The Dawn of the New World Chapter 1569
Ji Yan's eyelids fluttered as she fought to keep the drowsiness at bay but it was just so nice and comfortable inside the toasty blanket.
The heat from the campfire warmed her face while the occasional crackle and pop of the burning logs acted like a siren's call lulling her back to sleep.
She held the blanket tighter while smiling foolishly in her sleep, trying to remember the last time she felt this good. Probably not since her 10th birthday when she officially became the Song Clan's Princess. Everything after that had been...a blur.
**
After what felt like an eternity Ji Yan slowly opened her eyes when she was fully rested.
The first thing she saw was the misty fog swirling in the darkness overhead like an ocean of rain clouds.
'Am I...outside?' was her first thought which was quickly followed up by the recent events, 'No I was- that slave, Jin! What happened?!'
Ji Yan sat up in a hurry while examining her surroundings but when she was where she was and with whom her worries melted away.
Hao Xuan was sitting cross-legged on the other side of the campfire with his eyes closed.
'He's here!' she exclaimed inwardly, 'But what happened? I don't remember anything after I got here. How could I fall asleep? Was it a spell?? What did he do to me?!'
She pulled the blanket off and saw the new clothes she now had on. Her face turned red in a mixture of shame and anger as she grabbed the nearest object and threw it at his face.
His hand moved faster than what Ji Yan could perceive and grabbed it out of the air before opening one eye to peer in her direction.
"That's not a nice thing to do," he lazily muttered, "Especially to someone who saved your life just a few hours ago."
Her cheeks swelled as she picked up a few more stones and hurled them at him with every new accusation, "You deviant! Degenerate! Pervert!"
He picked them out of the air like they were stationary, which only made her angrier.
She threw the blanket away and jumped to her feet with a baseball-sized rock in hand.
"Yo-You LECHER!"
Ji Yan pulled back her hand but could not bring it forward because Hao Xuan was already standing inches away from her.
"W-Wha-"
She tried to move back but stumbled on the blanket and nearly fell over but he grabbed her by the waist and pulled her close so she wouldn't throw anything else.
"I've just about had it with you people," he muttered through gritted teeth, outraged at her behavior.
"I could snap you like a twig here and now and no one would ever know! Do you have any idea what I had to go through-"
*Smack*
Before he could even properly threaten her, the teary-eyed Ji Yan slapped him across the face leaving Hao Xuan speechless for a moment.
"...."
He didn't know whether to be angry or embarrassed but looking at her dreary appearance the only emotion he could somehow feel was remorse.
*sigh*
He breathed a heavy sigh to collect himself before speaking again in a much more relaxed tone.
"Why are you the one crying after hitting me?"
She tried to slip out of his grasp which only made him tighten his hold even more. She was so small in this new body that her feet left the ground when he straightened his back.
"L-Let me gho!" she burst out crying before the last word left her lips.
'????'
'What the actual fuck?!'
Hao Xuan was utterly flabbergasted.
"H-Hey stop, why are you crying? What's wrong with you??"
She let go of the rock to cover her face while bawling uncontrollably.
"You- You took my h-honour! My ch-chastity!" she whimpered.
Unlike most others of her age, Princess Yi valued her purity above all else. She had made a vow to the 'Great Mother' upon her initiation into the Sanctum to stay away from such worldly temptations until she met "the one" destined for her.
Hao Xuan's eyes almost popped out of his head as he swiftly loosened his grip and gently set her down.
"I didn't! I swear! Look!" he reached behind her and pulled out a pile of bloodied clothes.
"You were unconscious from the blood loss when I found you, I promise! You were so cold and covered in blood that I had no choice but to change them and wrap you up in the blanket so you could recover while the medicine did its work. I never touched you inappropriately ANYWHERE!"
Her sobbing slowed just enough for her to glance at the pile of bloodied garments and then at her almost healed hand but that still wasn't enough to stop it.
"You- you still s-saw everything!" Ji Yan murmured breathlessly while tears rolled down her cheeks.
Hao Xuan immediately got down on his knees and waved a hand in front of his face, "I DIDN'T, LOOK!"
She paused long enough for him to utter the words- "I can't see."
Sniffling and snuffling Ji Yan looked up and met his gaze.
"W-What are you-"
She was pulled in by his piercing green irises that were bright enough to peer into anyone's soul but she quickly noticed that they were unfocused. He was barely a few inches away but he might as well be looking into the distance.
