The Dawn of the New World Chapter 1499

A high-pitched, almost defeaning sound echoed in the distance and carried over on the blistering winds. It was similar to a banshee's howl but a lot more far-reaching.

"Don't say a word. They followed your connection so as long as you don't do anything they won't be able to pinpoint our location," Hao Xuan whispered into Nae Shin's ears.

He only loosened his grip when Nae Shin gave a grim confirmation nod.

He got up and quickly checked the surroundings, poking his head outside the structure to see if he could sense anything.

Liet walked up behind him, questioning in a barely audible whisper.

"What do you see?"

"See? Absolutely nothing. I can barely see my own hands," he revealed, much to Liet's dismay.

"Then what should we do? I don't want to panic but this is really bad. We don't even know what kind of beasts crossed over!"

Hao Xuan pulled his head back and dusted off the ice crystals that were beginning to form on his hair. With a deep breath, he disclosed everything he had figured out so far.

"It's both good and bad. Good because the intense Yin energy passing through the area will hinder them greatly, making it harder for them to track us down. They know our general location but not much else at this point. We COULD just stay here and not make a move, hopefully wait them out."

"When the darkness recedes the Yin energy will be replaced by the Yang energy in a matter of minutes. That sudden change should be enough to forcibly close the connection for the time being. This is the safer option."

Liet paced back and forth for a few seconds before asking for details, "Hmm, I don't know about that, that could be hours. It is feasible but- what's the bad news?"

"Bad news is that these creatures are technically spirits. The longer they stay here the stronger they will become by feeding on the excessive Yin energy that's in the air."

"!!!"

"That's REALLY not good!" Liet was sweating bullets, "I have seen how quickly they evolve. What if they turn into something much worse?!"

"That's where the second option comes in. I can try to find the breach they poured in from, it shouldn't be too far. We can close it and end this before things get out of hand."

"But you can't even see!" Liet exclaimed, "Isn't that a death sentence?!"

But Hao Xuan was surprisingly calm.

"Not really, my spiritual sense is pretty strong. Thanks to the baleful Yin energy obstructing the view so much I would probably have the upper hand as long as I am a little careful. But it could be risky for all of us, especially you," he stressed the last two words as much as he could.

Liet pushed Hao Xuan aside to look out of the same hole he was standing in front of. Upon seeing the torrents of murky smoke-like winds he understood that this was probably the best option.

But just to be sure, he raised his right hand and made a circle with the thumb and forefinger like last time, using it as a lens to look for one of the spirits. And he didn't have to wait long to find it.

It was sitting on the roof of a building some 22 meters away, waiting for something. The appearance was humanoid but it had no discernable features, not even a lower body. It looked to be an entity created from the congealed smoky mass left after a fire, like coal and water filled with smoke. (Reference Image posted in discord)

The entity slowly turned its head to look almost directly in Liet's direction, making him shrink back into the hole like a mouse.

"O-Okay, I'll do it. What do you need from me?" he stutteringly agreed because of the seriousness of the situation, "They are restricted to this place for the time being but if they become strong enough they could escape to the rest of the city. The havoc they would wreak would be unimaginable! We must destroy them before that happens," he firmly stated.

Hao Xuan patted him on the shoulder, "Good man. Once I locate the breach I will physically block it from this side but you will need to close it from the other side too. If I had some extra time to prepare I could go get the items needed to do so but-"

"Say no more," Liet cut him off, "I can handle myself on the other side so closing the breach won't be a problem. The only issue is that when I go over they will definitely be able to find us and by then my body will be completely vulnerable."

"Don't you worry about that," Hao Xuan said while unsheathing a sword, "I won't let anything get in here."
