Werewolf
Sold by my Alpha, bought by my Mate Chapter 78: The key informant
Asher
"Alpha, we need you in the meetings... the pack..." they told me every time they dared to enter my room, even after I had asked not to disturb me.
"My duty is to be here with her," I say, gently stroking her hair. My mate lay on my bed, tucked in very tightly, looking tiny in all the space and incredibly fragile.
"I know, Alpha, but our Luna needs to rest. The doctor already said that, she'll be fine and she'll wake up when it's time," Angelica told me.
They were right, but I didn't want to listen to reason. I felt helpless, I couldn't help her feel better and I couldn't kill that damn asshole Randall, what the hell was I an Alpha for?
"Only I can help her by being here beside her," I replied.
I could see her stirring in her sleep and I knew that was because those strange nightmares were, they hadn't stopped since the moment she was knocked unconscious by that asshole.
They said I was a savage, and sometimes I acted like one, but .... hurting your mate? That was unthinkable for me.
"That is true, but there will be a lot of trouble in the future with the call of the king. I will stay with her," Duncan told me, but no matter how much they insisted, I would never leave her.
"On the contrary, Duncan, I will leave you in charge of the pack for the time being..." I told him, and I would not take no for an answer.
I saw her day and night, tried to give her water and bathed her, caressing her all over, whispering to her how much I loved her and needed her.
"Come back to me, my love... please."
"Big Alpha...we have to go to the castle. The king won't be waiting for us. There are very few Alphas left to get to the Council, and you know Maximus won't wait for us forever." Duncan insisted.
"She needs more time. Being here in my pack will help her, I know this place will give her strength," I say, and the truth is that I believed it, although I don't know if there was any logic to it.
"She was born to be here, this pack belongs to her as much as we do," Cormac told me. He believed it too, and if anything, my wolf knew about his mate.
"We also have another problem..." my beta told me.
"Randall... that bastard."
"We have to see what to do with him. He's back trying to see her, to know about her health..."
"That bastard has no right, he is the one who left her in this condition!" I cried in despair.
"Don't worry. When we get to the castle, I'm sure the king will make a decision, here... is our guest, we can't do anything. Besides, the council just happens with the eclipse..... It seems that none of this is a coincidence," Duncan said.
But frankly, none of it mattered to me. I'd give anything, even the moon, for her not to have to go through any of this.
And finally, on the third night... my mate woke up. I was there, asleep next to her, when I felt her move, and this time it wasn't from the nightmares.
"Mate?" she said in her beautiful voice, and I swear I was almost in tears.
"My love... my sweet Millie... I was so worried," I told her, and suddenly she seemed to realize everything that had happened. I told her what had happened the last few days, and changed the bandage on her head.
"I've been having those strange dreams again," she told me in distress, while I have in my arms.
"With the creatures?"
"Yes, but it was different...because now they weren't following me or talking to me... this time I could see where they were," she explained, and it all seemed really strange. I called Duncan over to listen.
"These creatures are preparing an attack along with other Alphas and other important people I don't know. They are getting organized, and they have a large army, and every day more followers are arriving. It's like a bomb about to explode..." she explained, and she didn't say it out of fear, not even uncertainty. She was completely convinced of what she was saying.
"Against us? They want to attack the king?" Duncan asks.
"They want to end it all, and they know the way to do that is to overthrow the king. Their goal seems to be to change the rules of the game and the world of the wolves. They wish to set up a new system where they dominate, and these creatures want more and more power. They talked about a sacrifice... and Randall is part of it," she explains, and Duncan looks at me in astonishment.
"Are you sure, Luna?"
"Yes, I heard them say his name. I didn't see him exactly, apparently I can't see everything, but he is indeed plotting with them. He wants power, and he will do anything to get it."
"And he'll be more powerful when he has his mate," Duncan says, and it makes me roar.
"He won't let you keep her. There's no way he won't fight for your mate," my Beta tells me through the mindlink. And he's right.
"We'll make sure that doesn't happen," I tell her, trying to calm her down, even though she seems to have accepted everything that's coming.
"I don't understand, before this all seemed like a dream, and now I'm sure it's true," she says, looking into my eyes and I caress her face and give her a kiss on the forehead.
“We will take care of it. But please rest," Duncan says.
"It's literally what Jeremiah knows...I think even he has less information..." my Beta says, holding his head.
"This must be the prophecy, Duncan...she has great power. I wonder if Randall knows about it and that's why he wants her?" my Beta says.
"You said she's never talked to anyone about it."
"No, but I've had dreams, too. It's all very strange. Who's to say he hasn't had them too?" I say and my Beta nods.
"Good point. We have to keep this a secret, only the king and Jeremiah should know. Our Luna is in enough danger as it is," my Beta says. Suddenly we are interrupted by a voice.
"I need to talk to my mate," I turn around, and it's Randall, and once again all the anger stored up inside me comes out.
"You fucker! Did you really think I'd let you near her? Over my dead body!" I say and feel my body shaking with rage.
But I hear another voice, and I'm surprised to see that it's hers.
"I'll talk to you... or rather... your wolf. I'll only talk to Balo," she says, looking at Randall and leaving us all stunned.
