Werewolf
Sold by my Alpha, bought by my Mate Chapter 133: Desperate escape
Mildred
I thought I had suffered in my life, that the pain of not having a family, of being abused by the pack, and the despair that consumed in Red Moon were the greatest pains.
But I hadn't considered what the mate bond would do. I belonged to Asher, and he was so mine that when I left, I felt my heart break. As if all the air was sucked out of my lungs, as if half of my soul was left behind with him.
I had begged and pleaded with the vampire to please turn back and help him. I knew that together they could defeat the enemy. He hadn't listened to me.
No matter how much I screamed or fought, I had lost him. I could hear him howling, and the pain was driving me mad.
We had been attacked in our car, my mate had fought hard, but those men broke the windows and tried to get in at any cost. I saw them putting their hands through the window, trying to touch and grab me. That's when he rushed out; his wolf couldn't let anyone else hurt me.
"Asher! No!" I yelled as I watched him move away.
"Don't leave the car, mate!" he told me, and all hell broke loose.
What appeared to be hybrids and rogues swarmed around us like rats, attacking from all sides. When I saw some pale wolves running toward Asher, I had a terrible premonition. This all looked more and more like the images that had flashed through my mind.
They were focused on me, fighting to get their hands on me, while the king's warriors protected me and Asher kept our enemies at bay.
When they opened the car, and dragged me out, I screamed desperately and my mate panicked. That was when Jeremiah appeared and defeated my captors.
"Please... Please, I can't be without him," I kept begging, but the vampire seemed determined and took me further into the forest.
I had no idea where we were. The pain in my chest was so great that I lost track of time and space. Even though I heard the screams behind me and knew we were still in danger, my body couldn't process anything else. I felt weak and desperate.
When I woke up, we were in a cave and it was night. The first thing I felt was the pain in my heart again, as if it was determined to consume me. It was completely overwhelming.
"Luna... finally awake," Jeremiah said to me, and I started to cry and groan in pain again.
"Why...?" I asked, unable to finish my sentence.
"I promised the Alpha. He seemed to suspect or fear that something bad would happen. I'm sorry, it was the right thing to do."
"But he... my mate," I said, tears flowing uncontrollably.
He crouched down and looked at my ankle, and I noticed it was injured. It was beginning to swell as he applied tight bandages. I saw that my hands were bandaged as well, as was my elbow.
But none of that hurt as much as the feeling of agony in my chest.
"Your Alpha can handle that and more," he said, as I continued to cry as if I couldn't stop.
"When I met Asher, he was just a boy. His parents had died, and he was desperate, abandoned to the world. The people in the pack loved his family, and he felt a terrible responsibility on his shoulders. Some said he was unstable and worried about his mind" he said, and I felt his cold hands on my foot.
"When I talked to him... something in me told me he would be a truly great and important Alpha. Not just because of his size and strength, but there was a steadiness to his personality that I hadn't seen in other Alphas," he said, thinking about the past.
"You know what made me realize that? The way he spoke about his mate. He had no idea who she was or even if she existed, but this huge Alpha became the kindest, most considerate man in the world when he thought about his mate. About you, Mildred," he said, and now I was crying for a different reason. It hadn't been many hours, and I was already missing him like crazy.
"We fought many battles, I concentrated on learning about human mates and their relationship with wolves... just to help him find you. He killed several men just for speaking ill of humans, for laughing at the possibility of having human mates, including your ex-Alpha, Randall's brother," he said, and I was surprised. I definitely didn't know any of this.
"Of course, he's not exactly proud of it. He just longed to have you, someone to share his pack and his life with, someone to give him peace. And without thinking, he inspired many with his extraordinary quest, including me. I started to trust people and wolves more. So besides the fact that he saved my life and I saved his many times... I couldn't refuse his request. Your mate would give his life a thousand times for you, and I know you would do the same for him, so I had to prevent it," he explained, and I continued to cry.
"We can't leave him there..."
"He will come back to you, I assure you. He won't leave his beloved mate. He just found you" he said.
Sometimes the vampire leave, and I realized that besides hunting, he was also checking to see if we were being followed. I thought I heard screams in the distance, as if he was fighting someone, and when he returned, he was covered in blood.
"I've found surviving soldiers of the king... they're now ahead of us, looking for Maximus. The enemies are also following us. We have to keep moving, Luna," he told me at dawn, I couldn't walk very well, so he carried me.
"We need to climb up there" he pointed, and we move again.
I stopped to drink water and find some fruit. He was always looking out for me, though he stayed quiet, maybe giving me space.
I cried at night, and every step I took felt like I was getting further away from him. The thought of leaving him ate away at my soul.
The next night I couldn't sleep, and when I managed to rest, I woke up agitated.
"Take this," he said, handing me a small herb, and I had no idea what it was, but I accepted it.
I wanted desperately to sleep and dream of him. Now that I thought about it, this was the first time since I met him that we were apart. I needed to know that there was a future where I was in his arms.
Finally, my prayers were answered when I had a small vision. He was fighting these pale men, they were beating him, and he was bleeding. When I wanted to know more, the vision changed.
"No... no, please... I must see him," I said in my sleep, but I only saw the king coming to the castle through a small passage between the mountains.
"We will meet at the castle," a voice told me, and I knew it was my mate.
I will make it, I will get there just for him. I swear I will see him again.
