If Mildred was so devastated, I couldn't imagine what Asher must be feeling. The broken heart of an Alpha was something truly dangerous and terribly painful to witness, but I knew he would survive if he knew she was safe and sound, and I would make sure of it.

I felt bad about separating them, but I kept my promise. And I knew it was the best thing to do. We had to survive to reach the castle. Once there, I would send help for Asher.

"Tell me again, what did you see?"

The goddess had been kind, and Luna Mildred had a vision of a path in the mountain. I wasn't familiar with it, but the castle was ancient and had many secrets I didn't know.

"All I saw was that the king went through there and reached some kind of stables, safe and sound with several warriors," she explained.

The stable was old. If that door existed in the mountains, I really didn't have a memory of it.

Maximus was an old wolf, and he had built this castle exactly the way he wanted it, for he was very careful in his domain. It was our best chance, and I trusted that the king would take advantage of it.

"Then we will go there," she looked nervous. The agreement was that we would meet at the castle no matter what.

"The best chance we have of finding your mate is to go there," I told her, and she nodded.

Of course, her heart was still broken and desperate, but the vision had brought excellent news and given her new strength and hope, and me as well.

The path was not extremely complicated, but we had to be prudent. We didn't know if we had escaped the enemy, and they seemed to have very clear instructions on what to do.

If I was right, they didn't have the king or her while I was fighting. Their goals were compromised, which could make our enemy more dangerous.

I helped her up the mountain, feeling her strength waver. The strength of an Alpha and a Luna is closely tied to their bond. Separated, they are incredibly weak. I helped her walk and stayed alert to our surroundings.

"He will come back for Asher, you must have faith," I told her and she nodded, regaining her strength. Just thinking about her mate gave her the force she needed.

"There it is," she said, and I was surprised.

I only saw rocks, but as I approached, I felt a flow of air. Yes, there was an opening and the smell of the king's warriors. They had been careful, but I could still sense it.

What would have happened if she hadn't had the vision? or if I had been alone? Maybe I would have fallen into a trap or taken the long way, I thought in amazement.

The tunnel seemed little used, it must have been for emergencies only, and there was no guard. It was dark, but I held her hand as she limped, and we walked in the darkness, my senses guiding me.

I saw some provisions on the ground, and I was sure that the king had indeed passed through here with his warriors. They seemed to be in a hurry. Maximus must be very worried, I thought.

"I smell the king, and so far no enemies or rogues," I said, and we advanced more slowly while I went ahead to protect them. The closer we got to the heart of the mountain, the more I heard a disturbing noise.

"Catch them!"

"Fight!" I heard, and suddenly I saw weapons and heard gunfire at the other end, at the exit, though she couldn't hear it.

"What's going on?" she asked.

"There's a confrontation coming, Mildred. You need to stay here," I told her.

We were approaching danger, and I had to face it, whether I wanted to or not. I got closer and the noises got louder, almost no one was left in the tunnel, and when the first hybrid appeared, he came at me, and I grabbed him by the neck and crushed him.

"Protect the king at all cost!" I heard warriors shouting ahead, I have the castle in sight, and a confrontation in the middle. There were bodies on the ground and warriors everywhere.

More hybrids arrived, and I grabbed one of the weapons on the ground and started shooting. It didn't kill them, but it slowed them down and weakened them as I fired shot after shot.

I was protecting the entrance, fighting a rogue, when I suddenly heard a scream and saw her behind me. A rogue had approached her, but to my amazement, she had killed with a gun and continued to defend herself bravely.

"An amazing Luna, no doubt," I said, and although I didn't lose sight of her, I concentrated on preventing anymore from reaching us.

The castle warriors defended the king, who seemed close to reaching the gates, while the hybrids and vampires were pushed back.

The castle soldiers' maneuvering and strategy began to pay off, as from where we stood, we could see the enemy retreat and begin to flee.

It seemed they were confident of capturing the Luna and the king in the first charge, and this was just a last option before abandoning the attack. She had gone unnoticed, I thought, our enemies were waiting close to the castle, but the tunnel must be a big surprised for them.

"Hunt them down and finish them off!" I heard Constantine shout, and further back in the castle, more warriors with weapons appeared.

And at the gate, none other than Duncan was giving orders, and when he saw us from afar, he ran towards us with a team.

"By the moon goddess! You don't know how happy I am to see you. I was so afraid for you!" he said, going directly to his Luna, who collapsed in his arms, crying.

"Asher... my Alpha," she said, breaking down.

Her hands were covered in blood, and she was struggling to walk.

"Our Alpha is strong, he will handle everything, especially because he knows you are safe," the Beta said, trying to calm her down and carrying her in his arms.

"Duncan, we survived thanks to Asher buying us time and what you planned at the castle."

"We saw strange movements and decided it was best to be prepared, and when we saw too many wolves in the mountain, we assumed something strange would happen," he explained while the king was already in his quarters being attended to.

It seemed that Asher was the most worrisome casualty at the moment.

"We need to reinforce the castle, bring in more warriors from other packs, and inform all the packs of what has happened," I explained.

"We're already on it, sir," Constantine said.

The castle looked more like a fortress: I saw watchtowers, large weapons at the entrances, piles of ammunition, and armored warriors.

Finally, we were inside, I thought, exhausted. I had fulfilled my promise and this journey had been hard but successful.

Suddenly, we saw the castle doors open, and some soldiers dragged a woman inside. She looked beaten and tired, wearing a warrior's outfit that I didn't recognize, and she looked at us with hope.

"This woman says she has a message for you," the soldiers said, leaving the woman on the ground. She stood up and looked at us anxiously, focusing on Mildred.

"My name... is Jessica, and I have a message from... Ava."
