The Dawn of the New World Chapter 1478
Princess Yi was both revolted and pleased by his question.
Revolted because he must have been locked up in here for the last week or so to not know what had happened, and pleased because that meant that no one was helping Lady Yukio with the 'celebrations' they had set up.
"You would know if you took some time away from 'cultivation' and ventured outside. A few days ago the night sky was replaced by an iridescent glow that, according to some, is rumored to be created when communing with the Nine- just like in the prophecy."
Prince Xuegang went silent for a brief moment, pacing back and forth while trying to digest the implications of her words.
"No, that's not possible. It was just a fairytale the elders told us. Besides, the so-called 'chosen one' would only appear in times of great unrest, when our enemies would be at our door. Does it feel like that is what is happening right now? We haven't had a war since the last era."
Princess Yi crossed her arms and legs with a disappointed look, "Do you really remember so little about how the prophecies came to be?" shaking her head she continued, "When Mother came to know that something was afoot, she gathered hundreds of seers from across the Abyss to peer into one of the many possible futures. And it was only after four decades of exhausting work that we got a rough idea of what was coming."
This was all news to Prince Xuegang, "Is that how it happened? I always thought someone from the Sanctum told her about it."
"Someone did, but you know how mother is. She never takes anyone on their word, no matter who they are. After she received the news from the Sanctum, she did all that just to confirm the legitimacy of the prophecy."
Princess Yi seemed to know a lot more about the prophecy than anyone else.
"Suffice to say, all of this did not go unnoticed by the other clans. Using their own unique methods, they get their hands on some version of the prophecy- thereby further proving that something was indeed coming. It was a lot of guesswork, costing many thousands of lives but there were a few things that were the same no matter by who or how it was divined."
Prince Xuegang sat down on the bed, completely engrossed in the history lesson he was being given.
"We know that something big is coming- a conflict that will affect all of us whether we participate or not. We do not know who our enemy is or where they will come from but once it's over, the balance of power will shift greatly. We also know that at some point during this tumultuous period, a chosen of the Nine will appear. He is an agent of the Inner Sanctum, of Chaos itself."
"He will journey to the heart of the abyss to bring ruin to the plans of our enemies before they can come to fruition."
Prince Xuegang nodded in agreement, "I knew that part. A few clans have already claimed that the chosen appeared among them, commissioning them as his sword and shield."
Princess Yi scoffed, "As if! What those fools do not know- what indeed no one outside of a few select individuals knows- is that the source of the prophecy is the 'Void Mother' herself."
Prince Xuegang's eyes widened as he jumped to his feet, "WHAT?!"
"It's true," she confirmed, "The other clans are not aware of this information either, that a being close to the Void Mother sent us the prophecy in the first place- directly on her behalf. It was according to this esteemed beings wishes that it was purposefully leaked to the other followers and members of the Sanctum."
"But...why?"
Sadly this was one thing that even Princess Yi was not aware of.
She shook her head, "No one knows- and no one will know. But let me ask you this: Knowing everything that was coming, why do you think mother still sent us out here in the middle of nowhere?"
Prince Xuegang thought about it for a moment and could only come up with one answer.
"She knew the chosen would appear here?"
"Yes, but not just that. There was a second part of the prophecy that no one outside of the Elders knew. 'A blessed daughter of the Song Clan will cross paths with the chosen one, their destinies irrevocably tied together for all of time.' That's why she sent us here in the first place, under the guise of celebrating your marriage."
Understandably, Prince Xuegang's gaze turned suspicious in an instant.
"That...seems a little too good to be true. And even if it is, how do you know that's a good thing? Knowing you, the chances are it means that you will become eternal enemies with him."
Her previously jovial expression immediately turned cold, "Watch your mouth! Mother has been preparing me for this day since I was born. It is only a matter of time before the 'chosen one' makes himself known and when he does, I will have him wrapped around my fingers- just as it was always meant to be."
