Luz swiftly moved behind Hao Xuan to use him as a meatshield.

"LUZ WAS FORCED TO!" he yelled, garnering the attention of some of the patrons who stood by the main entrance of the Inn.

Bertha unsheathed her saber and pointed it straight towards Hao Xuan's heart, "Explain yourself!"

"R-Rufgar! I was just going about my business and he forced me to take this human to get settled! He said he was really useful and you could use his help!" he shouted from behind Hao Xuan.

And only after hearing all that did she even register his presence. The edge of her saber moved upwards, resting at the base of his neck.

"A human?? Rufgar sent me a human? Why? Who is your master, slave?"

Hao Xuan coldly glanced at the saber's tip that was about to pierce his skin, "Lower the weapon and ask that question again with a little more respect," he demanded.

Her already wrathful expression became even uglier as she thrust the saber forward without any hesitation. But Hao Xuan was ready, he had in fact wanted this outcome.

Mustering all his strength in one explosive move, he sidestepped to the left before smacking her hand lightly. Time slowed to a crawl as the saber flew out of her grasp and landed cleanly in his hand.

With one more move, he was standing next to her with the saber digging into her neck.

"Khuk!"

Everything unfolded in the blink of an eye and by the time she realized what had happened, it was too late already.

"Should I show you the same courtesy you showed me?" he said growling into her ear.

*Gulp*

She swallowed a mouthful of saliva and let out a deep breath, not worried one bit.

"Killing a citizen will only result in the death penalty for a slave such as you, no matter who your master is. If you are confident enough to be able to make it out of here alive then...go ahead."

Her tone of voice was perfect and if Hao Xuan wasn't so close to her he would have believed her too. But right now he could feel her heart about to burst out of her chest. She might be acting cool but that was not the case on the inside.

He smiled, "But I only defended myself, as I'm sure many of those patrons would be willing to testify," he grabbed her waist to turn her towards the entrance where a crowd was forming.

"-You are the one who pulled a weapon on me and Brother Luz here."

She took one look at the crowd and changed her tone in an instant.

"Okay okay, it was my bad. Lower the blade and follow me in through the back before they recognize me! Quickly!"

'She values her reputation more than her life, what an ignorant woman,' Hao Xuan thought.

"As you wish, but I am keeping the blade until I am sure you won't try to attack me again."

"Do what you want but move into the alley first!" she pushed him into the side street and grabbed Luz by the collar before rushing in herself.

By the time some of the patrons came over to get a better look, the alley was already clear.

Somewhere in the back of the inn Bertha closed a hidden door and locked it behind them.

"T-That was a close one," Luz muttered while taking a seat nearby on some produce.

They were in some kind of a storage room with bags of grain and barrels of liquor stacked up to the ceiling.

Bertha leaned against the hidden door, "Your slave almost got me in trouble!" she muttered through gritted teeth, glaring at him with a poisonous stare.

"Next time don't draw your blade and there won't be any problem," Hao Xuan threw the saber back to her while looking around.

"You're giving it back just like that? Not afraid I will strike again?" she smirked.

Hao Xuan didn't even look at her while answering, "I would be a little apprehensive if you had any skills but a well-trained toddler could disarm you so, I think I will be safe."

The answer obviously put her in a sour mood but there was nothing she could say in return.

"Why all the secrecy? Why did we need to hide? You still own the Inn, don't you?"

"Of course, I own the inn!" she yelled in a whisper, "And that's exactly why I can't be seen trading blows with lowly slaves."

Hao Xuan snickered, "But there wasn't much trading going on there, only receiving."

"YOU!" she bit her lips to keep from lashing out again, "Leave once the crowd disperses, there is nothing for you here."

She sheathed the saber and walked to the other side of the storage room towards a small lever that was hidden behind one of the barrels. She pulled it to reveal a new door.

"Leave!" she stood aside pointing at the exit.
