Mildred
"Mate, I know this is your decision, but I don't like it. He...he hurt you...if he does it again, if he ever does anything to you," Asher said in fear.
I know I put him in a difficult situation because all his instincts told him that I shouldn't be around Randall.
But I had those nightmares and I knew what was coming. Of course, I didn't know everything that was going to happen, but if Randall was in on it, I knew the only way to prevent it or intervene was through his wolf.
I had seen him in my dreams too, I knew without a doubt that he was a strong wolf and that he loved me, always loved me. I had to intervene to prevent the things I had seen from happening. I only had this one chance.
"You have to trust me, mate. I'm not doing this for him, but for everyone," I replied, and he nodded.
Asher was a tall, scary man, but in his heart was a gentleness and nobility that seemed impossible to find at first glance.
Randall didn't seem very happy with my requests, but it was what it was. So we went into the woods, Asher standing guard, Duncan alert. Randall hid behind a tree, and when he returned, I saw a magnificent creature taking small steps.
"Balo..." I said softly, and I saw his eyes change as I said his name.
I couldn't remember if Randall had told me about his wolf. He always seemed to talk about him, and I had never met him. But it was to this creature of dark, reddish fur that I addressed myself.
"I have longed to meet you," I said.
He was huge, I took more steps towards him to let him know that I didn't hold a grudge, and soon Balo was lying in my arms while I was on the ground stroking his fur. I heard Asher's roar, not liking the scene at all, but I had a duty to perform here.
"I'm sorry we weren't together like we should have been, I'm sorry for everything that happened," I said to him, and even though I couldn't hear what he was saying and didn't have the mindlink, I could somehow understand what he was thinking and feeling. I could see his ears perked up, and his expression was one of pain.
"I know, I know you had nothing to do with what happened, especially in the past, the mistreatment I suffered in Red Moon and everything that came after... it wasn't your fault. I can also imagine that you didn't like it when your human rejected me," he groans in pain.
"I know you feel differently about me, and that you only think of me...and for that alone...I ask for your help," I tell him.
The forest was silent, and it seemed that everyone was listening to us: the trees, the birds, the animals nearby.
"I want you to think of me no matter what happens, no matter what comes. Remember that I don't want any of this, I don't want power or money or the strongest wolf," I tell him, and he tilts his head with a questioning look on his face.
"I just want a quiet life I didn't have. I want a mate who loves and respects me. I want a pack that takes care of me and I take care of them. I want puppies that do good in the world. I want peace, Balo, tranquility and respect for all wolves and humans alike. That's what your mate wants," I tell him, and he listens. He runs his muzzle over my face, sniffing my scent as if to make sure he heard me.
"The time will come, Balo, when you will be the only one who can help me. I wish... we had met in a different situation. But the Moon Goddess wanted it this way, and even if the decision is hard, I know you will make the right one. I know you'll do what's best for everyone" he gives a little yelp, as if he understands me, that his human is out of control.
I stay with him for a while, just there, stroking his fur and letting him sniff me and lick my face. If I could sum up a good experience with my mate...with the first mate I had, it would be this.
"Thank you...thank you for being with me," I say and give him a kiss on his muzzle, and he looks so happy.
He licks my hands and I watch him go, sad, with his head down. And when Randall comes out from behind the tree, I'm already gone. Asher looks annoyed, but he's still by my side. And when I enter his room, I take his hand. It looks huge next to mine.
"Thanks for being there..." I tell him, and he doesn't even look at me. Then he sighs and whispers to me.
"I know what we're in for, I get it, I do...but my wolf is different."
"Is Cormac jealous?" I ask, and he turns to look at me, his gaze intense.
"We're both jealous. Don't ever doubt it, mate..." he says in a deep voice.
"I'm sorry..."
"He keeps screaming in my head that you haven't been with him enough time"
"He's right... he's absolutely right. I promise, we will spend more time together" I tell him, stroking his hand, but I can still see him upset.
"Asher...talk to me."
"We understand...really"
"So, what's going on?" I asks.
"It's just... you smell like him... and I swear..." he says grumpily, wrinkling his nose. .
"Well, I'm going to take a wonderful bath... and maybe tonight... my last night at River Ash...we could sleep together. Maybe you could find me in your bed… when you get back from the meeting," I say tentatively, and he grunts, I see his eyes darken.
"Last day at River Ash... for now. And you'd better put on some pajamas you're not too fond of..." he says in a deep voice, and it sends a chill through my body.
"I don't have any pajamas...just your t-shirts..." I say quietly.
"That's better, much better."
