The Dawn of the New World Chapter 1534

"Rat? Hmm, is that...a new kind of demon?" a rather deep voice questioned in a thick accent.

It obviously belonged to a man and the accent with which he spoke reminded Hao Xuan of a native Latin speaker back from Earth.

And upon hearing the solemness in his voice Hao Xuan almost cracked a smile.

"In a way."

"Then, how do you say, these demons must be 'adept' at hiding their presence, yes?"

"They are," Hao Xuan explained, "Hiding just out of sight and running away at the first sign of trouble, never fighting with someone stronger than them- if ever. They also breed fast and infest many places so it is difficult to get rid of them."

"Hnnn, that is one way to live, no? Dishonorable? Sure. But effective in times of war...would you not say?" the person casually inquired.

Hao Xuan rolled his eyes, "Are you going to come down and talk to me face to face or do I have to come up there?"

He chuckled, "Up there, down here, what does it matter?"

But before Hao Xuan could say or do anything the boulder began to shrink until the person that was lying on top was at his eye level.

Hao Xuan took two steps back, putting himself between this man and Che Yun. He was on full alert, not because he recognized this person but because of the aura and the remnant energy that oozed off of him.

It was pure chaos, not even chaos energy that had been refined and could be used to cultivate- but actual clouds of chaos circled around this person.

Hao Xuan's expression turned grim because he knew better than anyone how dangerous someone like this person could be. To be able to birth actual clouds of chaos as if they were nothing, his accomplishments in whatever path he walked on must be otherwordly.

And whatever path that was, it was certainly stained with blood. But for some reason...he did not give off a threatening aura.

"Who are you?" Hao Xuan asked.

The man had deep blue eyes and a brilliant bronze skin. Every inch of his body was covered by the form-fitting black leather armor, revealing only his face. He not only wore a similar head covering to the Djinn but also wore a dark brown cape that draped over his shoulders.

A small dagger was attached to his left hip, which only became visible when the man squatted on top of the boulder to get a better look at him. He had a well-kept bushy beard which unlike Hao Xuan's, did not have any white hair despite his advanced age.

From the looks of it, the man seemed to be in his late forties but was probably much MUCH older in reality.

He looked Hao Xuan up and down with keen interest before answering.

"I am Vlitgar. You are Jin the slave, yes?"

Hao Xuan scoffed inwardly, "Just Jin is fine."

Vlitgar gave an understanding nod, "As you wish, just Jin. I have come to you today to ask about the 'chosen' that has been found. It is said that you 'discovered' this chosen. Is that the truth?"

'Chosen? Why is he asking about that? And why here? He can't be with those arrogant kids of the ancient clans- I can't even sense a mark on him. Is he...one of Maymūn's henchmen?'

"You came all the way out here to ask about that? Why? What do you want with him?"

Vlitgar pretended to think about it for a few seconds before answering.

"That is -how you say- complicated question, just Jin. I will meet this 'chosen' myself when it is time and if he is a pretender then the punishment will be doled out. We want only the truth."

'We? There are more with him?'

Hao Xuan took another step back attempting to discreetly put some distance between them.

"Why does someone who does not even have a mark care about the chosen of the Nine?"

Vlitgar's brow furrowed to the extreme as he stood up in a rage, "Who says I do not have a mark?!"

But he quickly caught himself a moment later, "Ah- my apologies. This language- it is foreign to me. Some of the times it takes time for the words to make sense you see? You were just curious, yes?"

Hao Xuan had almost jumped out of his skin from his sudden outburst so he let out a breath of relief seeing as he composed himself rather quickly.

"Ah- yes. That's what I meant. Are you with the Song Clan perhaps?"

Vlitgar spat in visible disgust.

*Thow*

"Never! Those clans and sects are only a distraction from the great truth! They have strayed from the path, their purity compromised! They do not pray and their hearts are only muddied with idle thoughts!"

Hao Xuan was again relieved upon hearing that.

'So not from any of the clans. Doesn't look like a demon worshipper either. But he is strong, maybe the strongest person I've met after coming back. He also implied that he has a mark but I can't sense it either which means he is high level enough to hide it even from me.'
