The Dawn of the New World Chapter 1470
"Well, I-I wouldn't be so sure about that," Ruslan chimed in at the worst possible time, ruining Ackey's brief moment of relief.
Ackey's fists tightened in anger but he kept himself in check, "Why...do you say that? Is there more?"
"Uh, I'm afraid there is," Ruslan scanned the next few pages while talking absentmindedly, "Ever since the aurora, some things have been happening that I couldn't explain before but I think they make sense now...well a few of them do."
Pan walked up beside him, "Then stop wasting our time and spit it out before I do something you will regret."
Ruslan suddenly held up the book to his face with several different quotes written on it.
"I interviewed a few people we picked up in the last three days and they all said things that were really bothering me," he pointed at the underlined words, "Strange happenings all over- even by the standards of the Abyss."
"Territorial tribes that had never left their regions since inception have suddenly begun moving. All manner of beasts, spirits, and demons have grown restless and started to emerge in places that are far away from their normal habitats. There have already been more than half a dozen first-hand accounts of inexplicable phenomenons taking place all over..."
He rambled on like a crazy person, talking about every odd thing that had passed through his ears, no matter how big or small. Until he suddenly paused and looked up at the two demon generals.
"-But that's not the worst of it! Do either of you know why I am here on this ship?"
Pan shrugged while Ackey revealed what little he knew.
"His Majesty spoke of a very talented, high-level individual of the Sanctum that might be willing to join our side. Since you had some history with this person he sent you to see if there was something to be done about that. You are traveling to that person's abode, are you not?"
Ruslan closed the book and took a deep breath in.
"Well- yes and no. Yes, I was looking for that person, but no, I was not traveling anywhere since...they are already here on this ship. This person is the new daughter of the 'Song' Clan."
Ackey turned to Pan for details, "The Song Clan?" and he answered.
"They are an ancient clan located somewhere around the 500th Abyss layer. On the surface, they are just like any other ancient clan with deep pockets that have not only managed to etch out a living in the abyss but also flourish from it. But the truth is they are one of the oldest and most loyal servants of one of the Nine!"
"A servant of the Nine?!" Ackey repeated in a mix of shock and excitement, "Which one?!"
"That- we don't know, yet," he shook his head bitterly, "It has been difficult trying to turn any of them since they want for nothing, lording over any place they visit," and then his expression turned somber at the realization, "But this human thinks he can do what even I couldn't?!"
Ruslan quickly threw up his hands, "I would never, comrade Pan! It is only possible because I have a history with her. Were it not for my unique position I would never even think about it!"
"Hmph! Out with it then, what happened?!"
"Well, I have been trying to get a meeting with her for the longest time but she never came outside or met with any strangers so it was next to impossible...that is until tonight. As of 3 days ago, all the children of the Song Clan have started making strange moves, especially her."
Even Ackey couldn't contain his curiosity, "How so?"
"A party. She is throwing a party- a celebration for all the residents of the city. I hear it will continue for several days, but we don't know why."
"But you have an idea?"
"Yes, because of what you said!" he looked at Ackey, "You said the Timoratus were a secret group even within the sanctum, yes? And we already know that they have suffered immense losses in these last few years and are on the run. Then we can assume that the younger generation of the Song Clan would not know of them either."
"But what if...what if they chose to reveal themselves now? Be it to ask for help or to warn of our presence? They could be meeting with the Song Children under the guise of this celebration! And as comrade Pan stated, there is a high chance that one of the Timoratus is already on the ship."
Both Pan and Ackey were shocked by the implication.
Their strategy mainly revolved around turning the leaders of various clans and groups over to their side or crippling them beforehand so that when war did eventually break out, they would have the upper hand.
And for that, they needed more time.
"That could certainly be a problem...if it is true."
