The Dawn of the New World Chapter 1536
"You are right, brother Jin. These things are beyond our understanding but if you look hard enough there is always a reason" Viltgar confidently proclaimed, "And your past- fighting demons and ending up here of all places? We were meant to run into each other, I can feel it!"
"How do you mean, brother?" Hao Xuan was a little confused by his phrasing, what was he trying to say?
Viltgar responded by taking off the glove on his right hand to reveal an incantation.
"Do you know what this is?" he extended his hand in anticipation.
Hao Xuan examined the incantation closely and began to recognize parts of it after a few seconds.
"This is a mantra created by sacrificing...demons?!"
Viltgar's eyes light up with fireworks.
"You can even tell that?! Brother- My brother, you are no slouch, are you? Only those of us well-versed with the demon kin could recognize this. This only further proves my point!"
"Haha...ha..."
Hao Xuan scratched his head awkwardly, 'He is making too big of a deal out of it.'
Mantras were not easy to come by since they required a strong mind and intense dedication to conjure but they weren't that rare. A mantra could be about anything as long as the person who created it was passionate about the topic.
There were many ways to create a mantra and as long as the person knew the basics they could get started, albeit finishing it was another thing entirely. Mantras were a secondary source of power not relating to the user's internal cultivation, with both offensive and defensive abilities related to the kind of object, place, or creature it was about.
Viltgar's mantra was about suppressing demons, or more specifically about restricting their demonic powers which could be quite varied by their very nature. It used demons to create the mantra so its power could only be replenished by sacrificing more demons to it.
'Judging by the length and complexity of the incantation he must have killed hundreds of demons to make it, including their true bodies. I was right in thinking he isn't some ordinary person,' Hao Xuan's eyes narrowed in contemplation, 'Maybe I shouldn't have revealed the Silent Father's mark. What if he doesn't leave me alone now?'
"S-So, brother you didn't say why you are here," Hao Xuan tried to change the topic and Viltgar gladly took the bait.
"Oof, where to begin?" he began with a deep sigh, "I hate to admit it but we are not doing so well in the war."
Hao Xuan's brow furrowed, "The war? Which war? With whom?"
"The war with the demon kind," Viltgar stated as a matter-of-factly, "I thought you knew."
The answer understandably upset Hao Xuan a fair bit as he anxiously jumped to his feet.
"It's begun?! But- it's not time...it wasn't supposed to happen just yet..."
According to Hao Xuan's calculations, he still had roughly 10-15 years at the very least before the war broke out.
Seeing his reaction Viltgar quickly clarified, "It is not a full-fledged war as you think. Only a few of the most dedicated servants of the Nine saw the danger coming and answered the call to arms," his voice fell along with his expression, "But our ranks run thin...the demons are far more cunning than we gave them credit for...and there is no end to them. I have come here in hopes of turning the tides in our favor."
Hao Xuan let out a breath of relief.
'So they are fighting Maymun's entire army by themselves. And since it hasn't escalated yet then that must mean Maymun hasn't caught on to me either. But why didn't I hear anything about these guys? They outa be helpful.'
If there were potential pawns to be used then Baba Jezda would have surely pulled some strings to make use of them. But since she didn't even tell him about them then it could only mean one thing.
'They must have been eradicated before the war even began. Who are they anyways?' Hao Xuan realized he hadn't even asked about his real identity.
"Brother, you said there are others like you who are fighting the demons. Is there a name you guys go by?"
Viltgar tapped his chest twice before raising his right hand into the air at an angle of 70 degrees, which brought up some hair-raising memories from Earth.
"We are the Timoratus!" he proudly stated, "The true executors of their will- the will of the Nine! We are given the authority, we alone are the favoured and the honoured ones!"
Hao Xuan cringed at the words but even more so at his posture which reminded him of a certain Austrian painter from earth.
"By the will of the Nine, we will cleanse the lands of these demons and every heathen that stood idly by! The time has come to reclaim what is rightfully ours! ALL GLORY TO THE NINE! ALL GLORY-" he shouted while beating his chest like a maniac.
Just as Hao Xuan had taken a step back Viltgar strode over and grabbed him.
"This is your purpose, brother Jin! You were sent here to join the holy war!"
