They were pushing and pulling trying to force their way through the gap, many of them even holding onto Hao Xuan as if their lives depended on it.

"STEP BACK!" the guards shouted in unison creating a small shockwave, "DO YOU HAVE A DEATH WISH?!"

They began forcing everyone back but Hao Xuan felt a pair of dainty arms wrap around his leg. He looked down to see the face of a small boy looking up at him.

The kid was no older than 11 or 12 at most with a face covered in gunk and filth.

"Please sir, take me with you! I can help, I swear!" he pleaded but a guard overheard and pulled him by the rags he had on.

He brought the kid up to his eye level just to glare at him, "Che Yun, how many times do I have to tell you?! The desert will swallow you whole! You are not strong enough, go back to your sister!"

From the looks of it this wasn't the first time the boy named Che Yun had tried something like this.

"NO! I need to go!" he asserted, "Please! I need the credits!"

Hao Xuan's brow wrinkled as he turned towards Che Yun, 'I have heard this voice before when I broke through the veil. If I remember correctly, he was working in the mines to buy some medicine for a loved one, that must have been his sister.' (CH 1507)

The guard tried to throw the kid back into the crowd but he flipped in mid-air with a startling display of dexterity, twisting his body like a contortionist to land behind Hao Xuan.

"PLEASE! I NEED this, she needs it-" he exclaimed while holding onto Hao Xuan's leg.

The guard's nostrils flared as his patience ran thin. He slammed the spear into the ground to silence him.

"ENOUGH! There is only death for you out there! Are you really going to leave your sister and-"

It was obvious the guard cared a lot about the child but Hao Xuan could empathize with Che Yun on a much deeper level because, after all, he had heard his prayers and felt his desperation as if it were his own.

"It's okay," Hao Xuan cut the guard off, "I needed a helper anyway."

The guard went silent for a moment before turning away while muttering under his breath, "Fine, whatever. What's another grave to dig."

"Follow me," he yelled.

Hao Xuan lightly patted the stupefied boy on his back, feeling his entire ribcage rattle.

'He's just skin and bone...and here I thought I had it rough.'

"You can let go now. Your name was Che Yun?"

The boy nodded robotically, still somewhat in shock that his 'plan' worked.

"Y-Yes...Che Yun...sir you are not lying right? You will really take me with you??" he asked with big puppy dog eyes.

Hao Xuan nodded, "Not sir, Jin. You can call me Mr. Jin from now on, understand? Now let go of my leg before I smack you."

"O-Oh, sorry sir- Mr. Jin!" he pulled away but upon seeing the imprint of his face that was left on Hao Xuan's robe he tried to dust it off but ended up making it worse since his hands were not any cleaner.

"It's fine, let's go," Hao Xuan stopped him before following after the guard.

After a few twists and turns through the haphazardly set up maze of barricades they reached Rufgar. (Ch 1446)

He was standing by the main doors along with a few dozen other people and upon seeing Hao Xuan arrive he gave a nod and ticked on the papers in his hand.

"Good, the last one is here," his heavy voice blared through everyone.

Hao Xuan gave the other people a quick once-over. They were all slaves like him but none of them were weak. In fact, the weakest one was at the Peak of Origin Realm like the guard that had brought him over.

"Finally! I thought this bastard would never come!" a voice came from the front of the line followed by some footsteps as the speaker revealed himself to everyone.

It was a light-skinned old man in his fifties with white hair and a matching beard. He had a strange-looking whip wrapping around his waist like a belt and a blue mark on his chest which meant he was not a slave.

He looked Hao Xuan up and down like a hungry dog, licking his lips in the process.

Hao Xuan couldn't help but reel back from the stench of overflowing bloodlust coming off of him, which made the old man flash a grin.

"Hehe, can we go now boss? We're already behind schedule," he asked Rufgar who nodded in response.

"Sumeet will take you to where you need to be. I need a minute with this one," he finished by gesturing towards Hao Xuan.

Sumeet flinched but didn't let his dissatisfaction show any other way as he laughed without a care in the world.

"Hahaha! Sure boss, take all the time you need! It's not like we're pressed for time or anything, eh? Come you rats!" he cracked his whip against the door to create a small tremor.
