The Dawn of the New World Chapter 1491
"You're back?!"
Ryuk's panicked voice interrupted Hao Xuan before he could say anything else.
He phased through some nearby structures, stopping less than a meter away from them.
"What was that? You disappeared and then that light-"
"What light?"
"The huge pillar of light! Didn't you do that?!"
Hao Xuan looked around but couldn't see anything out of the ordinary, making his expression grim.
"How big was this pillar of light? Did anyone else see it??" he urgently inquired.
"I would be surprised if someone didn't. It went through the city and even reached the sky!"
Nae Shin glanced around, "Who are you...talking to?"
"Motherfucker. Get up, hurry!" Hao Xuan forcefully pulled him to his feet.
"W-WHAT ARE YOU DOING?! Let go of me- HYUNG! Where's Hyung?!"
Hao Xuan grabbed him by the shoulders and looked straight into his eyes, "He's dead. He stabbed you through the chest and then I killed him. You only survived because the 'Ancestral Blade' merged with your body. Give it some time, you will remember what happened."
Nae Shin lost all strength in his legs and went limp almost immediately after hearing that.
"That's not...he wouldn't do that to me..."
With a sigh, Hao Xuan threw him over his shoulder like a sack of potatoes while muttering, "Believe what you must but we need to get out of here first. I promised someone I would keep you safe until you could protect yourself again and I intend to keep my word."
Sniffling and crying, Nae Shin could barely stitch together a coherent sentence.
"But- home...I wanna go home...I wanna see ama!"
Hao Xuan took in a deep breath. If this were any other person then he would beat them black and blue to get them in their right senses but Nae Shin was barely 13-14 years of age.
This was probably his first time away from home and it ended in such a terrible way. The shock of getting betrayed by his own brother, let alone being left completely alone afterwards was nothing to scoff at.
But now wasn't the time to pull punches.
"Your brother is dead and both of your guards were killed days ago. I know this is a shock but right now I am the only one who can protect you. If other people found out that the precious son of the Shin Clan was out here without any protection, well, I will leave that up to your imagination. Don't make a fuss," Hao Xuan said in a domineering tone of voice and immediately invoked the Crown of Darkness.
'Hide my presence and cover my tracks. Make it as if I wasn't there. Bless me!'
He went for the cheapest option, using up the four hundred or so favour he had gotten by sacrificing the souls of Tae Shin and the 2 guards.
A stream of thick grey smoke began to pour down from the Crown of Darkness, covering everything in a 30-meter radius.
"Let's go," Hao Xuan gestured for Ryuk to follow him and sprinted off towards the right side, disappearing into the empty streets.
There was a trail of smoke left behind but it quickly settled down not long after.
Less than 30 seconds later several silhouettes flashed in the distance, converging upon the site a moment later.
A young man with an extremely pale countenance stepped forth from the group of five, kneeling to scoop up some of the grey smoke.
There was a heavy greatsword as tall as him strapped to the back covered in bandages. He wore a simple but luxurious green robe that gave him the appearance of nobility, despite the beasty aura he was giving off.
"This was the source," he muttered emotionlessly.
A second person stepped forth, a peerless beauty with long dark hair.
Princess Yi used her feet to move some of the smoke away but there was too much of it.
"What is this thing?"
The young man shook his head, "I do not know."
"Can you track who did this? Any clues would be welcome, Lord Teng Ju," Princess Yi asked as nicely as she was physically capable of but it was an exercise in futility.
Teng Ju placed his hand on the ground and began mumbling something under his breath. The great sword on his back began to rattle while his eyes turned green and orange, the pupils elongating into vertical slits.
He looked around for a few seconds before shaking his head.
"Nothing. The smoke conceals it all. One whiff of his scent would be enough for me to track him through hell, but it is all gone."
Princess Yi let out a sigh of defeat.
"Hmm, I wouldn't have asked for your help if it were that easy. No matter, we will try the old methods then," she said while snapping her fingers.
One of the men standing behind stepped forward, he was covered in all black, even wearing a mask to cover his face.
"Get the list of all notable individuals staying within the city. Take out everyone who was at the party and then find the whereabouts of the others. Report to me when you find anyone unaccounted for."
"Yes, princess," he bowed before turning to leave when she stopped him.
"Make sure to keep a low profile. Mother said that one of the 'Timoratus' might be passing through, we don't want to alarm them. Hopefully they aren't here for us."
