Werewolf
Sold by my Alpha, bought by my Mate Chapter 59: His disease
Jeremiah
"Tell me what the hell is that black matter that comes out of your companions' hearts when I kill them. Tell me!" I torture one of the rogues we have captured.
I've stabbed him several times and used my incantations, but these creatures seem to resist everything. They just grunt and pant, but give no answer.
"Tell me!" I insist, grabbing one of his fangs and ripping it out. The young rogue writhes in pain and moans in despair, leaving a trail of blood as he cries out and suffers an unfathomable pain.
"How... how could you? No one would dare," he says, crying.
"Of course... because Her Majesty's treaties forbid such mistreatment of wolves, such as taking their fangs. But now you care what His Majesty does or doesn't do, don't you? After you broke into his castle," I say with contempt.
"Tell me what I need to know or I will remove your other fang and you will die as a human, part wolf, part possessed...or whatever they did to you," I say, wiping my hands with a handkerchief.
I had been in a terrible state for days, I didn't even recognize myself. I felt like I was losing my mind, but I had to know what was going on. I was doing unspeakable things... but the world would be worse if these people achieved their goals.
"Demons," he says suddenly, and I turn to look at him.
"What kind of demons?"
"I don't know. You can't see them, they seem weak, but..."
"There are several of them. That's why they're stronger. They must have come from hell, maybe cast out," I add as I pick up the drawing the miss gave me and show it to him.
"Are they something like this?" I ask.
"I think so, but I only saw them once. But I heard them...they whisper," he says.
"No...impossible."
The whisperers. I thought they had disappeared. But demons don't disappear, and these seemed to have grown stronger.
"Then they must be anchored in a human," I say.
"I don't know, that's all I know, I swear... please," the man pleads, and in one swift movement I snap his neck.
"Just like I promised... a quick death."
Ava... she's nowhere to be found, and I doubt she's helping her brothers, but she must know something. I pray to the Goddess that she's not involved in this mess.
Her room is locked, but I open it in one motion and see with horror that there are signs of picking on the other door. The king's room, someone has been here.
I am not usually in these chambers without his permission, but I proceed without further thought. I look through the papers and see that there are several things that seem to have been hastily placed.
But His Majesty is not like that, he is a deeply methodical man. As I move further into the chamber, I find medicine placed near the bed.
“Jeremiah…”
"Your Majesty..." I say softly. He looks worse, paler, his dark hair sticking to his face. I've never seen him like this before.
"What are you doing here, vampire?" he asks, annoyed at my interruption.
"I was looking for clues and I think I found something," I tell him when suddenly he falters and looks like he's going to fall, and within seconds I have him up and on the bed. We are silent and he sighs, looking at the potions near his bed.
This isn't right.
"I'm losing my strength, Jeremiah. Every time I use it, there's less left, like it's finite… Is that the reason why you are here, intruding into my rooms, right?" he confesses to me, because he has no choice. He protected us in the attack... he used his force.
"That can't be, you're one of the first wolves, blessed by our goddess."
"Or maybe our world is weakening, maybe it's the moon, I don't know"
"That's why all the secrecy, all the precautions in the castle. They were coming for you, Your Majesty. You should have told me, I could have helped you, I still can" I tell him, deeply worried.
"We don't know... we don't know anything. I thought I could fix it. I was wrong... and I think you're right, there is only one solution, but I don't want to take it," he tells me, and I know he means looking for a mate. He has always been reluctant to do so, for Maximus a mate is a weakness. He hates the idea.
"You can still have it... you can still find her," I tell him.
"My fated mate? No, my friend. I'm so old that when the goddess created me... she forgot to create a mate for me. She left me alone," he says crestfallen.
"You have to trust me, I can help you, but I need your blessing..." I say and he sighs.
“I have no way of convincing you otherwise anyway. You have a bad habit of not giving up hope....and sticking your nose where it doesn't belong. You've always been like that” his green eyes close and for a moment I think he's asleep.
"You have carte blanche, Jeremiah. Don't let me down. Do what you have to do," he tells me and I run to find Ava.
I find her back in her rooms, and when I walk through the door that leads to Her Majesty's room, she is horrified.
"Little vampire... what the hell? No one use that door, it is forbidding!" she yells furiously, and I kneel down beside her.
"Ava... I need you to tell me about the Whisperers," I say, she looks at me in horror.
"I don't know anything about them," she responds, standing up angrily.
"They must have made a deal, they are helping to overthrow His Majesty. They are joining forces with our enemy, if we don't know anything, they will defeat us."
"You have no proof," she says firmly.
I knew I would meet her resistance, Ava was not an easy person to deal with. But I had to see this through, no matter what it took.
"Miss painted them, they're here, she feels them somehow. Besides, you saw the hearts of our enemies, black and dusty, which is classic for demons who have been banished. Magic, any magic leaves traces. But they aren't weak figures anymore, there are several of them, and they have come together, anchored in this world with someone's help," I tell her while she paces the room trembling.
"These are all your theories... stay away from my master..." she says angrily.
"Ava...if you don't tell me the truth, I will tell Her Majesty myself that you are involved in this," I threaten her.
"How dare you?" she is mad.I didn't want to do it, but I had no other choice.
If there was a way to save our world, I had to find it, but I needed clarity about who our enemies were and what we were up against.
"Then tell me right now, before you're accused of treason."
