The old lady rotated back around, her expression one of incredulity and disbelief- mostly disbelief.

She was sure of it, or at least she used to be. But Princess Hwa's sweet smile disarmed that narrative in one go.

The old lady saw the look in her eyes and knew it was so. She was not capable of lying to begin with and her gifts- or 'curse' as others called it, had never been wrong.

She took a few minutes to come to terms with but in the end they were both on the same page.

Princess Hwa scrunched her brow while thinking it over but gave a confident nod in the end.

The old lady slapped her on the forehead, "Thwack"

Meanwhile, in the master bedroom just one floor above, Lady Yuki was sitting on her bed mindlessly drying her hair when the head maid Isra entered.

"The little princess has returned," she informed Lady Yuki.

"Un."

Lady Yuki barely even registered her presence which made her even more concerned. She walked around the bed to face her.

"My lady, what happened out there? Did someone do anything untoward-"

"No, not what you're thinking," Lady Yuki whispered.

"Then what? You have barely said a word since you returned."

"...."

"I just....don't know where to begin," her thoughts were all over the place, "I met that man, and then someone else on the way back...an old friend from the estate. He said- no, I need to talk to my husband first."

The head maid straightened her back, "A friend from the estate? How is that possible??"

"I don't know, I need to speak to Xuegang oppa as soon as possible!" Lady Yuki repeated.

At the same time the ball had reached its apex within the main hall.

Dozens of figures danced and drank with one another, the young and the powerful, and anyone else that was worth knowing could be found within their drunken ranks.

Princess Yi sat on her throne as the hostess. The seat to her left was empty but the one on the right which belonged to the guest of honor was occupied by Nae Shin.

He was surrounded by several beautiful girls who couldn't get enough of him, giggling and laughing at everything he said.

Just below them were the seats of the other children of the sanctum. One of them was Lady Kyra, who emptied a glass of water on her neck to wet her gills before craning her neck to look at Princess Yi.

"Why the long face? Jealous your man is getting so much attention?" she teased while baring her sharp teeth but Princess Yi could only scoff at the thought.

"Hah! When hell freezes over!" she said while eyeing Nae Shin with obvious disgust.

"Then what's got your panties in a bunch??"

Her words turned Princess Yi's expression even uglier, "Must you always be so crass? And chew with your mouth closed, mer-bitch!"

*Snort*

"Ha, good one. Merrrr-bitch! I'm gonna use that!" she chortled drunkenly while turning away.

Princess Yi ground her teeth in frustration while rubbing her temples.

"I am surrounded by imbeciles and incompetent fools!"
