The Dawn of the New World Chapter 1445

They would have had to be at least 50-60 kilometers away but their size-

'Too big!' Hao Xuan correctly assumed, 'I can neither fight nor run away in my condition! I should ask Ogostin to let me tag along-'

When his thoughts reached this point it unexpectedly began to make sense. Ogostin came from a race of beings that put a realistic value on everything and were infamous for their greed. So why would such a being not only waste its resources on him but then let him walk away scot-free?

'He wants me to volunteer...he doesn't know my background or who 'enslaved' me so he is being cautious in case I'm someone important. But if I beg to come along, I will even owe him a debt regardless and he can keep using me without spending a single coin...or maybe there is some unknown law that will make me indebted to him so I won't be able to walk away. In that case-'

He took in a deep breath and gave Ogostin a superficial bow, "Then I bid you farewell. If we cross paths again I will surely repay this kindness," before walking off in the direction of the city.

Ogostin who was so very confident just a moment ago was caught off guard.

"W-Wait! You are leaving??"

Hao Xuan looked back at him in confusion, "Of course. As you said I need to get a headstart on the sandworms so it's better I leave now."

"But it's FOUR months away by foot, you understand that right??"

"I do."

"And there is no food or water anywhere!"

"I assumed as much, it is a dessert after all."

"And you are naked! You have nothing to protect yourself with, not even from the elements!"

"Yes, that is also true."

"THEN WHY?! Why would you even attempt- IT MAKES NO SENSE!" utterly perplexed, Ogostin could only yell to let out his bubbling frustration.

Hao Xuan smiled inwardly.

The book had also mentioned that their race could only think logically, almost to a fault. Things had to make sense and anything outside of that flow was beyond their understanding. This allowed them to be great at predicting behaviors, events, and even the future to a great degree but it all depended on their individual comprehension.

The clues on Hao Xuan's body told the story of a hardened warrior who was well-versed and experienced in a number of different ways but in dire need of help.

And logically speaking, if someone fought hard enough to even escape from their master then at the very least they would be willing to ask for help if the circumstances proved to be beyond their control, even if it meant their ego had to take a hit or two.

But Hao Xuan did the opposite. Despite being presented with near-impossible odds to overcome he chose to go down that thorny path. Was he stupid? Was he that ignorant? No.

It made sense for him to see the monsters in the distance and choose not to go towards them so...why?

"Why won't you ask for help?!" he yelled out anxiously.

Hao Xuan, who had only taken a couple of steps forward, paused midstride to look back at him.

"Oh, were you offering to help?"

"Of course! The ship! Why don't you want to go on the ship?!"

He shrugged, "I didn't want to intrude. But if you are kind enough to offer then I won't decline, as long as it's free of charge."

"Damn right it's free of- wait...what?"

The sand dunes began to shift away as a massive landship cut across the white desert at breakneck speed. One second it was a tiny dot on the horizon and the next it was right in front of them.

Its shadow swallowed all of them with ease as Hao Xuan raised his head to gaze at this marvel of ancient magic and sorcery. Sitting at just over 500 meters long it hovered over the sands at a distance of eight meters, which from afar was nothing.

So if one only looked at it from a distance it would seem to be gliding across the sand but it was in fact flying through the air, albeit at a very low altitude. It seemed to be shaped out of a rock and everything else was built on top of it.

Countless sails hung from its many masts that were in turn attached to hundreds of structures protruding from the sides. It was an entire city in and of itself, harboring at least a few tens of thousands of people if not more. (Reference Image posted in discord and Authors notes)

One of the ten doors at the back of the ship slid open to create a pathway up.

"ARE WE READY?? LINE UP FOR ATTENDANCE!" a loud voice came from inside.
