The Dawn of the New World Chapter 1475
He stumbled back into a random passerby who almost fell over were it not for Hao Xuan's quick acting.
"I'm sorr-"
He tried to apologize to the maiden hiding behind the heavy cloak but got distracted by the stirring of his mark.
The Crown of Darkness was reacting to her presence, like two complete strangers realizing they had something important in common. Only, she didn't seem to have noticed much.
But Hao Xuan did not have the time to delve deeper into the matter since the goat-man was with several others of his kind and they had already surrounded him.
Their ill intentions were clear to everybody on the street but no one would intervene.
"Why you in such a hurry, boy?" the goat-man sauntered over with wide strides, "You runnin' from someone? What'd you do, steal?" he looked him up and down in excruciating detail.
His eyes glittered upon seeing the brand new sword in Hao Xuan's hand, "That's an awfully nice blade you got there. Give it here, I'll return it to its rightful owner."
Hao Xuan exhaled and turned on his heels, moving faster than any of the goat demihumans could react. One quick palm thrust to the chin was enough to knock him out cold.
His body went limp right before he fell to his knees with a vacant look.
"!!!"
"WHAT DID YOU-"
Several of his followers came out in unison but Hao Xuan was not in the mood.
"SHHHH!" a venomous hiss escaped his lips.
He glared at them with raw animosity, his Lycan blood pumping fiercely through the veins in anticipation of the hunt. His eyes glowed brighter while his unkempt hair seemed to have come alive.
"Quiet down," he muttered in a low guttural voice and they could only oblige, freezing on the spot.
Their bodies were barely under their control anymore. It was more primal than intentional- something built into their animal DNA.
They were standing across from an apex predator and the only solution was to play dead.
Hao Xuan craned his neck to look for the creature he was chasing but could not find it anymore.
He turned to the petrified goat-men with an ugly expression, "If I lose my target, I will come back and skin you alive one by one," -threw out the threats before running in the direction it was headed in.
He came and went with the wind, disappearing before anyone had the time to interject.
The crowd watched the scared goatmen for a few seconds before most of the people lost interest, going about their business as if nothing had happened.
The few that remained now mocked them instead, "Heh, is that all you had? Getting beat up by a slave?"
"Hahaha, maybe you should hand over everything you have to us, you know, since he will come back and kill you anyway. What do you say?"
One of them even went up to the maiden Hao Xuan had stumbled into.
"Girlie, did you lose your marbles? What are you staring at? Want big brother to help you? Come on, if you ask nicely I can show you how to really pleasure a c-" he pulled the hood off her head and immediately jumped back in shock.
Gasps of astonishment echoed all around as the crowd laid witness to the intricate design tattooed on her forehead- right between the eyebrows. It looked like a three-pronged claw of some beast.
The man who had pulled the hood off fell to his knees at once, repeatedly smashing his head against the dirty street to the point of drawing blood.
"LADY SONG! P-Princess! Please forgive my impudence, I have sinned greatly!"
The 'princess' he was talking to was beautiful to an unprecedented degree, and yet, no one dared to look directly at her. They all lowered their heads in fear.
Just the name of her clan was enough to send shivers down their spines, let alone her presence. But despite the atmosphere taking such a huge turn, she did not seem bothered whatsoever.
She snapped her fingers and a man walked out from her shadow, his face covered by a horrific mask.
"Princess," he got down on one knee.
Her voice was loud and clear, gentle but still forceful, "Did you find the source?"
He shook his head, "I did not. But there was some disturbance nearby, we are following it up."
"Hmm. You may go," she waved her hand to release him.
And as quickly as he had appeared, his figure submerged within her shadow and vanished without a trace.
She sighed lightly, "Slaves these days are quite rowdy, are they not?"
The man who was fearing for his life a moment ago slowly raised his head, flashing a toothy smile in agreement.
"Y-Yes princess! I was only trying to teach these wastrels a lesson. Do you want me to go fetch you that slave's head? Just say the word!" he merrily jumped to his feet thinking that's what she wanted but-
*Squelch*
-the moment his back straightened all the way, four energy constructs in the shape of heavy swords materialized around him, severing his limbs away.
"AAAAAH-"
*Squelch*
Before he could even let out a full scream his head was also chopped off.
