"I don't want to talk to you right now, Mom," I said. We had just finished training when my mom walked over to me. It had been two days since Ava told me what my mom said to her. I was upset about the things she said to Ava. I thought my mom was changing for the better but it seemed I was wrong.

"Sof, I know you are upset, but please just talk to me," My mom said. Ethan walked over to us, and I looked at him.

"Your mom is right, My Love. You two should take," Ethan and I sighed

"Fine."

"Thanks for going to lunch with me, Sof. I know you are upset but I want you to know that I didn't say any of those things to Ava," My mom said. We were sitting in a diner, waiting for our food to arrive. 

"Why should I believe you? We both know you haven't been the best mom to me and you sent Ava to live with a stranger as a newborn baby. A stranger that abused her. Why should I believe you didn't say those horrible things to her?" I asked. My mom stared at me for a moment before replying

"Look, I know you don't trust me and are upset with me. I know it's hard for you to believe that I didn't say those things to Ava because of our past but I promise I didn't. I have been trying to get to know her but she doesn't want to know me. I think she made all those things up because she is upset with me for giving her up," My mom replied. 

"Do you blame her? I mean, you didn't even think about what the person might do to your own child," I said

"I know and I feel terrible. I wish I could go back and change what I did to the both of you but I can't. I can't change how I was. All I can do is keep trying to be a better mom to you," My mom said

"What about Ava? Don't you want to be a better mom to her as well," I asked

"Yes, if she would let me but she won't. It seems like the only person she wants to get to know is you," My mom said

"Maybe she is afraid to be around you because of the way you have been treating her," I said. I could tell my mom was getting frustrated by her facial expression before she spoke.

"I haven't done anything to her, Sof. I have asked her to spend time with me so many times and every time she says no. I don't know what else to do," my mom said

"So you are just giving up," I asked

"Okay, I get that she doesn't want to get to know me but what about your dad and brothers? Why doesn't she want to get to know them? Whenever anyone else asks if she wants to do something, she says no. But she always wants to hang with you. It''s not normal. It's like she wants to take up all of your time," My mom said. That made me think about what Kate said. She also said that Ava only wants to spend time with me. I stayed silent not knowing what to say.

"Look, sof. I know I was a shitty mom. I know I mistreated you. You didn't have the childhood you deserved. I am trying to change my ways and I know you can see that," My mom said

I knew she was changing for the better. She had gotten a job and stopped drinking and partying. She had been keeping her anger in check which was noticeable at that moment by how calm she was staying while we talked. 

"You have been changing. I noticed the changes. I just don't get why she would say you said those things to her if you didn't," I said

"Look, Sof. I think Ava might be up to something. I have been thinking. She showed up as soon as we found out that Monte' wasn't the leader. I am afraid she is keeping something from us," My mom said

"You think she is working with the ruler?" I asked

"I don't know," my mom replied

"Mom, she is your daughter," I said

"I know that, and I hate thinking like this. But we have to be realistic about the situation. She didn't grow up with us. She grew up with a crazy woman," my mom said

"A crazy woman who abused her," I replied

"How do we know that she was really abused. Yes, she came here with messed up clothes and some bruises but that could have been her plan. "

"So you think Ava intentionally came here like that to make us think she was abused so she could what? Get information or something?" I asked

"It's a possibility," MY mom replied

"I don't believe it," I said

"I know you want to think the best about everyone, but we need to be careful. You need to be careful. If what I believe is true. She could be dangerous."
