The Dawn of the New World Chapter 1523
Luz made sure to make a big fuss about it in front of as many people as possible while he dragged Hao Xuan away like an evil stepmother.
"How could yous d-do this? Luz expected better from you!"
And it would have bothered Hao Xuan a little if he didn't already know what Luz was planning.
Luz brought him to the small room that Rukia had given him near the storage room in the back. He checked to make sure they were out of earshot before apologizing.
"Brother Jin are you okay?? I'm sorry, okay? Luz was worried when he hear Song Princess want to see you! Luz thought the crazy one would kill you! She is CRAZY you know! Yous should stay away from her!"
Whether it was because of the effects of the 'Beast Charmer' blessing or an actual connection, Luz was genuinely concerned for his wellbeing which made Hao Xuan smile.
"Were you worried about me?" he asked jokingly but Luz bobbed his head up and down.
"Of course! Why wouldn't Luz be worried for his friend??"
His response left Hao Xuan feeling a little uncomfortable. This is exactly what he intended when they first met but to see such a pure expression come out as a result of his devious intentions was more than a little odd.
'I guess I'm still not heartless enough to treat people like tools to be used and thrown away. That is one way I won't ever be like the Emperor...' he thought before patting Luz on the head.
"Don't worry about me, I won't die that easily. Why did you come today? Did something happen?"
Hao Xuan's question reminded Luz why he had come to the inn in the first place.
"Rufgar! He asks for you. All of the frees slaves is called to the gates."
"The gates?" Hao Xuan frowned, "Any idea why?"
He shrugged, "Luz don't know. We was down there to pass on Lady Yukio's parcel to him and he askeded about yous."
'Is it me or is his vocabulary getting worse by the day?' Hao Xuan wondered while patting him on the shoulder.
"Okay, I'll go down there now."
"Un! I comes back at night then, many things to doos! And maybe I even have good news for yous!" Luz left as quickly as he had appeared, leaving Hao Xuan to ruminate on the recent events.
"Good news, huh? That'll be the day..."
'But at least Song Yi shouldn't bother me now as long as I stay out of her sight. The others don't seem to care much either way, all of their attention should be focused on Nae Shin and the city. For now I need to focus on the veil and make use of the Umbral Planes, there is a LOT to be explored there.'
Sounds of shouting and cursing came from the door interrupting his train of thought.
'The whole city is like a powder keg ready to explode and it hasn't even been a whole day. If worse comes to worst I might have to leave on foot. Having Grey with me would have been really helpful...I should figure out another mode of transportation.'
Seeing as it was Rufgar himself who had called for Hao Xuan he couldn't make him wait too long. (Ch 1466)
Hao Xuan departed for the main gates but only realized on the way that the situation was far worse than he initially expected.
There were fights taking place every few steps and with emotions running high it was only going to get worse. And the intense heat bearing down on the whole city didn't help either. Now that the barrier was working at minimum capacity it couldn't maintain the temperature and protect the city at the same time.
Hao Xuan felt like he was in an oven and the lower he got the hotter it became thanks to thousands of people being forced into such cramped places.
Ninety-five percent of the individuals at the lower levels had white marks on their chests like Hao Xuan, meaning they were all slaves.
He pushed his way through to Rufgar's desk where some guards with menacing auras blocked his path.
"Halt! No one past this point, the doors are closed!"
They had two horns each on their heads and protruding bulky bellies with snouts to match. They were beastmen, probably from an oxen tribe, and not weak either since their energies teetered on the edge of the Origin Realm while their spears looked sharp to cut through bone.
"Rufgar asked for me!" Hao Xuan informed them but the background noises were too loud.
"WHAT?"
"RUFGAR! HE ASKED FOR ME!"
"WAIT HERE! LET ME CHECK!"
Despite their threatening vibes one of the guards quickly went behind the gigantic desk and returned not a minute later.
"YOUR NAME, WHAT IS IT??"
"JIN!"
"COME WITH ME!" he gestured and the guards moved aside.
As Hao Xuan tried to go through several people tried to push their way alongside him.
"US TOO! WE CAN WORK! TAKE US TOO PLEASE!"
