Randall

"Do you see anything?"

"Absolutely nothing...this is undoubtedly the work of the demons," my Beta replied.

We went with the group of Alphas as we had agreed, and although there were several confrontations at the same time, I needed to know what was happening.

It seemed that the demons were not only commanding and planning the strategy, but they had also kept several aspects of the attack secret.

"Those bastards are up to something," Balo whispered in my head. He is right, Those demons… are tricky, I know that.

This had never happened to me before. With the wolves, the Alpha always commented on what was going to happen and what movements we would make. Even in the last war, my brother explained what our strategy would be, as did the allied alphas.

But here and now, we seemed like a group of fools waiting for instructions or orders. It was complete madness and something that had never been heard of before.

"What are we going to do?" one Alpha yelled, everyone were impatient. An Alpha is not used to just wait.

"These demons have us under control..." said an allied Alpha, practically trembling.

I guessed it was the effect of the vampire blood and also the powerlessness of our position, now practically subjugated to these creatures from hell.

"We are Alphas, for heaven's sake! We are not little puppies waiting for orders and being told what to do," said another, angry.

I had also noticed that some Alphas had disappeared with their warriors, their betas, and I hadn't seen them in a long time. I feared that the vampire blood had done something to them. But I suppose is not really my problem.

"If we want to achieve victory and get what the demons promised us, we have to follow their instructions," one beta said, a little more confidently.

We were at the back of the castle, waiting for a signal to go in, when everything in us screamed that we had to act. An Alpha does not wait for orders; an Alpha gives orders. The enemy was there, waiting for us, defending.

"The stakes are high, gentlemen. We must be careful," I said.

"What the hell are we waiting for? They are already attacking in front of the castle with that damn fog where you can see nothing. We have no idea what is happening there, no one is explaining anything!" said another.

I knew exactly what was happening on the other doors. The rogues would come through the forest, though I hadn't heard them or have news about them.

What was left of The Renegades would create distractions for the rest to attack, while the Free Wolves would be on the roads, preventing the king's allied Alphas from arriving and then joining the general battle. We all have a role to play.

And us... we had to take the castle. I knew the demons were interested in recovering their brother to strengthen themselves.

What the other Alphas didn't know was that I had come for my mate, and that my supposed goal was to deliver her to the demons, even though I didn't think I could do it.

I still remembered the visions the demons had shown me, how we had lost or won spectacularly, and how they seemed to know what my plans were.

Ava had come with us and was by my side, just alert to what was coming, she is silent, and I wondered if she would attack what had once been her own people, her friends.

"Would the demon help me get Mildred?" They had developed a special bond. I guess we will see soon.

I also needed her to continue our plans; Could this be the bond with her? Suddenly I'm aware that she is fundamental to my success, that I really rely on her, on her guidance.

Come on Randall! I say to myself. I tried to compose myself and focus on my goal.

I had to stick to my plan, use the demons and wait for my moment. I knew what I had seen and what they had told me, but not a single atom or cell in my body was willing to hand over my mate to these creatures.

"What does Alpha Randall has to say about this?" one alpha ask.

"I say there is already a plan in place, and soon we will receive the order," I said.

Everyone fell silent. I knew I was no longer the fastest or the strongest without vampire blood, but what I was sure of was that my senses were as clear as water.

The castle was heavily guarded, and I knew there would be more warriors behind that wall, willing to give their lives to keep us out. And once I had my mate in my arms... what would I do? I thought about finding Ava and perhaps escape.

Though I wanted to face Asher and finish him off, so he could see me take my mate, then kill him, and his last image would be her in my hands. He had to die so I could mark her.

"Demoness...come with me" the vampire Balthazar appeared and called Ava.

"She has to stay here," I said firmly, and the vampire gave me an evil look.

"The demoness is needed for other plans, Alpha" the vampire said, and it bothered me to be contradicted in front of the others.

I signaled Ivan, to go with her. She didn't say anything, just gave me a knowing look. She couldn't do anything else but do as she was told.

"Don't lose sight of her," I told my Beta. I preferred to lose Ivan, but make sure the demoness carried out her part of our plan.

The fog spread and I heard a cruel battle in the distance, then a terrible screech that made me cover my ears. All I could think was that this had to be to our advantage.

I had to concentrate on the castle now, on my only task. To hell with the demons, Balthazar, all of them.

"Mate is there, man. She's waiting for us, even if she doesn't know it. We are closer than we have ever been," Balo told me.

"Just one step," I said.

"We only have to cross this wall and this door and kill those who stand in our way. I feel stronger, I can handle them, don't doubt it," my wolf said confidently, as if he had been waiting for this moment for a long time.

And suddenly the fog lifted, and I saw a fire spreading like gunpowder at the entrance of the castle we had just watched. I heard shouts and warriors approaching.

"Very well, gentlemen, it seems that this is our signal," I said, smiling.
