The Dawn of the New World Chapter 1597
Hao Xuan turned towards him with a conflicted gaze, "I didn't mean to do that. It's hard trying to control something without directly touching or even seeing it. I will 'practice' until I can get it right."
But Vlitgar had no words with which to soothe his worries because he was trying to comprehend what had transpired. After a few seconds of contemplation, he made a grasping motion to pull out two much larger rocks from the pile. Each one was the size of a fist.
He placed one down in front and kept the other floating beside him.
"Do it again," he ordered, "Don't hold back."
But unbeknownst to Hao Xuan, he had placed a psychic barrier around the rock so it would be at least 20 times harder to even move it.
But Hao Xuan had no way of knowing that so he obliged without giving it much thought. He sent out the Spiritual Threads and upon finding the rock's shadow he enveloped it from every direction.
The rock trembled, lasting barely a millisecond longer before meeting the same fate as the other three.
Vlitgar hastily turned away before Hao Xuan could see the blood dripping from his nose. The psychic backlash was so abrupt that he had no time to offset it before it ended up rupturing a blood vessel.
Seeing him walk away like that, Hao Xuan thought Vlitgar was angry because he couldn't even move the rocks without destroying them, utterly unaware of the truth.
It had taken Vlitgar many years before he had managed to move a small pebble, let alone turn it into dust which would require his full concentration even now.
Vlitgar wiped the blood off his face before waving his hand to summon a white crystal orb the size of a bowling ball. It seemed to be carved out of marble.
He walked over and gently placed it in front of Hao Xuan before meeting his gaze.
"This time, instead of covering it with your soul power gather all your energy on one side and strike the orb's shadow like you would with your feet."
Hao Xuan immediately closed his eyes and gathered the spiritual threads in one direction. The process was much faster and easier this time but it took a bit longer to find the orb's shadow.
Even though the orb was more than three times the size of the last rock, the impression it created within the Umbral Plane was not even a quarter of it.
He imagined a fist and the spiritual threads took that form behind the veil. He reached out and punched the shadow of the orb with nearly a sixth of his strength, expecting the orb to disintegrate into dust but it shot forward like a cannonball and embedded itself into the wall opposite of them.
Vlitgar nodded his head from the side, "Not bad brother. You lack control not strength so we will start from there."
The other fist-sized rock that was floating beside him landed in Hao Xuan's palm.
"Train with this. Tell me once you have learned to hold it up without crushing it and we will move on to the next step."
The Attainment Chamber reverted to its previous arrangement of an empty room with a mirror but the white orb stayed.
The door opened behind Hao Xuan, "Wait for me outside," Vlitgar gestured with his chin, "I will be right out."
"Alright," Hao Xuan went on his way and the door closed by itself.
Vlitgar opened his palm and made a powerful grasping motion towards the Orb but it slowly rolled over to his feet.
The mirror's surface rippled as a figure appeared on the other side.
The same female voice that belonged to the person named 'Malka' reverberated in the chamber, "What's wrong?"
Vlitgar bent down to physically pick up the orb. He inspected its surface which had cracks running all along the middle.
"Do you remember when you first awakened your arts?" he pensively questioned, unable to pry his gaze away from the orb.
She nodded proudly, "Of course! I had the strongest gift of my generation, no one even came close to my scores within the sanctum from our class."
"Remind me, what was your rank?"
With a puffed-out chest Malka haughtily remarked.
"I was the first mid-class Gamma Rank in a hundred years! After all this time my current rank would be a nearing Alpha class!"
Vlitgar slowly nodded before placing the orb back on the ground.
"Remember this?"
Malka leaned forward to get a better look, almost popping out of the mirror in the process.
"Is that a void-touched moon rock?? Were you testing your powers again?" she asked jokingly but he did not have much of a response.
"Try moving it," Vlitgar said while stepping back, "Use everything you have."
Thinking he just wanted to compare her power to his own she was more than willing to oblige.
"My pleasure. But you shouldn't feel bad just because you can't measure up to me...this is my specialty after all."
She swiped her hand across the mirror and the Orb flew into the wall at over 150 meters per second and shattered into a dozen pieces upon impact.
She let out a deep breath while wiping the sweat from her brow.
"Phew, see that? Even an Alpha rank would have trouble doing that on the first try! But it is a given that I would be able to-"
With a snap of Vlitgar's fingers the mirror vanished from the room, pulling the curtain of silence over them.
After what felt like an eternity he muttered under his breath.
"His was incomparably faster. That much raw power....no being of this plane should be able to contain it..."
