The Dawn of the New World Chapter 1464
"Part of the city but not at the same time?" perplexed, Hao Xuan repeated.
"What does that mean?"
"Luz don't know!" he snapped back, almost growling at him like an animal, "-But you don't go there, okay?"
Despite the 'Beast Charmer' blessing being in full effect, Luz was still being very aggressive towards him all of a sudden which reminded Hao Xuan that there were clear lines that he could not cross.
Pushing him beyond that point could prove to be detrimental to their relationship since it was based largely on that one ability.
"Yeah of course, I won't I promise," he quickly agreed.
"Good!"
Luz jumped down and stomped out of the alley, huffing and puffing along the way.
'What the hell was that?' Hao Xuan thought to himself incredulously.
He turned around to have one last look at the abandoned Beast Market but froze for a second. There were shadows dancing in the sand! The outlines of their figures were only visible for an instant whenever a strong gust of wind passed by but their footprints remained in the sand even after that.
And that sand was the same golden color as the one that had injured him.
"Huh..."
'Maybe I'll come back later when I'm alone. What a peculiar place.'

Following in Luz's footsteps Hao Xuan came out to a busy street. It wasn't as big or as crowded as the business districts and there were still many patrons and slaves walking by, but the vast majority of the people had blue marks on their chests indicating that they worked for the city in some capacity.
They were all warriors of different cultivation levels, carrying various weapons on their backs as they went about their day moving from one shop to the next.
Outside each of the shops, either stalls or people were situated on the side of the street with their wares out on display for all the pedestrians.
Hao Xuan walked up behind Luz who was standing by a stall looking at some rocks.
"People sell rocks too?"
"Not JUST rocks, minerals!" he exclaimed excitedly.
Hao Xuan let out a breath of relief seeing as Luz wasn't as mad now and continued his line of questioning.
"Minerals? What's the use of selling them one at a time? Wouldn't it be better to get a bunch and then sell to a refinery or something?"
"Because sometimes, if Luz is lucky-" he picked up a yellowish-green rock the size of his face, "-there could be gem inside!" and knocked on it excitedly.
"A gem you say?" suffice it to say Hao Xuan's interest was piqued.
'So it's like gambling? I remember people did this back on earth too,' he scoffed at the idea.
He was lacking in many aspects but that was one of the things his grandfather had taught him as a child, 'Never bet on a gamble.'
His lips curled into a smile as an age-old memory resurfaced in his mind. It was his grandfather berating his second-oldest uncle after he was caught playing cards.
'At what age will you understand? Huh? How many times must I teach you this is bad? The only people who get rich in a gold rush are the ones supplying the shovels!' he would say.
And that was very good advice in its own right, helping Hao Xuan out on several occasions. But it also taught him another thing-
'It's not a gamble if I already know the outcome!'
He peered left and right at the never-ending line of vendors selling all manners of things. From parts of unrecognizable machinery to old pots and plants with no discernable use.
'Interesting...this could help me get some capital to get things started. Let's see if there is a blessing to go along with it.'
And right there on the street, he blinked once to activate the crown of darkness. The sky darkened for just an instant but then everything returned to normal, and no one apart from a handful of people even noticed the change.
The list of blessings quickly updated in front of his eyes as Hao Xuan narrowed down his requirements.
'Something to help gauge the value of objects, something I can use repeatedly and with little to no drawback. Something that-'
From hundreds to a few dozen to then a handful, the list became shorter by the second.
'First-Circle Spell: Identity'
Cost: 10,000 Favour
'Fleeting Blessing: Distinguish'
Cost: 1,000 Favour
'Fleeting blessing? Its a one-time use? I guess for that price it's not too bad but I can't cast spells at the moment without a lot of preparation and I would prefer something permanent. Show me an ability or a passive skill only.'
The list fell to just one entry.
'Eternal Blessing: Midas Touch'
Cost: 2,000,000 Favour
'One, two, three- six?! Six MILLION favour for ONE ability?! Are you out of your damn mind?!'
