The Dawn of the New World Chapter 1494

"Did you read my mind?!" Hao Xuan asked without giving it much thought, "And gifted with what?" right before berating himself inwardly the very next moment.

'Why am I even talking to him? For fuck sakes, don't engage with the mentally handicapped!'

Liet gestured to the space around Hao Xuan, "I am not a mind reader but I can pick up on things. Your thoughts, once thunk, are not yours alone."

'???'

'What does that even mean? Whatever, just- ignore and he will give up sooner or later. Poor guy must have lost his marbles, who knows how long he's been cooped up out here.'

Hao Xuan looked away without saying another word, opting to stare into the flames rather than meet his optimistic gaze, which, to his credit, did have an effect.

"Ohh, that's not good..." Liet lost his energetic spirits rather quickly, "You don't believe me do you?"

'Huh, maybe he really can't read my mind. But he can still tell a thing or two somehow...'

Liet kept glancing at the space around Hao Xuan as if looking for something.

"It's okay, you don't have to believe me," he muttered in a low voice, "There aren't many like me within the abyss so it is only natural that you have doubts. If you would give me a chance I could prove to you but...I understand..."

He lowered his head and turned towards the wall, brushing his fingers around the nooks and crannies as if trying to map it out in his mind.

A couple of minutes passed and when Hao Xuan was sure there wouldn't be any more distractions, he discreetly called out the Crown of Darkness to see what was going on.

Liet's body froze and he slowly looked in Hao Xuan's direction like a robot.

"One of the shadows became stronger!" he whispered to himself while his sparkling eyes focused on Hao Xuan's back, "What a hungry shadow you have! It is going to eat you one day if no one stops it..."

With a knitted brow, Hao Xuan scrolled up and down. His total favour came out to 49,110 since calling in that last blessing to cover his tracks used up a little more than what he had gotten by sacrificing the three souls.

*sigh*

'I need to get more favour and quick! There are so many things I could do if I wasn't limited by this, tsk!'

His thoughts simply had to reach up to this point to trigger a reaction from somewhere deep within his soul. It even manifested physically, making Hao Xuan itch on the right side of his neck.

'What is this??'

The "virtual screen" he had imagined to access the inner sanctum's network of blessings began to falter. It started as static that got progressively stronger in the next few seconds, breaking down into rows of primitive indistinct characters that resembled cave paintings.

First these characters took over the entire screen like a deadly virus before even bleeding outside of it into his normal vision.

Hao Xuan's eyes widened as these strange characters flew through the air and traveled to the side of his neck, planting themselves firmly on his skin where he was itching.

His entire field of vision took on a green glow as he felt a connection being created to something off in the distance.

And by distance he did not mean physically, but spiritually. This 'thing' that was on the other side trying to communicate with him, it was unlike any he had come across so far and yet- not entirely foreign.

Because he had sensed some semblance of it once before when they were branding his soul with its mark.

'I bow to thee,' he said inwardly while lowering his head, 'To the seat of the great Forgotten Horror!'

*woooosh*

He felt something breathe loudly in front of him just as his soul was forcefully transported to another realm altogether.

Everything here existed in a colorless grey field of vision. Hao Xuan was standing on the edge of a cliff staring into the emptyness in front of him.

Well, it looked to be empty but he knew there was something down there, something horrific and ancient slumbering in the depths of this endless gorge.

It spoke to him, not in any language he understood but in its own way. He could hear it breathing, slowly but with conviction. And each one of those breaths brought forth a host of information.

The "virtual screen" popped up again and it had a picture of a man this time with a few words underneath.

As soon as Hao Xuan read its contents the screen disappeared and his soul was thrust back into his body. He looked down at his hands where a flickering image reflected in his palm.

"Rain?" he repeated, "You want me to kill this guy? Is this like a contract out for him or something? That's a lot of favour for killing just one guy..."

He looked up upon sensing a presence nearby and as expected, Liet was standing over him.
