The Dawn of the New World Chapter 1521
Hao Xuan had chosen his words carefully to let them know he meant them or their plans no harm while pushing himself up by revealing a bit about his 'masters'. This way there would be fewer chances of them interfering with him.
His knee bounced up and down as Hao Xuan impatiently waited for them to finish.
'Come on get this over with, what more do you want to know?? I have told you I am not a threat, move on already. Is she looking at me? I can't tell anything with my damn eyesight right now!'
He cleared his throat, "Will there be anything else?"
Lady Saira cut her conversation short to speak to him again.
"Ah, my apologies. You know how girls love to gossip," she said with a cheeky smile and a giggle, and if he could see her then maybe it would have had some effect but-
"Then I'll leave you to your gossiping," Hao Xuan tried to get up but she grabbed his sleeve.
"JUST- One last question, please?"
"Fine, but please make it quick," he said while sitting back down.
Her jovial expression was suddenly replaced by a cold look as she stared him down, "Do you truly believe Nae Shin is the chosen one?"
Hao Xuan went quiet. They both looked into each other's eyes for clues, although he could see little more than her piercing blue gaze trying to bore a hole into his soul.
"Do you think he is not? And if so, why? How?" he questioned.
"It doesn't matter what I think, I'm asking what you believe. Do you think he is the chosen one?"
After taking a moment to ponder the meaning of the words that were about to come out of his mouth, Hao Xuan confidently answered.
"You saw the chosen with your own eyes. You stood before him and felt the presence of each of the Nine, did you not? How can you question that?? Question the NINE?!" he jumped to his feet in mock rage.
Hao Xuan had to make them believe that even asking a question like that was crossing the line into heresy, even if it meant dying himself in the colors of a zealot.
But even then she waited for the marbles to move before answering and as expected, all of them rolled to the left because he wasn't wrong in the least. They had seen the 'chosen one' and felt his presence, but he never clearly stated that it was Nae Shin he was talking about.
"As for how I know-" he tapped his chest proudly, "Once upon a time I was a great warrior. I walked the halls of the inner-sanctum and spoke with my peers- many of whom would be your masters now!"
He turned to face Song Yi. This question clearly came from her. She still had doubts so he needed to bury them right here and now.
'This girl holds the rank of a 'Follower'. I need to go one higher, an attendant should be believable enough for her to not question me again.'
The ranks of those who served the Nine were Followers, Servants, Attendants, and Champions- of which there could only be one.
He called forth the Crown of Darkness but limited its effect to what he remembered Baba Jezda's mark felt like since she was also an attendant.
The sunlight coming in through the window halved in an instant before dimming to the point of non-existence. The pressure began to mount as black smoke from the void fire covered his silhouette.
"THI-"
"?!?"
"???"
Their reactions ranged from confusion to utter disbelief. Bertha couldn't sense the mark but she could see its effects play out in real-time while the other two were presented with a rank that exceeded theirs by many margins.
And this suffocating pressure was the strongest for Song Yi since they both served the same entity.
"IMPOSSIBLE!!" she screamed hysterically, "HOW COULD YOU- A FILTHY SLAVE CANNOT-"
Hao Xuan made a grasping motion to forcefully activate Song Yi's mark.
"AAAH!"
She cried out in pain before her knees buckled. Even her supreme cultivation could do little to defend against it. She had signed over her soul to the Nine and they did not take disobedience lightly. Not to mention that Hao Xuan was the Champion and his real authority far outmatched anything she would have ever seen.
If he so desired he could kill her with a thought.
"MY LORD!" Lady Saira went down on her hands and knees without any hesitation, "Please stay your hand! We did not know!"
That was all Hao Xuan needed to hear.
With a snap of his fingers the darkness receded into the crown before vanishing altogether, freeing Song Yi from his grasp. She gasped for breath like a fish out of water.
"I am no one's lord," Hao Xuan coldly stated.
Both Lady Saira and Bertha ran over to Song Yi to check on her well-being.
This would have been the perfect time to take his leave but Hao Xuan hesitated. He needed to give himself a backstory- one they could neither verify nor disprove but still respect just enough to stay out of his way, especially Song Yi.
He continued in a low voice, mixing exaggerated facts from his past with complete fiction to concoct an age-old tale.
