The Dawn of the New World Chapter 1570
Hao Xuan could have sworn up and down the city that he never saw anything and it wouldn't have made a difference to her. But seeing that he physically could not was an entirely different matter.
Ji Yan stared into his eyes for what felt like an eternity before uncertainly whispering, "You...were blind?"
"Not blind," he corrected her, "Just a little um- 'visually challenged' for a little while. It's taking longer than I expected to heal."
Her eyes narrowed and all of a sudden she swung at him again but this time he was prepared enough to catch her hand.
"LIAR!" she screamed.
Hao Xuan tightened his fist in irritation and through gritted teeth gave one last warning.
"The details escape me but I can still perceive rough shapes and figures- especially fast-moving ones like that. You swing at me one more time and I'm throwing you out buck-naked. See how long your 'honour' lasts moving through the city like that."
But his threats fell on deaf ears since Ji Yan had other things on her mind.
"So you really didn't see anything?"
*sigh*
He nodded before setting her free.
"But you could have still f-felt it!" she suddenly followed up with another accusation which almost made him explode on the spot.
And he would have were it not for some of the effects of 'Regis Officium' still helping him maintain the bare minimum level of composure required to function in a society. (Ch 1332)
"Feel WHAT?!" he roared, "You're flatter than a 12-year-old boy!"
"I THOUGHT YOU COULDN'T SEE!" she embarrassedly retorted.
"I CAN'T! But I can still perceive shapes- or lack thereof!"
"Go to hell! I'm not a child!"
"I never said you were, stupid woman, but that doesn't mean you're not built like one!"
"Hmph! What would you know?! I have curves for days in my- !!" she caught herself before saying too much and fortunately Hao Xuan didn't catch on either.
He scoffed, "Hah! Let me finish that thought for you- In your dreams!"
"YOU-"
She reached down to pick up another rock but the shade's words rang loudly in her mind.
[You must appear polite, gentle, and naive. Let him be the savior, cater to his whims to get close]
'By the goddess, what do I do now? I lost control and ended up saying all those things...'
After shoving the bloodied clothes in her direction Hao Xuan quickly walked back to the other side.
"Seeing as you're well enough to make such a ruckus, get out!"
The aggressive nature she had cultivated for the past fifteen years could not be suppressed that easily. She responded without thinking or missing a beat, "YOU get out! Who the hell are you to tell me what to do?! Do you own the city?? A mere slave-"
Once again she had to forcefully reign herself in before things got much worse.
"Whatever, do what you want then," Hao Xuan mumbled to himself choosing not to associate with her anymore.
She kept stealing glances at him trying to come up with another solution.
'The plan failed spectacularly. But if I'm being honest it's not all my fault! That stupid shade should have known royalty like me is not meant to do such menial tasks! How could I, a princess chosen by the 'Great Mother', lower myself to the standard of a stupid slave?! I will just tell mother- oh no, mother! That shade will tell her everything!'
The Matriarch of the Song Clan was a vicious and stern ruler. She did not treat failures lightly so if she found out then even the Princess would not get out unfazed.
Ji Yan hesitantly turned to Hao Xuan, "H-Hey, what happened to that sha- shitty bounty hunter?"
"Dead," he responded without even opening his eyes.
'Noo! That means the shade escaped and-'
Out of nowhere the image of a black slime-like creature passed through her mind.
'Huh? What was that? It was here...'
She looked around but found no signs of it.
'Huh...strange. But my problem persists. If that stupid shade already told mother about the plan then I can't just quit anymore, I have to see it through no matter the cost! But...how?'
Ji Yan racked her brain while eyeing Hao Xuan up and down and could only come up with one obvious answer.
'Gold! He is a poor slave, they all need gold! I can just hire him and then he will HAVE to spend time with me!'
"Ahem!"
She cleared her throat and without putting up any fronts got to the point, "W-Work for me!"
Hao Xuan could only be bothered to open one eye out of annoyance, "What?"
"Work me- FOR me! Protect me until we get to the next settlement so no other bounty hunters come after me. I will pay! You can fight, right? Since you killed that guy you mustn't be too bad-"
Hao Xuan waved his hand like he was shooing away a dog, "Not interested."
Her fingers curled out of pure anger, "I said I will PAY, are you deaf?" she muttered through gritted teeth, "Fifty- No five hundred gold!"
His brow furrowed, "Five hundred gold?!"
That was a stupidly large amount but she didn't know that. In fact, she thought it was the opposite.
'Is that too little?? I don't know how much these slaves need.'
"P-Per day! Five hundred gold per day if you protect me!"
