The Dawn of the New World Chapter 1473
He stared at Hao Xuan in a daze, mouth agape.
"Can you hear me?" Hao Xuan leaned in to ask in a low voice.
Staring into T'wil's eyes he could almost see the changes taking place in real time, almost like the brain rewiring itself.
"My friend, are you okay?" he reached out and lightly tapped T'wil on the hand, waking him up.
He was flustered- as if having forcefully awoken from a deep slumber.
"Huh? What did you say?"
"I was asking if there is anything else cheaper than this. It doesn't have to be good, just needs to be able to cut and I will gladly take it," Hao Xuan repeated for the second or third time, putting on his most friendly expression.
But the look in T'wil's eye had certainly turned much warmer now. He seemed troubled, his pupils warily darting around the room.
"There...aren't any swords in your price range...sir," he replied apologetically while taking out a piece of paper and writing something down.
'Motherf- 18,000 favour down the drain,' Hao Xuan cursed inwardly and turned around to leave but was stopped by T'wil.
"You can check back later at this time, maybe something new will come in," he placed the paper directly in Hao Xuan's hand which was certainly odd.
And after reading through the contents all of Hao Xuan's regrets were squished.
He flashed a smile, "Thank you very much," picked up his coin pouch, and left.
But instead of going back to the inn, Hao Xuan circled the street and ducked into an alley when no one was looking, which opened up right behind the shop.
There T'wil was already waiting for him by the back exit with a crate full of shinny objects. He stepped aside to give Hao Xuan a better view.
"These ones are either specially ordered by customers who never came back to pick them up, or had some faults and were returned after purchase. We usually keep these in the back for a few weeks before sending them to the smithy so they can be reused."
Hao Xuan knelt down to check some of the swords and blades that were suitable for him. He didn't know much about weaponsmithing at this point but the Midas Touch told him that each one of them was leagues above the ones he was shown before, which was a problem.
Some of these were TOO good.
"Are you sure this is okay? They seem expensive, surely someone will notice them go missing. I don't want you to get in trouble just for helping me out."
T'wil almost let out a smile but managed to hold it back in the end. Shaking his head, he replied in much the same cold manner.
"No one will notice. They have all been paid for and once the waiting period is over they will be melted down."
"Really? That's great news then!"
Hao Xuan took out a few that caught his eye and swung them around to get a good feel for them.
"Hmm, this one is not bad at all. I will take it," he went with a rather simple-looking double-edged blade that was on the shorter side. It had a thick handle that fit perfectly in one hand while still having enough weight to feel a little meaty.
Hao Xuan took out the coin pouch and handed it over, along with the other weapons that were taken out to be tested. But T'wil turned away with a wave of his hand, "No need to pay. You can keep all of them, they are nothing special."
"Really?"
Hao Xuan didn't have the heart to reject his kindness. Each of those weapons had caught his interest for a reason.
"Take the gold at least, just as a thank you," he insisted but T'wil was not having it.
"Hmph, what will I do with a handful of coins? Keep them, you need them more," his reply was rather condescending but the actions said otherwise.
Even if the Beast Charmer ability was the cause of it, it could not make T'wil feel or do something he wasn't already capable of. Meaning somewhere deep down he was a kind person but was putting up a cold front.
All the ability did was make them friends and create a sense of kinship between them.
"Then, I will accept these gifts and return the favor another day."
T'wil finally chuckled...even if it felt like he was mocking Hao Xuan.
"Sure~, I will wait for that day."
He picked up the crate and went back in, leaving Hao Xuan to gleefully go through the assortment of weapons.
There were three in total, apart from the sword he had chosen.
The first one was a band that could be tied around the leg or the arm. It had six small blades about five inches long each. Their design was quite odd with one serrated side, a hole in the middle and a razor-sharp edge on the other side.
Hao Xuan played with a couple.
'Whoever ordered these must have been especially cruel. Getting stabbed by one of these would hurt like hell, not to mention the gaping wound it would leave behind that will not close easily. It is made to inflict as much harm in, as painful of a manner as possible.'
