Werewolf
Sold by my Alpha, bought by my Mate Chapter 136: Among enemies and allies
Asher
"Move, Alpha!" These pale, wild and angry wolves yelled at me, treating me like a prisoner, and I was one. In all my years as Alpha, and in numerous battles, I had never been captured.
But no matter how much I rethought the situation, I couldn't come up with a different solution. I had acted almost instinctively; I couldn't even blame my wolf, it had been both of us. There's nothing a wolf can do but give everything for his mate, I would give everything for her.
I was convinced she would be safe; my friend Jeremiah would take care of her and protect her. Mildred was my mate, but I also knew that without her, we'd have no future, neither my pack nor the rest of the creatures. I did the right thing.
The enemy had yelled at me, kicked me, beaten me, said the most horrible things, and after I had killed several of them, they had tied me up with wolfsbane ropes and dragged me through the forest.
At least I knew they didn't want me dead, otherwise they would have killed me by now. I had defeated several of them and could see the hatred and resentment in their eyes. They need me, they would keep me alive.
I had to hold on to that certainty, that they wanted me alive, but I still didn't know why.
They tied me to a tree and left me there, panting and spitting blood, without food or water. I knew it was only a matter of time before they started questioning me, and the interrogation was anything but pleasant.
"Tell us, where the hell is the king?"
"How did he escape?"
"Where is the human who sees the future?" each question was accompanied by a beating, which I endured without complaint.
"Is that human your wife?" they asked, and I growled, unable to help myself.
"So you're mated to a human bitch..." the warrior said, and when he got close, I headbutted him so hard he fell to the ground, and then they all started hitting me again.
"Talk, Alpha, or we'll kill you right here, are you dumb or what?" they said, pointing a wolfsbane covered knife at my neck. They thought they had me, they are so wrong.
"You said it yourself, I'm an Alpha, so I'm not going to talk to just any warrior. You can't kill me, either, no matter how much you want to. You need me, right?" I replied, speaking for the first time. Although they were visibly angry, they knew I was right.
Wolves have hierarchies, and though the Renegades had unusual practices, I knew they respected the codes among the alphas. That night, they left me there, tied up and bleeding, while I focused on thinking of my mate. She gave me strength.
The next morning, I was already facing the Alpha of this infamous pack. I understood that this operation was very important to them, as the Alpha of the Renegades himself had come here.
"Alpha Asher... the king's favorite Alpha," he said, looking at me with disdain.
He was a tall, pale man, dressed in a leather vest and almost hairless. He had dark eyes and yellow teeth.
"Alpha of the Renegades and friend of demons," I replied, and he snorted.
"Alpha Vikram..." he said, introducing himself. "We haven't had the pleasure of meeting..." he said disdainfully.
"You like to stay away from civilization."
"Do not be fooled, Alpha; we have our own civilization," he explained. And I understood what he meant. They couldn't be around other wolves because they didn't believe in the moon goddess or mates.
"A civilization very different from ours..." I said, and he laughed.
"If you mean that we don't believe in the nonsense of mates, then you're right. And it seems we're quite correct, since you're in this mess precisely because you were protecting your mate, isn't it?"
"And I would do it again," I said, and he laughed, looking at me as if I were a fool.
"We just want a chance to live as we please. The king has cast us aside, hunted us down, and taken our lands," he said.
"If you give up this war, the king will leave you in peace," I said, and he laughed.
"We don't want peace. In fact, we have no problem being at war, but I would like to tell my allies that we have information about the king that will allow us to win" he said, and I struggled against my bonds.
"A human who sees the future, I must say... then I've seen it all. She could be useful to us if we took her, since none of us would get too attached to her. Perhaps we could use her to our advantage," he said.
I began to snarl, sure that was what he wanted, but he had also given me important information, that these men had no loyalties, probably to no one, but certainly not to the demons, I thought.
"We'll have plenty of time to talk, Alpha, before I take you to them, and maybe we can come to an agreement," he said cheerfully, though I knew that was impossible.
"Beat him some more, see if he comes to his senses," he said, and these men took me away again, seemingly happy to deal with me.
"That's for fucking a human, have no shame, Alpha?" they said, punching me in the stomach again and again.
"You could have chosen a she-wolf; you're a disgrace!"
"She'll give you a weak human bastard!" and continued to beat me while I endured.
They had left me exhausted, tied to that tree for a few days until I knew we had visitors. I didn't know if it was the worst news or if something good could come of it.
The vampire Jeremiah had fought, Balthazar arrived, demanding as if he were in charge here, while further back the architect of my misfortune appeared.
Randall.
I knew he was behind all of this, but somehow he had also been spying on us, on me and my mate. I had smelled him outside the house where we were in the previous pack.
I didn't know how he had done it, and the doubt gnawed at my soul, but just the thought that he had seen my mate made me want to tear apart the very tree I was tied to.
The rat looked at me with pleasure, as if my being tied here was the best thing that could happen to him. This situation couldn't help, but I was kind of happy to see his condition.
Oh boy… he looked terrible.
Not only had Randall lost weight and looked weaker, but I could sense that his wolf was completely lost, and I assumed that meant that things were not going very well on the enemy side. But I was even more surprised to see another person with them.
Ava. The demoness looked even more exhausted, and even though she looked at me as if we didn't know each other, I recognized that look.
This was my chance and I had to take it.
