The Dawn of the New World Chapter 1508
Liet tried to ppull himself up with some effort and focused on Hao Xuan who- seemed to be lost in some deep thoughts.
"You shouldn't have...done that," he muttered through heavy breaths, "Opening yourself to the other planes in- in such an obvious manner will...only spell trouble."
Hao Xuan slowly opened his eyes, creating a barely discernable ripple in the surroundings.
"It was going to happen sooner or later," he whispered, "At least this way you lived."
He scanned the surroundings upon noticing a distinct lack of Yin energy.
"We're not moving anymore."
Liet noticed it too which quickly gave him a pretty good idea as to the reason behind it.
"All thanks to you...I suppose."
"Me?" Hao Xuan questioned with a crumpling brow, "Explain."
"The um, 'umbral planes' and our material planes are two sides of the same coin, a reflection of the other, correct? So-"
"Oh right, I forgot," Hao Xuan cut him off, "The soul holds a lot more weight over there, I lost control for a second."
Liet hauled himself to his shaky feet despite barely being able to stand on his own, "Are you okay?" he asked Hao Xuan
"Yeah, but the others are louder than ever now."
Liet and Nae Shin looked at each other and then at the empty surroundings, "What others?" they asked in unison.
Hao Xuan waved them away, "Never mind, nothing you need to worry about."
He turned around to face Nae Shin, "We should go. This should be enough of a distraction. They will be too busy with the city to care about much else at this point."
But then he paused to look at Liet, "Will you be okay?"
He smiled, "Yes I will be fine, thank you for asking. If you need anything you know where to find me."
"Hmm. Come," he gestured for Nae Shin to follow and walked out.
Nae Shin was rooted to the ground for a few seconds before he came to.
"Ehh? Just like that?" he muttered and ran after him.
They made their way back towards the other districts that seemed to have come alive thanks to the recent developments.
Hao Xuan stopped at the end of the street, intently watching the crowds of people in front of them.
"What?" he suddenly asked, "I can feel you looking at me, it is annoying."
Nae Shin shrugged, "Are you...really okay? Earlier that was- I mean I have never seen anything like that. It was...wow..."
Hao Xuan thought about it for a couple of seconds before answering in much the same nonchalant manner, "What is done cannot be undone. One day you will peer behind the veil just like I have...maybe then we can continue this conversation. But for now- where will you be staying?"
Nae Shin pointed in the direction he was looking in, "At the Inn. It was the only 'clean place' here apart from the upper districts."
Hao Xuan gave a nod with a raised eyebrow, "Good, that makes it more convenient. Let's go, we need to talk anyway."
They navigated through the congested city streets full of worried citizens and workers, slaves, humans, and beastmen alike. For once they had all put aside their differences in hopes of receiving some answers for the sudden calamity that had befallen the city.
Being stranded for too long in one place was nothing short of a death sentence in this sandy hell but, at least for the moment, Hao Xuan did not care about any of that.
With Nae Shin in tow they reached the Inn within a few minutes and as expected, it was teeming with patrons just like every other place.
"What room?" Hao Xuan asked.
"I don't know the number, hyung took care of all that," Nae Shin responded with a forlorn expression, remembering his precarious situation, "It's the last room on the third floor."
"Okay, go there, I'll meet you inside."
"Huh? Are you sure? You can't just sneak in-" but by the time Nae Shin looked over he was all alone.
"Hello?" he glanced around for a few seconds before giving up and making his way inside.
There were far too many people so no one noticed him, well, no one apart from Bertha who was standing halfway up the staircase keeping a watchful eye on the comings and goings.
Her eyes narrowed as she watched Nae Shin walk past her. With a snap of her fingers Rukia appeared behind her. (Ch 1453)
"How many were there for the Shin party?" she questioned.
Rukia took out a small book from her bosom and looked up the information.
"Four people, 3 rooms. The two young masters have their own rooms."
"Hmm, have any of them gone out alone?"
"No, the older Shin boy left once or twice but there was still a guard with him. Although..."
"What?"
"The guards looked a little different from when I first saw them."
Bertha's eyes narrowed, "You think they replaced them?"
"It appears so."
"The younger one just came back by himself. Find the other three for me."
"Yes."
