The Dawn of the New World Chapter 1516

Bertha gently tapped his shoulder with the back of her hand, receiving a curious raised eyebrow from Song Yi. Hao Xuan stepped aside to make way for her.

Bertha gave them a once over before shaking her head, "My oh my, to what do I owe the pleasure of such esteemed company? Not only Princess Yi herself but so many other young masters and young ladies all in one room. What will the people say?"

This 'collection' of talented youngsters might seem random to Bertha but Hao Xuan knew better. Of these eight, 3 had marks of the Nine on them including Song Yi while the rest were marked by one of the other Old Gods.

All of them being here was obviously no coincidence.

And Hao Xuan being who he was, could sense their marks while keeping his hidden without any effort.

Song Yi tilted her head sideways while flashing a knowing smile at Bertha, "You came quick, huh?"

Bertha snapped her fingers and Rukia walked in with a chair that she placed to the side. After taking the seat Bertha nodded calmly, "If it concerns one of my patrons why wouldn't I be here? So, what's the occasion?"

Song Yi's eyes narrowed but she kept up appearances, "Nothing that concerns you. We're here to chat with little Master Nae Shin," she said while turning towards him, "So, where were we? Oh, right, your hyung! Where is he exactly?"

Nae Shin swallowed a mouthful of saliva and it was so loud that everyone could hear him. His gaze jumped around the room, every so often coming to rest on Hao Xuan's figure- making him heave a heavy sigh.

'So much for acting cool. An undead could tell he is hiding something,' Hao Xuan grumbled inwardly before shaking his head at Nae Shin as a signal.

It seemed everyone was so busy stepping on each other's toes that they had forgotten he was even in the room, which was a good thing for him.

"I-I don't know. Why d-do you ask?" Nae Shin stammered along, "I don't k-know anything."

His response elicited a round of muffled giggles from almost everyone in the room.

Song Yi rolled her eyes, "Stop playing with me little boy, I have better things to do than waste my time with you all day. Where is Tae Shin? I need to talk to someone that knows what's going on."

Nae Shin once again looked at Hao Xuan for guidance so he gave him the go-ahead.

"G-Going on with what? M-Maybe I can help you."

The girl sitting to Song Yi's right giggled before crossing her legs and leaning back.

"Did you hear that? He wants to help his future bride!~ Isn't that just the cutest wittle thing??" she finished in a baby voice making everyone aside from Song Yi and Bertha chortle at her remark.

This girl seemed to be about the same age as Song Yi, in her early twenties from the looks of it. She was quite beautiful despite the pair of gills around her neck and a faint blue hue about her skin.

Hao Xuan could sense the mark of the Deep on her.

Angered by even the faintest implication of such an idea, Song Yi's expression turned ugly FAST as she threw a baleful glare in her direction.

"Why are you trying so hard to piss me off, Kyra? Was the last beating you got not enough?"

Kyra froze mid-laughter before slowly turning to face her.

"I don't remember. Wana try again?" her fingers began to crack and pop while becoming sharper and longer.

The girl sitting to Song Yi's left cleared her throat before softly intervening.

"Please, that's enough you too. We have bigger things to worry about. Let us stay focused."

Both Song Yi and Kyra dropped it at once.

A veil and a headdress covered this mysterious girl, only revealing her enchanting blue eyes. She was the third person in the room to have a mark of the Nine- aside from Song Yi and Kyra.

But Hao Xuan's brow began to furrow when he couldn't identify the mark.

'It's definitely from one of the Nine but I can't tell whom. That's strange...'

This was the first time Hao Xuan came across someone who could hide the origin of their mark from him after coming to the past.

'Either she is significantly more powerful than everyone here or is greatly favoured by her master...whoever it may be. I should keep an eye on her.'

This time she asked a question instead of Song Yi. Her tone was so soft and gentle that no one would be able to get mad at her even if they wanted to.

"Master Nae Shin, this is very important. Something terrible has happened to the city. We are only trying to get to the bottom of it before things get worse, will you not help us?"

But Nae Shin was sweating bullets, fidgeting non-stop as if he were sitting on pins and needles.

"U-Um, you are...?"

"Oh my, where are my manners?" one could tell she was smiling even though only her eyes were visible, "My name is Saira- we have not met before but I am good friends with Lady Yi and Lady Kyra."

Kyra scoffed to herself while muttering under her breath, "Friends is a stretch..."
