Werewolf
Sold by my Alpha, bought by my Mate Chapter 137: A silent promise
Asher
"Who do you think you are, coming here and giving orders, imposing yourself on us as if we were your servants?" said Alpha Vikram, completely enraged.
"Alpha, you swore allegiance to the Whisperers, and I understand that if you want to reap the benefits of this alliance, you must learn your place," said the vampire Balthazar, while I listened from afar.
The Renegade warriors seemed to have forgotten about me, and I had to take advantage of the situation as best I could. The fact that there was a confrontation between them worked in my favor; all I thought about was getting out of there and informing the others. Back to my precious mate.
"This is my camp, vampire, and you are not welcome."
"We only came to interrogate the Alpha prisoner, we need him," Randall said, and it was obvious that he wanted to get his hands on me and take advantage of the situation.
"I've already interrogated him, and he hasn't given any important information, but he will break soon," said Vikram.
"We have to take the prisoner," Balthazar pointed out, and the atmosphere seemed heated. They went into a small tent to discuss, while everyone seemed to be in an uproar.
"Alpha... are you okay?" I hear a voice whispering to me from the other side of the tree, and I know exactly who it is.
"I've had better days... And you?" I ask Ava.
"It doesn't matter how I feel," she says. Her voice sounds fragile.
"We know what you've been through. No one holds a grudge against you," I tell her.
"You should. I have done terrible things and will do worse," she says. She's never been one to talk lightly, so it must mean something.
"You still have a chance to fix this," I say, trying to convince her. "A chance to get out of this hell."
"I don't, Alpha. I felt my master break the bond between us, and without him… I have no hope," she says, and I sigh.
"The king is just confused, but I know he cares about you. The pain he feels is because of what he feels for you. You will get through this and return to him," I say.
"I can't, they mustn't suspect of anything," she says dazedly.
"I'm sure sooner or later they'll realize where your true loyalties lie."
"I have no loyalties left!" she says, raising her voice a little, then lowering it. "I am completely broken and beyond repair," her voice sounds desperate.
I can't remember ever having such an intimate conversation with her, but I do remember how much Millie loves Ava.
And my beta, Duncan. He is crazy about this woman, and I know he would never hurt our pack, never make a decision that would hurt us. If he trusts her, I will too.
"I know someone who still believes in you, who would do anything for you," I tell her, and she falls silent, knowing exactly who I'm talking about.
"He shouldn't," is all she says, and suddenly we hear voices approaching.
I'm afraid my chance is slipping away and I haven't accomplished anything. The demoness is not only weak, but I fear she has lost hope.
"Alpha, we're taking the prisoner, whether you like it or not," the vampire shouts, and the renegade warriors don't take it well when their Alpha is spoken to like that.
"Alpha Asher is my prisoner; it was my men who captured him. I don't take orders from vampires. He stays here, period!" says Vikram.
"This man is being used by the Whisperers! Whose side are you on, Vikram?"
Suddenly, Randall punches one of the warriors and the fight begins. I duck as best I can when I hear shots from Wolfsbane, and I see Ava hiding, who must be really weak not to take advantage of the fight.
"Damn vampire!" the Alpha yells as Balthazar massacres his warriors. Randall approaches me and takes his chance. I could almost swear he started all this just to get his hands on me.
"Asher... murderer, I finally have you..." he says, and I count the steps as he approaches, calculating how to attack him.
"This is all you ever wanted, isn't it? To have me disarmed, so I can't defend myself," I ask, and he smiles. There are screams and gunshots behind him, but nothing seems to matter to Randall at the moment.
"It's the only thing I've wanted since you killed my brother, since you tried to take my pack, and finally when you took my mate."
"You lost her, and she made the best decision," I tell him, and he comes to hit me, venting his anger for a moment. He grabs my neck, trying to cut off my breathing.
"You will never have her...no matter how much you watch us," I say, and the smile he gives me is terrifying.
"You know?"
"You're a vulgar voyeur...a poor loser who resigns himself to seeing what he can't have," I say, and his punches get harder.
I'm hitting all his weak spots, but every time he pushes and hits me, my ropes loosen more, though he doesn't realize it. My hands are bleeding, but I will get out of here no matter what.
"Yes, I saw... I saw how you fucked her, saw her naked and how she screamed like a whore every time you penetrated her. And soon I will be the one to have her. Don't doubt it, Asher, I will have her body. She will be mine, and I will make her forget you completely," he says, and with another blow I manage to free one of my hands.
I grab him by the neck; the look of surprise on his face is worth everything and confirms how weak he is.
"I will never let you near her. You had your chance and you lost it. The moon goddess is just giving her a mate who loves her with all his heart after all she's been through, because you!" I yell.
Suddenly I feel a shot graze my hand and let go of Randall. The bastard falls to the ground and I feel someone coming towards me. I'm surprised to see is Ava fighting with me.
She seems to be defending Randall, but in a surprising moment that I don't even understand, my other hand is released, and I see a rock fall to the side.
It was her, I think as I see her hand bleeding. Without thinking, I run while I hear shouts and know that they are surely after me.
"After him! Don't let him get away!" someone shouts as if they're following me. I see a few enemies, which I kill with one blow, until I saw Ava behind me.
"Come with me..." I tell her as I turn around, but she looks at me with a sad and desperate look and points to her wrist.
I remember her amulet; she's trapped and has no hope. She guides me t a place where there's a log long enough to bridge two points, with an abyss below.
"Run, protect them..." she tells me, and I cross the makeshift bridge.
"Ava... come..." I say, holding out my hand, safe in the other side. But I see her struggle to move the log, and it falls apart, rolling into the abyss.
"Promise me you'll protect them...my master, Little thing… the others" she says.
"With my life. And him too..." I say, and she swallows hard and nods, then lets out a terrible scream, and I see her jump into the pit.
"Ava!" I yell, but I hear the footsteps of our enemies and prepare to move on after seeing her fall.
As I continue to run through the forest, this image stays with me. She managed to distract our enemies. I'm free, and my wolf wakes up, giving me the strength I need.
I had asked Jeremiah for a promise and he had kept it, I was sure. And now I would fulfill the silent promise I had made to Ava. I swore that I would find a way to save the demoness as well.
