Mildred

"Finally, it's all over... I can't believe it," I said as we prepared to leave the castle.

We were returning to River Ash, the pack I had spent so little time with, but which felt like home. I had said goodbye to Penelope and Nathaniel, to the other alphas, to Luna Simone, though I was sure we would see each other again very soon.

Even the king, who was so different now, more aware and active in the affairs of the kingdom.

So different from the first time I had seen him! He had treated me badly because I was human and had used me as a bargaining chip.

And yet, you do not go through hell or work as a team with someone to accomplish something that seemed impossible...without feeling united with that person in the end.

The King had helped me understand my power, believed in me when I didn't, made me feel powerful and confident. Just as a king should.

"Luna Mildred," he said, taking my hands and looking at me with his bright green eyes.

"Your Majesty..." I said with a smile.

"I must say the castle will not be the same without you. You have achieved something that has not happened to me in many years: I am surprised. You are an incredible Luna, strong and brave. Furthermore, you never hesitated to join this crazy adventure. And yet I can still see... the good heart of a human who was brought to my castle after being sold and bought. You should never have been put through this, Mildred, and for that I apologize," he said, and I didn't know what to say.

In the last few days we had seen a strong, violent and determined side of him... and he had also shown vulnerability and compassion. Many people in the castle were still surprised when he apologized or said that the vampire was right.

I believed that change was good, and this change in him was everything. Even though my mate said that his violent forays into the kingdom could cause problems. I suppose we would all be there to help him.

"Thank you, Your Majesty, and also for your help... I don't know what I would have done without you."

"You are very kind, Luna. I must admit that many think it is foolish of me to let you go. What more could a king ask for than a very powerful Alpha and Luna? But you both deserve to be happy," he said. I left him, and he stayed to watch the garden beyond the recent graves.

As we prepared to leave, I was happy to see Duncan and Ava holding hands behind us. I still can't believe she's going to be in the pack with us! Being Duncan's mate, who would have thought?

But there was another person who came to say goodbye.

"Jessica? I thought you were coming with us," I said, but she smiled.

"I realized that I could be something else. I always thought my role was to be a Luna or an Alpha's mate, but I want to work and try to be a warrior, to help the kingdom. You taught me that, thank you," she said to me and Ava.

"Then I wish you the best of luck in the world, and you will always be welcome at River Ash," I told her.

"Finally where you should have been..." my mate said, taking my hand, and I finally began to see the landscape of the pack, my pack.

The ladies of the pack house greeted us euphorically. River Ash had also had its little skirmishes with rogues and vampires, but the territory had remained intact, without casualties.

"What a joy to have you back! And let me tell you, we have already begun preparations for the ceremony. There is no time to lose! We need good news!" said one of them, while I was surprised and happy at the same time.

"I don't want anything more in the world," my mate said, giving me a soft kiss.

And as we entered our room, I remembered all the happy moments we had shared here and was very surprised to see it completely decorated with my paintings.

"Asher..."

"And there's more. The Omegas are already preparing one of the nearby rooms so you can dedicate yourself to painting, and beyond that, there is space for you to have your own office."

"My own office?"

"Of course, my love... you are not only a Luna, but a very important one," he said and hugged me. Suddenly, I felt my heart beat faster.

"I was scared, Asher... there were times I thought we would never see each other again," I confessed, and he held me in his arms.

"That is in the past. Now…we don't owe anything to anyone anymore, Millie, all that's left is the best of our lives. Having the ceremony here, continuing our journey together. You're mine, I'm yours... that's all that matters."

The ceremony at River Ash was small and charming, and yet in my heart, that beautiful moment at the castle would always remain.

I remember my mate's beautiful words, my dress, the way we danced, the race the wolves had afterward, and how he came to my room, and we made love for the first time.

This time we dedicated ourselves to talking with the people of the pack and being together. At night, he took me on his horse to see Wolf Mountain.

"Do you remember the hot springs?" he whispered in my ear, holding me close and caressing my dress.

"How could I forget? I felt my body on fire, hotter than the water," I confessed, and he laughed.

"I remember every day we walked here, the horse rides near the river. For me, it was a prelude to what our life together would be. And here we are, my Millie..." he said, his voice full of emotion.

"I never thought this would be my life... I never dreamed of anything so beautiful," I said as he kissed me, and we got off the horse and walked towards the wolf shaped mountain.

"When I painted that image, when I imagined that mountain... not even in my dreams did I think it was real. And even less that you were real, my Alpha," I confessed, and he looked at me with bright eyes.

He still had his little beard, his hair messy after we had made love. I still smelled of him and dreamed of being pregnant.

I wanted our life together to make up for all the horrors of the past, although I knew that all he cared about was having me, he wouldn't pressure me, he just really wanted to see me happy.

"Thank Goddess, thanks for bringing me to you. You have the power to see the future, but believe me… I have dreamed of you, my Millie: and you have surpassed all expectations."
