Jeremiah

"Your Majesty, my lord, please listen to me..."

"No, I'm not going to listen to another word you say, Jeremiah..."

"Please, I know it's hard, but..."

"'Hard'? You're talking about the living thing that's been with me the most in my life, long before you. Ava... she would never be against me," he said, and I was more upset than I had ever seen him in my life.

I knew the news I was bringing wasn't good, but I thought he would be more level-headed.

"I never said she would be against you willingly, at least..."

"Enough! Not another word! If you want to stay in the castle, watch your tone and don't say anything more against my dear," he said, and there was no way.

Suddenly he seemed to stagger, and I had to reach out to grab him, but he wouldn't even accept my help.

"Get out of here now, and if you don't want me to throw you out forever, don't mention such rumors again," he said angrily, and called his guards to get me out.

At least the Council was thriving, and Alphas and Betas had arrived from all over the territory. Most had answered our call or sent someone to represent us. And that boded well. The big problem was that His Majesty was not well, and that would draw attention.

His absence was conspicuous, and it was beginning to cause concern.

"Jeremiah..." I heard a loud voice call me, and when I saw my riend, I sighed in relief.

"Asher... blessed are the eyes that see you, thank the Goddess you are back safe and sound," I told him as he hugged me.

"Is the situation that bad? We can't go away for a few days without everything falling apart?" he asked, smiling.

"Something like that. I guess things went well with Miss, you smell like her," I said and his joy was palpable.

"I'm already praying for the eclipse to come so I can mark her," he reply, satisfied.

"Come this way," I say as I looked at Duncan.

"Duncan? Are you coming?"

"Where's Ava?" he asks, very restless, as if he had a desperate need to see her, to be with her. This boy's behavior was becoming stranger and stranger to me....

"I told you, we haven't seen her for a long time," I confessed to him.

"I'm going to look for her..."

"Duncan!" I yelled at him.

"Leave it, we have the same information and we really need to talk," Asher tell me, and within minutes we were on topic, and I hear the most interesting things I had missed.

"Dreamer," I say, repeating the word several times.

"Do you know what that means?"

"It seems to me that I do, though I must admit that it has been years since I've heard of it."

"That is..."

"Centuries ago there were humans, wolves and vampires who had the ability to explore dreams. That power died out over time, especially in wolves, when the true mates ones were no longer found."

"Dreams? I thought they were some kind of visions of the future..."

"Actually, it's more like she can be in two places at once. I mean, when she's sleeping, she can be here, with you, but her mind travels in dreams, a dreamer," I tell him, and he looks quizzical.

"This is getting stranger and stranger..."

"And you say you had those dreams too?" I ask.

"That's right, it wasn't many times, but yes..."

"And Miss says that these creatures used to bother her and that they don't do it anymore?"

"That's right. Her relationship with Randall has also changed drastically," he explained, and I began to understand.

"I think his dreams are connected to you, his mates. The bond with Randall must be broken. It was already weak when he rejected her. But maybe that was the end of it. If there is only the bond with you... she might have some control in her dreams."

"You think?" he asked intrigued.

"I don't know. But Miss must not leave the castle for any reason. I will speak to His Majesty, but even with him... I think we should keep certain details to ourselves. The rite of mate selection and the eclipse, everything, everything must take place here," I add

"Why? What are you not telling me, Jeremiah?" he asked me, worried.

"That these creatures are demons, they may be working with Randall .... and they are gathering various powers to overthrow His Majesty and... he is weak. What Miss saw is true, he is sick and we still don't know what he has..."

"'Damn it! What the hell?" he looks frightened.

"Yeah, and besides, I think Ava is involved in this... unwittingly."

"No, that can't be..." he fidgets more and I put a hand on his shoulder.

"Big Alpha, we all need to work together and protect Miss. Maybe she can give us more information, we have to be very careful with her. You, on the other hand, need to be involved in the council. And at the same time, we can't take our eyes off Randall," I said.

"We have to kill him, get him out of here," Asher shouts.

"That would alert our enemy, it would endanger Miss," I told him.

Now I felt I had all the information that would determine our success or failure in all the trouble that was going on. I spoke with Constantine, giving him only the necessary details, and we set up the first big meeting with our allied Alphas.

"Gentlemen, thank you for being here, we know the call was urgent, but believe me, there was no other choice," the advisor said as I looked at the Alphas present.

Some of them looked at me with disgust because this was an exclusive meeting of alphas and wolves.

"We will always come when His Majesty asks," said one of the older Alphas, Dimitri, who had been among the first to support Maximus.

"We will always stand for the Great King of all wolves...what I don't understand is what this vampire is doing here," said Alpha Maxwell, a young man who seemed to have an opinion on everything.

"I vouch for Jeremiah," Asher said immediately, and then I heard another voice that surprised me.

"And so do I..." and I saw the young Alpha Nathaniel appear, and his aura seemed to outshine everything else.

"Jeremiah has helped us more in the wolf world than many wolves themselves," the young Alpha said as he greeted me.

"Dude...welcome," Asher said to him, pleased.

"I think for the situation we're in, we need everyone's help, and resentment and bickering won't help," Constantine said, looking at the more troubled alphas, including Randall.

"What situation, counselor? It's been two days since I arrived at the castle and I still haven't received any information as to why we were asked to come all this way," Alpha Shum said.

"We haven't seen the king either..." said another problematic Alpha, Jeff.

"It's about new challenges for the wolf world, and also a rampant disease," Constantine said, explaining all the facts.

The meeting went on for hours, but of course it was just a formality. The real meeting, the one I was interested in, would come later.

Finally, I had the Alphas I trusted the most in front of me: Nathaniel, Asher, Dimitri, and Shum.

Between them, I had the alliance I needed.
