The Dawn of the New World Chapter 1584
It was just a floating eyeball about a meter wide. It didn't even have any other orifices but somehow it was able to speak like any ordinary being.
"Hmph!"
It blinked- or rather winked twice when Lady Yuki could not turn away.
"Whacha lookin' at, HUH? Ain't seen no floaters before? Tsk, all you 'full-bodies' are the same..."
It floated past her in obvious and visible disgust prompting her to apologize again.
"Sorry sir- mam? Er, Mr. Eyeball!"
Just then the smoke entity entered her sights again but this time with some good news.
"Congratulations dear guest! I spoke to my manager and she agreed to offer a one-time 80% discount just for you! With our new skin-removal technology you could be skinless in a matter of minutes!"
"No thank you, I don't want to be...skinless," she told the entity again who simply thought it was a negotiation tactic.
"Hmm, I understand. Let me see what else I can do," it said suggestively before whistling past her.
"Huh? No honestly, I really don't want to be skinless-" she tried to explain but was distracted by the sight of the cat walking deeper into the Night Market.
"Kitty! Wait!" she yelled childishly and for a second the cat looked back at her before continuing onwards.
Lady Yuki ran after it, pushing and forcing her way through all manner of strange and mysterious creatures that were blocking the street.
"Excuse me, coming through. Sorry, sorry, SORRY!"
The cat ran all the way to the end before entering the large building on the right. Lady Yuki didn't hesitate even once before running after it. She burst through the door like a scene from an old western movie but no one noticed her.
The interior was much louder because of the hundreds of people engaged in loud conversation over various odd-looking beverages.
Across the room was a bar manned by a merman with six arms for tentacles who continuously mixed and poured one drink after another.
There were three upper floors which were all full and two more doors behind the bar leading to some other room.
"W-Woah!" she couldn't help but exclaim in wonderment.
The variety of bizarre-looking creatures and entities far exceeded the ordinary human beings like her, so when she actually saw another human she couldn't help but take a closer look at the person.
He was coming down from the second floor.
But her bewilderment was gradually replaced by a mixture of shock and fear when she took note of his appearance. Bronze skin, blue eyes, rather tight-fitting black leather armor, and a brown cape. (Ch 1534)
'It's him!' she exclaimed inwardly, 'That's the person Aunty Vei described!'
She quickly ran towards a corner and ripped a piece from her knee-length dress to cover the bottom half of her face. Once assured that her identity was appropriately concealed by the 'disguise' she continued to carefully monitor him from afar.
Lady Yuki observed with a vested interest as the man exchanged a few simple sentences with the merman behind the bar before walking through one of the two doors behind him.
She waited for nearly a whole minute until the merman was occupied with some other patrons before casually making her way over. She was very careful not to make any drastic movements but as she passed the bar something caught her leg.
She looked down and saw a tentacle wrapped around her ankle. Following it back she came face to face with the merman who now had all his attention on her.
"A new face. Who are you?" he asked suspiciously.
"Oh, haha. I'm just going to the lavatory," Lady Yuki tried to play it off but he was not having it.
"That's the other door," one of the tentacles pointed towards the door on the left that had several signs on and around it explaining its purpose.
"Reveal your mark," he ordered, "All new faces have to!"
"My mark?" she gulped loudly.
How could she show something she didn't have?
"I don't- I'm not feeling very well sir, could you please let me visit the lavatory first."
She tried to free herself but the tentacle did not budge one bit. In fact, it tightened even more while wrapping all the way up to her knee.
"Ow, that hurts!" she winced and almost fell over, "Sir this is extremely i-inappropriate behavior!"
"Show me your mark-AHHH!"
The merman suddenly screamed out in pain as a foot drove into his tentacle. It recoiled before loosening its grip around Lady Yuki's leg, for which she was unprepared for and fell the other way.
But a pair of hands swiftly held her in place while a familiar voice ushered into her ears.
"What the hell are you doing here?!"
'Huh?'
She looked back at the speaker's face which was barely a couple of inches away. His bright green eyes stared into hers, helping her immediately recall their first meeting.
"You- the letter!"
"Shhh!"
"AHHH! My hand! He broke my hand!" the merman continued to scream before falling to the floor writhing in pain.
