The Dawn of the New World Chapter 1582
Aunty Vei cleared her throat, "No that is- it is a little more complicated than that Yui."
She was having trouble finding the right words because the reality was a little different than the picture she had just painted. With a deep sigh she explained in detail.
"Although we tried to be less disruptive, some confrontations were impossible to avoid like with the slave traders. They did not like that we were giving demihumans hope and a place they get run off to in need be. At first we would buy and free all demihumans slaves but once they caught on all such dealings ended in bloodshed."
"And if that wasn't enough, our disruption of the slave trade routes garnered attention from many powerful forces. Most did not take us seriously and turned a blind eye to the Estate but a select few could see the dangers we could pose in the future. It was actually quite obvious," she smirked to herself thinking of all they had achieved.
"In less than a decade we went from a group of no-name vagrants to one of the most powerful forces in the upper layers of the Abyss! And we were only going to get bigger and stronger since every slave from the 60th layer to the 1st wanted to run away and join us. We had POWER in unity, more than anyone could have thought."
But her expression began to dim along with the light in her eyes.
"Unfortunately our unprecedented growth created new hurdles we hadn't anticipated. We had too many people coming in from all kinds of different places and these people...they twisted our messages and intentions. Instead of standing for liberty and justice for all- they wanted to wage war on the ancient clans and take what was theirs. Seeds of discord began to take root within our ranks."
Lady Yuki didn't know what to say.
'I had no idea all that was happening...'
Aunty Vei continued, "It was a pretty rough time, Yui. Your father was out every other day trying to keep the peace and your mother was doing her best to keep things from boiling over at the estate. By then we had already been contacted by several powerful forces that wanted us to either join them or cease our efforts. The man you are looking for, he was one of them."
Lady Yuki became even more attentive at the mention of this mysterious individual.
"I remember when I first saw him- that look of madness in his eyes," she commented in a low voice, "He said the Old Gods were watching. He was with them, you know, the ones from the 'Sanctum' or somewhere."
The atmosphere became colder by the mere mention of that place.
"He said there was a great calamity headed our way and only by joining them could we be saved- that and the prophecy was all he talked about."
Lady Yuki's eyes widened as she jumped to her feet, "The Prophecy?! What prophecy???"

A few minutes later Lady Yuki exited the noodle shop despite everyone pleading her to stay a bit longer.
Aunty Vei held her hand one last time while reluctantly giving her the information she had asked for.
"That man dropped by earlier. He said he was looking for someone special who would change everything- like we had tried and failed to do. He was boasting about it as if it had already happened. I am not sure where he is staying but he was last seen north-east, behind the commercial district. But be careful, he is..."
She warned Lady Yuki repeatedly before giving her the man's description, even going as far as to make her promise to come back during the day with a full escort to find the man in question so how could she say no? It was not like she was leaving empty-handed so...
Lady Yuki bade them farewell and started walking towards the portal lost in her own little world.
Waclaw had been waiting for her so when he saw she was beginning to head back, he went ahead to make sure the portal was clear and ready.
'There was so much I didn't know,' Lady Yuki realized, 'Ama was always so composed that I could never tell when something was wrong. What if...why didn't you come with me that night ma...you had to follow that stupid cat out into the flames.'
*Meeew*
Lady Yuki froze mid-stride upon hearing the noise. She looked up and saw a black cat lying on the side of the street.
"You scared me," she mumbled while approaching the kitten, "Where did you come from? Mmm?"
As she knelt down to pet it the cat looked back giving her another shock. There was a distinct pattern of a white crown on her head.
Her throat dried out in an instant.
"Where- Coincidence! This has to be a coincidence," she told herself, "Ama's cat had a ribb-"
The cat jumped onto the sidewall to reveal the blue ribbon tied around her neck as if in direct response to her.
