The Dawn of the New World Chapter 1468
Myriad thoughts racing through his mind, he stared at the signboard mouth agape.
'On the first page it mentioned Ogostin's people and I met him as soon as I woke up. On the second page it mentioned this- something that I needed to know badly and that would help me immensely during my time here. Once COULD have been a coincidence but with the second that's not possible. Could this really mean...'
Hao Xuan looked down at the book in his hand, letting his mind wander. He flipped through the next 30 or so pages but nothing jumped out at him. There were habitats, people, locations, times, and objects mentioned that meant nothing to him right now.
'But why?' he wondered.
After taking everything else into account, there were not that many things the presence of this book could imply, so the options were rather limited. Especially since it was obviously detailing events related to him and him alone.
Which meant:
One - At some point in time in the not-so-distant future, Lord Yami's mentor will meet with Hao Xuan in person and this book will come to exist as a result.
Two - Hao Xuan will write the book himself which will either be discovered by Lord Yami's mentor or passed on to him by a third party.
Three - The book was written by someone else entirely, someone Hao Xuan had yet to cross paths with.
But then the question arose-
'Why pass it on to me? Just to help me? Or make sure I did something- or didn't do something?'
Four - Something unexpected happens and the book is passed down to Hao Xuan through Lord Yami to prevent that from happening...again?
'No no, that does not even make sense,' he shook his head firmly, 'Why not tell me from the start unless keeping me in the dark is-'
Five - The book is a trap. It was created to make sure Hao Xuan followed a certain path within the abyss so he could run into a specific place or person.
'Did Baba Jezda or Maymun plan this from the start? Maybe one of them even duped Lord Yami's mentor into passing the book to me or - the mentor doesn't even exist?! Was Yami lying to me from the beginning?? What did they all say - never trust anyone in the Sanctum! I can't-'
"Hey, it's your turn..." a hand tapped him on the shoulder, bringing Hao Xuan back to reality.
"Huh?"
He turned to the speaker. It was the man from the tailor shop who was reading a book.
"It's my turn already?" Hao Xuan confirmed.
"Of course, it's been an hour since you came in. Go in before he closes the shop, you are the last customer of the night," the man informed him before walking away.
"Oh, thank you," Hao Xuan waved at him as a thank you and he waved back while redirecting his attention to the book in his hand.
'An hour, huh? I need to stop getting lost in my thoughts. People are going to think there is something wrong with me, which isn't exactly wrong. My grasp of time has still not caught up,' he thought to himself while making his way down the stairs.
The man with the book had walked just a few meters when he came to a slow stop. Looking over his shoulder he chuckled before turning into an alley on the left, where two figures were waiting for him.
Both of the figures were pitch black, covered in living shadows from top to bottom. They were obviously using some kind of spell or ability to hide their real identities.
The one on the left had an abnormally large, bulging gut, while the one on the right had arms long enough that they scraped against the ground while he was standing upright.
"What took you so long, Ruslan?! It is past the appointed time!" the one on the right hissed impatiently, even flailing his arms around in protest.
The one on the left smacked him on the back with his enormous hands, "Calm calm, brother Pan. Let us hear what news comrade Ruslan brings us first," he said in a deep but surprisingly friendly voice.
Ruslan finally put the book down and reached into his new robe to take out a pair of glasses.
"My apologies comrade Pan, comrade Ackey. I just ran into an interesting fellow is all."
Ackey, the one with the bulging stomach leaned forward in interest, "Ohh? Who caught your interest? Someone we need to know off??"
Ruslan shook his head nonchalantly, "Not at all, it was no one someone of your stature needs to bother with. Just a slave that carries himself like a free man."
"Hahaha, is that so? Did he remind you of yourself?" Ackey jokingly mentioned but Ruslan did not find it so amusing.
His smile disappeared, which Ackey noticed.
"Oh my, did I cross a line again, comrade Ruslan? Forgive me, human conversation is still very new to me. We did not have many discussions with your kind back home."
