Werewolf
Sold by my Alpha, bought by my Mate Chapter 147: A moment of freedom
Ava
"What do you want?" I asked Balthazar as he led me through the battalions, and I could see the thick fog as I witnessed the war and battle boiling in every corner.
And beyond that, the castle loomed like a precious treasure. To think that not only my master but also Duncan would be there. I had never been much of a believer, but I prayed to the Goddess that he would be inside and not outside in this chaos.
"There's a very important task I want you to do, you're one of us, right?"
And as I get closer, it is clear that one of my siblings is creating this, I see their long and bony hands, as if they were a puppeteer pulling strings at their convenience.
They are attacking His Majesty's warriors as they sweep through entire battalions, and there is blood everywhere. My dark heart is twisting, and I have to put on my best face so that no one notices, which makes it all the more painful.
I am amazed to see Jeremiah fighting with strength, attacking wolves and vampires with superior skill, and I think that maybe there is a chance.
"Listen carefully, demoness, we have suffered a small setback in our plans. The women of the Free Wolves were supposed to prevent the King's allied Alphas from passing through the streets, but not only do we see that reinforcements have arrived, but the warriors I sent to speak with them have not returned," he says.
"There must be a misunderstanding," I say, trying not to give the matter any importance.
"There is no mistake, even if I do not like it, I must recognize that these women and this battalion are strong, they have not been defeated. Something is happening."
"What do I have to do with it?"
"They are our allies because you managed to convince them, so find out what happened to them and if there is a problem... put them on the right path," he tells me maliciously.
"Where are they?" I ask, as if I would quickly attack the order.
It was my chance to move freely and act-
"They're on the side of the road," he says, and when I try to move, he grabs my arm and marks my skin.
"If I find out you did anything wrong, demoness... I swear I will personally peel your skin and throw the pieces of your body at the King's feet just before your brothers execute him," he says, whispering.
"What a beautiful image, I will try to keep it as a memory,"
"If I don't see you in a few hours, consider yourself dead..." he joins the fight, while I go down the road to do my part.
I was already dead, I knew it. If not by the hands of my master, then by my brothers, a hybrid, a thirsty vampire, or simply by the weakness of the bond and the distance from my amulet.
Anyway, my days on earth were numbered. But with only a few left, I had to make the most of them.
I began to move as fast as I could with a weak body that I no longer recognized as mine. I knew it was only a matter of time before I would need the amulet nearby. I had to return to Randall at some point, but this time of freedom was all I had left.
"Ava..." a voice suddenly said, and I jumped in surprise to see that it was one of my brothers.
"You..."
"You don't think we would let you go alone, do you? Others may trust you, but we know very well that demons are liars and traitors," he said.
"Are you here to babysit me? Don't you think you're too old for that?"
"Actually, I'm here to give those traitorous she-wolves what they deserve, and if I have to punish you in the process, then it's a win-win," he said, and strangely, being near him gave me a little more strength.
It was the same when they were all together: they were stronger. Maybe I could take advantage of that.
We walked in silence; I knew that the free wolves would appear at any moment, and I had to prepare myself. So I began to speak aloud.
"Stealing power from the Alphas was an interesting move, but useless," I said, hoping to pique his curiosity, but he remained silent.
"Aren't you going to ask me why I say that?" I asked.
"You don't know anything about important things, Avalon," he said.
"Oh, but I do, because I was here on Earth long before you, with a successful bond. That's where you fail."
"We don't have just one bond, we have hundreds of powerful men who have submitted to us," he replied.
"But they are not volunteers, or at least not in the way they should be, and that will eventually hurt them."
"And does that concern you because...?" he asks.
"Because my master wants to kill me for helping you, and if you fall, I'll have to go back to hell," I said.
"We are not going back to hell. If we fall, we'll be destroyed" he said. Of course, they have been banished from Hell, if this doesn't work, it will be their end, which is very positive for everyone.
"And of course it affects you, not only what your supposed master has done, but also what he thinks, even if you try to hide it," he said, and I took advantage of the situation.
"I won't deny it. My master was one of the few who accepted me," I confessed, and he looked at me suspiciously.
"You see, when I arrived from Hell, I was lost in this world; the rest of the creatures felt I was powerful and wanted to take advantage of me. In a short time, I was attacked by vampires and wolves, and at one point I thought I wouldn't survive. And suddenly Maximus appeared. He was already an ancient wolf and had a strength I had never seen before, and he saved my life. I wanted to learn more, and I was with him, and over time I saved his life several times and still continued with him.
"He just wanted to take advantage of your power," he says.
"In reality, I stayed with him because he was the only one who didn't try to steal from me. I think he just felt lonely, there weren't many immortals, so I offered him the amulet and that we share my power," I tell him.
I feel the pain of the distance from my amulet more and more, more and more from my master, it feels like my chest is being squeezed.
With Maximus, I had a different kind of love, based on respect, admiration, mutual help. He was my lord, my master, and I prayed that one day he would forgive me. In contrast, Duncan... I felt him under my skin. I wanted everything with him.
"Well, we have to free him, end his life," he says, and I realize that he had actually been listening to me and was distracted.
The wild wolves are so incredibly quiet, as if they are so in tune with nature that the earth absorbs the sound of their footsteps.
Suddenly, I threw myself to the ground and a heavy metal net fell on the demon near me.
"What the hell is going on?" my brother shouted, and when he saw the warriors in front of him, I heard him scream with rage.
"You traitors!"
