, holding my wounds as best I could. The adrenaline from escaping my captors had helped me get away and put some distance between us.

After a few hours, I began to slow down, staying alert and listening to the sounds of the forest to see if they were still after me. Something told me that Ava had probably helped me by making my captors think I had gone somewhere else.

I had a long journey ahead of me, and my wolf was not at one hundred percent. But I drew strength from nowhere, for the bond pulled me desperately, forcing me to continue to reach my mate.

I wanted to keep going through the night, but my body just couldn't take it anymore. This wasn't usual for me; always the big Alpha, the strongest, but now the wolfsbane was taking its toll, and the abuse and punishment from The Renegades made every step I took an ordeal.

I stayed under a tree, trying to stay hidden after I found a small river and cleaned my wounds.

"I need you, buddy. I need you to reappear," I said to my wolf, Cormac.

While I was trapped in the hands of the enemy, I couldn't stop thinking that I wouldn't be able to get out.

I really thought it would be the end for me, and it was even worse when I saw Randall. That bastard wanted to kill me; his expression was happy to find me trapped and in his hands.

I was saved by a small margin, thanks to Ava. I still had to reach the castle, knowing that this was not over. It wouldn't be the last time I saw Ava, the vampire Balthazar or the Renegades.

I slept as much as I could and resumed my journey at dawn. I knew where I had to go to reach the castle, and just the thought of seeing her again made the pain bearable.

I was stepping through the mountains when I heard a noise and was shocked to see some women watching me, as if my efforts to remain unnoticed were a joke. Within seconds, they were pointing spears at me. Damn it!

They were warriors like I had never seen, they looked relentless, and I knew they weren't playing games. They were strong and skilled, I had to admit; I didn't notice them until they were very close.

"Who are you?"

"The questions will be asked by us here, Alpha Asher," said a woman who left no doubt that she was a Luna. She wasn't very tall, but very striking, and her aura was impressive.

"How do you know who I am? Who are you, Luna?" I asked, and she smiled as if she liked that I knew her rank or at least recognized it.

"I am Luna Simone of the Free Wolves and I have been waiting for the opportunity to speak with you, Alpha" she said, very casually, as if she knew she would find me there, as if she knew I had escaped my captors.

"You are with the demons and against the king, aren't you?"

"The Free Wolves are only with us and against those who threaten our way of life and our pack," the woman said.

"So you have no position," I pointed out, and the woman smiled.

"Actually, we have one. We're supporting someone we've been looking for a long time "

"What do you mean?"

"The powerful Luna, the human Luna of the prophecy," she said, and no matter how hard I tried to hide it, I couldn't. I was sure she knew I knew who she was talking about, Millie.

Immediately, the warriors lowered their spears, and it seemed that this conversation was no longer between enemies, though it was unclear to me what the hell was going on.

"Why does she interest you?"

"We understand your doubts, Alpha. After all, she is your mate, and you want to protect her, as is natural. But we don't want to harm her, quite the opposite."

"You don't know anything..." I said, annoyed at the mere mention of wanting my mate.

"The Red Moon prophecy has to do with other packs as well. What the human Luna does in this war will bring many changes, and we have to make sure they are positive for us. If she is allowed to do what she needs to do, we are sure it will be the best for all wolves."

"You mean stop the demons," I said, and it wasn't a question.

I wasn't stupid to deny that her destiny was tied to this war and the welfare of many.

Prophecy or not, my sweet mate held so much power in her hands that it terrified our enemies.

"That means you will you help our side?"

"Perhaps. We can't control everything, but we didn't have to spend too much time with your enemy Alpha or live in the camp with them to realize that their goals and the way they act are wrong."

"They are pigs..." said a woman warrior, and a tall man behind the Luna nodded.

"So you know very well what awaits for all of us if they win," I said.

"We know that what the king has done doesn't favor us and doesn't help the wolves much either," she added, and of course she was right. Maximus hadn't been particularly attentive or concerned about his kind.

"I know," I said, and several of the warriors looked surprised about me admitting that the king was wrong.

"I must say, I had high expectations of you, Alpha, and you have not disappointed," the Luna said, signaling the warriors to bring me water and food, and to apply poultices to my wounds.

I let my defenses down and accepted the help. Hours passed, and I stayed in their small camp while they moved about, and I feel better. When I heard Cormac, I knew it was time.

"Don't take it badly, Luna. I appreciate all your help, but..."

"But you have to get back to your mate," she finished.

"That's right."

"I want to show you something, Alpha," she said, and led me through the mountains.

As I looked down... the battalion before me was huge.

"By the moon goddess..."

"This is just one of the demons' plans. They plan to attack from different points and places. But we will give you an advantage, Alpha," she said.

"What could that be?"

"They will act with fire. You must be prepared to extinguish it. Also, create an escape route in one of the tunnels His Majesty fled through. Moreover, the demons have tasked us with making sure your allies don't get there, but we'll allow passage. Randall will go after your mate and deliver her to the demons. You cannot let that happen," she said, and I became agitated.

"Those bastards..."

"There are other plans we don't know about because they change all the time, and the demons have been secretive. Trust the demon woman" Luna said, and I sighed.

"What should I attack first?" I asked. And she pointed to the end of the forest.

"There is a camp of rogue rebels. They are looking to do some damage, but be careful, Alpha," she said, and I gave her a quick bow, which she seemed to appreciate.

"I have no doubt that the mighty human Luna has chosen wisely. I'll see you around, Big Alpha," she said as I ran off.

My heart was beating desperately, thinking of all the things I had to tell my friends and protect my Luna.
