The Dawn of the New World Chapter 1509
Nae Shin went straight up to the third floor, making wide strides towards the last door at the end of the hallway. He reached into his robe and pulled out a triangular key, slowly pushing the door open to peer inside.
"Are you...there?" he gingerly whispered into the dark room.
A hand reached out from the back and pushed, "Stop blocking the way," scaring him half to death.
Nae Shin looked back at Hao Xuan, "Wah! I thought you said you were already going to be in-"
"I said I'll meet you inside. How would I be able to get in without the key?" Hao Xuan explained while moving past him.
The room was much bigger than the one he was given. There was a massive bed to the right and a bathroom to the left with a window on the opposite side. Some chairs and tables were blocking the only closet towards the extreme left.
"Hmm, not too bad," he commented somewhat enviously.
Nae Shin quickly picked up a few shirts that were scattered around the floor and placed them on the chair, "I didn't- I'm usually very clean!"
Hao Xuan ignored him and quickly took a seat on the bed.
"Sit," he gestured towards Nae Shin.
Nae Shin walked up to the bed- paused to think about it for a couple of seconds before awkwardly sitting on the floor in front of him.
"I-I pay my respect to the teacher," he said while kowtowing which made Hao Xuan frown.
"Don't do that, I'm not your teacher. This is more like a partnership, simple give and take."
"But I don't have anything to give-" Nae Shin said with a lowered head.
"Who said I was taking anything from you?" Hao Xuan flicked him on the forehead, "Stop jumping to conclusions and listen!"
"Ahh, that hurts!" Nae Shin coiled up like an earthworm in a plate of salt.
"That's the point, sit up! I don't have all day," Hao Xuan exclaimed, prompting Nae Shin to follow his orders obediently.
Hao Xuan glanced towards the door and continued in a much gentler tone.
"How far is your ancestral home from here?"
Nae Shin's eyes swiveled back and forth nervously as he muttered under his breath, "Home? I don't know, very? Hyung took care of all that so I never needed to know..."
Even though he expected such an answer Hao Xuan couldn't help but hurl a few curses inwardly.
"And you never even asked?! *sigh* Forget it, I'll try to find out myself. Do you have any way of getting in contact with someone from the main clan?"
"No...I don't...think so..." his voice was becoming weaker and weaker with every word.
*Sigh*
"Okay. For the next two days I need you to stay in the room. Don't go out no matter what, understand? Just focus on recovering first and foremost."
Hao Xuan got up to leave but Nae Shin grabbed his arm, "WAIT! W-What if something happens?? How will I find you?"
With a roll of his eyes, Hao Xuan took out a set of similar keys to the ones Nae Shin had used, "I will be two doors down from you. If- and I do mean IF there is a problem then you come straight to me. Talk to no one else apart from asking them to come get me, your "personal" guard. That said, nothing should happen any time soon."
He patted Nae Shin on the head prompting him to loosen his grip.
"Relax," Hao Xuan assured him upon seeing his anxious expression, "They will be too busy with the city to do anything else. And it's not like you committed a crime, this is just a little caution against any potential enemies. If it comes down to it I will take care of everything."
Nae Shin nodded wordlessly.
"Rest and recover, that's all you need to do."
Hao Xuan left his room and went one door down, putting in the key he had gotten from one of the guards. The door clicked open without any trouble but as soon as he stepped inside a magic circle lit up under his feet.
Three sword-wielding deviants materialized on either side and the front, ready to cut him in half. Hao Xuan wanted to move back but the door had already been shut behind him, and breaking it would only rouse more suspicion.
"Tsk."
He was about to break through the spell with brute force but something caught his eye on the magic circle. There were four large characters in the center of the magic circle and one of them looked quite odd, as if it was inscribed very recently.
He carefully stomped thrice going anti-clockwise, extinguishing the spell without breaking it. Then he moved out of the circle to examine it closely. There were obvious demonic influences present within those runes.
"How absurdly crude. What kind of a simpleton uses an ignition rune for a trap spell? Fucking idiots..." he grumbled, "Almost made me act up."
Hao Xuan quickly threw together the two small beds and sat in the middle with crossed legs.
"Alexander, we need to talk."
