The Dawn of the New World Chapter 1486
"WAIT!" Tae Shin screamed but Hao Xuan was not having it.
'I offer the souls of these mortals to the Nine,' he said a quick prayer and clenched, HARD!
But even without a weapon, hovering on death's door with broken meridians, Tae Shin demonstrated why the 'Shin' clan was feared and respected throughout the abyss.
Sword Ki covered his left hand while it slashed sideways just as his head was blown to bits. Hao Xuan reacted quickly in a bid to sidestep but it still managed to graze his arm, severing it from below the elbow without much effort.
Blood gushed out making him scowl and shake his head, "What sharp sword Qi. I should have taken my own advice and been more careful."
He gripped the area just above the cut to stop the bleeding.
Ryuk awkwardly walked through one of the nearby buildings while looking at the bloodbath, "Ahah, what a terrible mess. Are you going to die now?"
Hao Xuan glared in his general direction, "And whose fault would it be if I did? You could have warned me about that monster."
"I did warn you, as soon as I remembered," he replied nonchalantly while poking the severed arm out of curiosity, "Aren't you going to die now? I thought humans couldn't live if they lost parts of their bodies."
"Not always, and I'm not most people. Bring that over here."
Ryuk carried it over and dropped it at his feet, although from the outside it looked like the arm floated to him by itself.
Hao Xuan wiped off the dust and gravel before swiftly placing it back. He then walked over to Tae Shin's headless corpse and opened his mouth, [Devour]
Tae Shin's body began to crumble, collapsing in on itself before eventually turning into a pile of dust. All his energy was turned into nutrients that began to heal Hao Xuan's body at super speed.
Flakes of burnt skin fell off and new cells bubbled in their place. Tendrils of flesh and ligaments jumped across the severed arm to reconnect it to the body while Hao Xuan threw his head back and absorbed parts of his memory.
Usually there would be a lot more to these memories but since Tae Shin's head was blown to smithereens, only the most recent and freshest events carried over and even those were incomplete and corrupted in some instances.
His vision darkened for a moment as snippets of Tae Shin's last few days flashed by. Some were random and inconsequential but others, others piqued Hao Xuan's interest quite a bit.
Tae Shin had met a mysterious hooded figure twice since arriving at the city, and the last time was just an hour or two ago.
He had tried to find the man's true identity but always came up empty-handed. The man offered him important information free of charge, some related to the 'Song' clan and some about what was to come.
He was going to offer Tae Shin a deal and back him in his race to become the Shin Clan's new successor if he managed to get rid of Nae Shin in time.
*GASP*
Hao Xuan fought to catch his breath when the memories came to an abrupt end. He felt Tae Shin's pain and despair in his last moments, amplified several times over.
"ARGHH!"
Veins popped around Hao Xuan's neck and forehead until he got it under control a few seconds later.
Exhausted and out of breath, he checked his arm which was only half healed which made him glance over at the two corpses of the guards not too far away.
"Damn...it...this one...will hurt..."
*Huek!*
"AAAARGH!"
A few excruciating minutes later Hao Xuan got back on his feet having devoured all three of them. Their memories came together in a confusing mixture at first but then began filling in the gaps the others had left behind.
'The original guards were killed and replaced by this Tae Shin guy not too long ago, with the help of that mysterious figure. That guy is still in the city somewhere, I'm sure we'll run into one another again.'
His injuries had all but healed. Now he only needed to rest for a day or two and let his body recover.
Hao Xuan took one of the black robes belonging to a guard and wore it after dusting it off.
"Hmm?"
There was something in a hidden pocket around his chest. He undid the stitches to take out a small coin purse along with a few other things, making his eyes sparkle.
"Oh right, I forgot about the loot!"
He quickly checked the other two and found some things in both of their robes, especially that of Tae Shin's. There were pieces of broken jewelry and gems scattered in the dust, probably remnants of some treasures that were bonded with his soul and were destroyed when his soul was sacrificed to the Nine for favour.
'Damn, if I knew he had hidden treasures then I would have devoured him whole instead. Maybe some of those treasures would have survived then...' he regretfully thought.
