Being this close to the source of the explosion was akin to being thrown in the middle of a sandstorm.

His vision was blocked for the most part but that did not affect his combat ability in any significant way.

Thanks to the spiritual threads he could get a relatively clear picture of what was happening around him. There was a figure standing to his left roughly 15 meters away on top of a boulder.

There were several active magic circles on his body and they were building up energy which meant he was getting ready to attack again.

To the right was supposed to be the mangled corpse of the guard but now he couldn't detect anything. The projectile had hit it head-on and there was nothing left of it- at least nothing that he could pick up from a superficial scan like this.

All he could sense was a 4-meter-deep gaping hole left in its place.

Hao Xuan's expression turned ugly, 'If I was even a second late there would have been nothing left of my head.'

He directed his full attention towards the attacker but not before quickly walling off the tunnel with the help of the spiritual threads so Che Yun wouldn't get needlessly dragged into the fight.

Just as the dust began to settle Hao Xuan lightly pushed against the sand to appear next to the attacker.

The air exploded around his leg as it made contact with the attacker's side, smashing him into the rock formation above the mine.

The entire thing shook back and forth like a sheet of paper. If the earlier explosion wasn't enough then this one would surely send shockwaves in every direction, reminding Hao Xuan of another variable.

He looked at the hole in the ground and then at the cracks in the rock formation.

'Ryuk said there were some kind of desert beasts slumbering underneath the mine. If they haven't woken up already then it's only a matter of time if this keeps up. I need to move things away from here.'

He turned towards the attacker who still hadn't crawled out of the rock formation.

'He can't be dead already...right? I wouldn't be that lucky...'

As he made a fist preparing to attack, a foreign voice floated into his ears with a warning.

'Watch out! Behind you!'

Hao Xuan's ears perked up upon hearing the sound of wind whistling towards him. He instinctively stepped to the side just before a maroon-colored sticky liquid blew up the spot he was standing on.

Immediately after the liquid flew back into the 4-meter-deep hole it had shot out from.

The same voice that had warned him about it cursed from inside the rock formation.

"Ah damn it to shit! It wasn't enough to finish it off!"

The rocks fell around him as the man pushed his way out. Half of his face was covered in blood but it was his sparkling crimson eyes that caught Hao Xuan's attention- along with chains and the mark of a slave on his chest.

He looked rather young at no more than twenty-five holding the appearance of a traditional human male with pitch-black hair.

But even now there were two red magic circles rotating around his wrists in opposite directions.

After spitting out the blood from his mouth he scowled at Hao Xuan, "Hell of a way to thank someone, fuck face!"

Hao Xuan's brow furrowed, "Why would I thank you for trying to kill me?"

He scoffed while pointing at himself with both hands, "If I- the Great Gudmunder- wanted you dead? You WOULD BE DEAD!!" he roared.

"Not only do you not thank me- your savior- but you even tried to kill me right after! A lesser man than I would take this personally!"

The ground shook as another tremor rattled the mine and everything around it.

Both Gudmunder and Hao Xuan turned towards the hole that was making gurgling sounds and was the source of this tremor.

"You came from the city?" Hao Xuan asked without looking away from the hole.

"Where else would I come from? The fucking sky?!" Gudmunder kindly responded.

"Why did you attack me earlier?"

"I DIDN'T!" Gudmunder exclaimed, "I was aiming for that thing!" he said pointing at the hole.

"What is it? Where did it come from?"

"It's a demonic infestation of the flesh. It came from the outside and you let it in."

"...."

Hao Xuan didn't answer so he followed with- "Don't worry you're not alone, at least you didn't let it fool you like the others."

"The others?" Hao Xuan gave him a side eye, "There are more of them?"

Gudmunder nodded with a somber expression, "There were three others. I killed two and the guards imprisoned the last one. But none of them were as strong as this one here."

His head began to tilt sideways in confusion as he kept talking.

"But logically speaking, the strongest one should have gone where the biggest collection of lifeforce was- why did it come here where there are only two people? Well, I say that but I know why after that kick."
