The Dawn of the New World Chapter 1450
'Lady Yukio...have to remember that name...even Rufgar knew of her so she must be someone pretty high up...'
Hao Xuan put on his most flabbergasted expression, "A heroine?! And you are her servant?? How extraordinary! Brother Luz, I think you and I will be good friends!" he placed a hand around his shoulders, "My name is Jin."
"Oh-okay. My name is Luz Fikarouyamileuajandatumarikalora!" he responded happily. With just a few words all the awkwardness and sense of unease melted away.
"Haha...I think Luz will do just fine, no need to be so formal amongst friends, is there?"
"Sure!"
Luz felt like he was talking to a long-lost family member, a brother from another mother in a way and Hao Xuan could sense this reciprocation.
'Just like that? I guess it makes me seem friendlier in his eyes while catering to his beastial nature. I didn't do anything out of the ordinary so it must have only increased my affinity with him. This should be good, I need to test it out more later...maybe even make it stronger.'
Hao Xuan figured out how to handle the rather simple-minded Luz within minutes and soon they were both walking arm in arm through the bustling city streets like childhood friends while he explained the details.
The first place he took Hao Xuan to was located at the very front of the lower sectors. Not only was the temperature here much higher but the living conditions were also terrible. The 'houses' were more like kennels lining the streets and even stacked on top of one another to make use of every inch of free space.
Each unit was just wide enough to house a single adult human if they cradled their legs. The scent of feces permeated the surroundings as all the old, injured, and weak slaves sat in their filth.
"Not all slaves are the same actually," Luz casually commented, "Depending on their master, their importance to the city and stuff, some slaves live MUCH better lives! All new slaves like you must live here until someone with a blue mark recognizes their value and pulls them out. If not, they must keep staying down here."
"Is that right...will I also stay here?" Hao Xuan ingeniously inquired.
"Of course-" When Luz met Hao Xuan's gaze he felt like he was about to throw his own brother in this filth and that he could not bear, "-not! Of course not, you are friend of Luz! Come we go up," he said loudly and proudly.
Hao Xuan nodded satisfactorily. It might have ended up costing a lot of favor but the results were pretty good.
Luz seemed like a lazy, selfish individual from what Hao Xuan could gather from their brief interaction but because of the Blessing a sense of kinship was created among them that surpassed Luz's inconsiderate nature and made him sympathetic towards him.
They went back to the staircase and continued climbing up for several stories, stopping at a much wider and cleaner area.
In complete contrast to the dirty streets of the lower levels, the paths here were not only wider and paved with stones but the people walking about were also much different.
A good 60% of them were still slaves but they looked much better off than the ones from the lower levels. Not only were these ones stronger, and obviously well-fed, but a few of them even had some cultivation and weren't ordinary mortals.
Most seem to be around the Origin Realm which wasn't too bad, while a rare few were in the spirit realm.
"What do you think, friend Jin?" Luz asked with a puffed-up chest.
"Hmm, very nice, much better than the alternative," Hao Xuan replied trying to act concerned, "But are you sure I can stay here? Mr. Rurfgar said I could only be a fighter without explicit permission so I don't want to put you in a tight spot with him."
"No no, it is no problemo~!" he said shamelessly, "Everyone knows Luz and who he works for so they are nice!"
"Aha, because of Lady Yukio?"
"Yes, exactly! She is-" he was about to go off on a tangent but somehow managed to stop himself when it came to her.
*Cough*Cough*
"Its- We get you a room first, yes?" Luz quickly changed the topic, "Friend Jin, what are you good at?"
"Well, other than fighting and stuff I am also physically strong, much stronger than I look. I can also do pretty well when it comes to handling beasts and whatnot but if you had to ask, I would love to work under a blacksmith or a weaponsmith or something."
Luz played with his whiskers while looking around the many shopfronts, "Hmmm, many choices. We don't have weaponsmith anymore but there is one blacksmith. Only problem is he hates Luz so he will not help if he know you are friend of Luz."
