Werewolf
Sold by my Alpha, bought by my Mate Chapter 54: My fault
Ava
This was all my fault and there was no forgiveness or solution. The only option was to have the ability to go back in time and prevent this tragedy.
I had been stupid and weak and would never forgive myself.
"Is there no one who can explain this to me? Absolutely no one? How the hell did hundreds of our enemies enter through the door of our home? The very castle that you yourselves claim to protect with such perfection!" My king said, utterly disappointed, as we all stood in silence.
I watched in horror as dead guards were carried away, dozens of men and women, strong warriors, simply crushed by a tide of violence, fangs, and death.
"Master... please... you need to rest," I said, kneeling before him. Not because he demanded anything from me, on the contrary... He did not give me even a simple look of suspicion. All this hurt me in my dark heart.
"I need to be where I need to be, Ava.... since I can't seem to count on anyone. If you hadn't come at the right time..." He said.
I had run to him as soon as I knew what was happening, I could only think of him and found him about to be attacked and finished off his enemies. My master was resting, trusting us.
But that night and the nights before?
I hadn't thought about him, I had enjoyed the Beta and the pleasures his wonderful body could give me. I had forgotten everything, I had lost myself in his arms, forgetting my problems and the real world.
"Your Majesty... we beg for mercy..." the warriors said.
"Master... They did what they could, they gave their lives for you. Our enemies... they were not normal, we could not have known. The trackers have not returned," I explained, trying to save the lives of these people. My king seemed to agree.
"Nor are they coming back..." Jeremiah said, stepping forward.
"Vampire..." my master said with hatred as the vampire knelt before him.
"I disobeyed your orders and went into the areas beyond the castle, far beyond what we had investigated. Please forgive me" he confesses.
"Go on..." Maximus said in a cold voice.
Jeremiah spoke of hordes and battalions of enemies, of plans to scatter us, of rogues and young vampires, of confrontations he had had long before the enemies reached the shore. My king slumped in his seat, overwhelmed.
"Had we moved sooner... we might have succeeded, determined what our enemy was up to. I saw no Alphas, no people of rank.... These people were controlled by... something I could not determine...." Jeremiah confess.
I knew what it was, but I couldn't say.
"Jeremiah... do not burden our king anymore... there was no such thing..." I added, but my king surprises me.
He is right, he always was. We should have gone farther. And now we are forced to, act, to respond... " he said, and I was surprised. He was too weak to do anything, but... what else could we do?
"What Ava says is true, these vampires and rogues are not like we used to, they are more violent, it is as if they are driven by an invisible force, a hand that pushes them to kill and kill, no matter the pain and suffering," he said.
"Examine the hostages," my master said, and I followed Jeremiah.
"Let me help you, I need to know," he nodded.
When we reached the dungeons, the screams of our prisoners could be heard from a distance. The first was a bound rogue rattling his chains.
"Tell me, what was the purpose of this attack? And I'll give you a clean kill," Jeremiah promised, but the rogue said nothing, just laughed.
I kicked him in the ribs and between the legs. He screamed, but continued to shake his chains.
"There will be a new order that is truly for everyone..."
"Whose order is that?" I asked, punching him in the jaw and hearing his bones crack.
"Not this so-called king's..." the rogue replied, spitting blood.
I automatically ripped out the prisoner's heart and threw him to the ground. But it didn't even hit the ground, it immediately turned into smoke, it was a strange goo.
"What the hell is that?" Jeremiah asked.
And again, I knew the answer, my brothers.... although it was something I had never seen before. Demons possessing like this?
"Looks like we have a lot of things to figure out...this is getting more complicated..." he said, making more research while I walked around the castle in despair. For the first time in centuries, I don't know what to do.
"Ava..." I hear his voice and my knees automatically shake, even though I don't want to admit it.
"I've been looking for you... Are you okay?" the man I had spent days locked up with, taking him over and over again, looked at me adoringly.
"No Beta...nothing is okay"
From the moment we left our delightful session and went out into the corridors, it was one war after another. But he... doggie, defended me, protected me... .... even when I didn't need him, he was there.
Worse, we fought perfectly, complementing each other like an Alpha and a Beta, like two experienced warriors. He would let me make the final lunge and attack, he would flank and finish me off. It was just perfect.
And I had him there, still half naked when he left the room, bathed in blood, I could see bite marks of our enemies... and also where my hands had pressed too hard and left a bruise, where my lips had sucked too hard and left little love bites.
It was madness.
"Ava..."
"I'm sorry, I can't right now, I can't!" I cried and left him there.
I had to go back to my master and beg him to let me take care of him.
"I need expeditions all over the territory and beyond! I need our best investigators to examine these bodies! Everyone! I need blood tests and tests! Now! Immediately!" my king shouted in all directions as I watched him grow weaker and weaker.
"I think our enemies have been experimenting" Jeremiah said, releasing the head of one of the rogues, showing that it had particular fangs.
"Hybrids?" I asked in amazement...this was beyond even my brothers' plans.
"It wouldn't be the first time, remember the previous Alpha who tried to overthrow His Majesty... he had vampire blood in his veins. It's a way to be stronger even if little survives," he said.
"Sweet hell..." I mused.
"Even with all that, we don't know how they managed to get in here..." my master shouted and suddenly the doors opened and Asher came in, wounded but determined, dragging someone inside.
"I think I have the answer to that question, Your Majesty..."
Randall... damn rat.
