Sofia's Point of View

My mom and I walked to the dining room. Once we arrived, everyone stopped talking and looked at us. 

"Hello, everyone," my mom said

"Hello," everyone replied. I walked over to sit in my seat next to Ethan and my mom sat between Grandma Mandy and Tammie. 

"Now that everyone is here, let's eat," Ethan said, and we all started making our plates. We made small talk while eating. I noticed that whenever Grandpa Damon spoke to my mom, she answered quickly. It was like she didn't feel comfortable talking to him. 

"How do you like working as a receptionist at the Royal Hospital, Tina?" Grandma Mandy asked. I was shocked when I found out that my mom had put in an application to work at the hospital. I was also a little worried about her working there. My mom hadn't made the best choices and I didn't want her doing something bad there. But something inside of me told me that she was truly trying to change and wouldn't do anything she shouldn't do. Everyone told me I needed to follow my gut, so that is what I did, and she had been doing a great job there," Grandma Mandy said. We had finished dinner and were now eating the cake my mom brought. I didn't miss how everyone sniffed it to make sure it was okay to eat. I didn't blame them, though. She did poison me before, so I also sniffed it. 

"It's nice," My mom said

"Mom is actually doing a great job there. She even got promoted to supervisor of her department recently," I said, and my mom looked at me.

"You know about that?" My mom asked

"Yeah," I replied

"Well, that is amazing, Tina," Stacy said, and my mom looked at her. I was worried that she would say something rude to Stacy, but she didn't.

"Thank you, Stacy," my mom said. It made me happy they were being polite to each other. I knew they were doing it for me.

"This cake is good. Do you mind if I asked how you made it?" Stacy asked my mom. 

"Oh, I didn't make it. I got it from the store," My mom said. 

Are you ready to tell everyone?" Ethan mind linked me

"Yeah, I guess now is a good time," I replied  

"Everyone, Sof and I have something to tell you," Ethan said, and everyone looked at us. Ethan was about to speak again, but I spoke first. 

"I am pregnant with twins," I said. I thought it would be better to just say it. Everyone was looking at us happily.

"I knew it. I am so happy for you. You see, Don. I told you she was pregnant. I knew that was what you were going to tell us," Stacy said

"Really? How did you know?" I asked

"I just had a feeling," Stacy replied

"Congratulations, Princess. I am so happy for you. You are already pregnant with the heir to the throne," My dad said

Everyone was congratulating me. They all looked happy for Ethan and me, everyone except for my mom. She was looking at me with a blank expression and I had no idea what she was thinking. I was used to her speaking her mind loudly. It was weird seeing her being so silent. 

"Um, can I speak to you in private, Sofia," My mom said

"No," Ethan said instantly. I knew he was worried that she would say something to upset me but I really wanted to know what she was thinking.

"It's okay, Ethan. I want to speak to her," I said and Ethan nodded. My mom and I got up to walk out of the room. Everyone was staring at us as we left. 

We walked to my office, and I sat at my desk. "You can have a seat," I said, but my mom didn't sit. She was looking at the pictures I had on the wall. Most of the pictures were of Ethan and me. I had some with Ella, some with my dad and me, some with Stacy, My dad, Jason, and Nick. There were some with Ethan, me, and his parents. I had one picture of all of us. My mom stopped at a picture. It was the only one I had up with, only her and me. 

My mom was dating this really nice man. He was rich, and she seemed happy being with him. He took my mom and me to Kings Island for the weekend, and we had a great time. My mom was in a great mood. I thought he was a good guy. That is, until Monday, when he broke up with my mom. He had a wife and kids. 

"I remember this. I didn't know you still had it," My mom said

"It was the only time you treated me nicely. You treated me like your daughter," I replied truthfully, and my mom sighed.

"You are right. I have been a terrible mom. I want you to know that I am truly sorry. I know I have told you that before, but I really mean it. Ever since I moved here and stopped drinking..."

"You stopped drinking?" I asked, shocked, and my mom looked at me

"Yes, I stopped about a month after moving to the Royal Kingdom. I knew I needed to change if I wanted you to give me a chance," My mom said. I knew she was telling the truth. My mom walked over and sat across from me at my desk. "Sofia, I know you are hesitant to trust me, and I understand why. I have done nothing but hurt you time and time again. I honestly don't think I deserve your forgiveness, but I am going to do everything I can to win it, even if you never give me a chance," My mom said

"I need some time to think about it," I said

"That's understandable. I do have a question. How do you feel about being pregnant?" My mom asked

"I am scared but happy at the same time," I said, and my mom smiled at me. 

"That's a normal reaction. I want you to know that you have nothing to worry about. You are a loving and caring person. You are way different from me, and I know you are going to be a great mom. I am proud of you," my mom said, and I couldn't help the tears that came from my eyes. My mom had never spoken so fondly about me. 

"Thanks for saying that," I said

"You don't have to thank me, Sweetie. It's the truth. We should get back in there. I am sure your mate is worried about you being here alone with me," my mom said, and we left my office. 

I wasn't ready to trust my mom but I felt like we were going in the right direction.
