Next to the drunken Lady Kyra was the last of their friend group, Lady Saira. But her eyes were closed as she counted something on her fingers while constantly murmuring a prayer.

She only opened her eyes when Lady Kyra splashed her with some water by accident.

*sigh*

"You should not drink so much that it makes it difficult for you to regulate your bodily functions," she eyed the dozen or so men in annoyance who were looking up and down Lady Kyra's body, scanning every inch of it.

"Although I am sure the gentlemen there would have no complaints..."

Princess Yi rolled her eyes, "It would be strange if they weren't looking at us. Let them look, what's the problem? All beauty should be admired, especially mine," she flipped her confidently and crossed her legs.

Lady Saira shook her head, she was exhausted just sitting next to these two.

"We should all be training- or at the very least not wasting this many resources trying to keep up appearances," she stated for the nth time trying to convince them, "Things could take a turn for the worse at any point and we need to prepare. I have a bad-"

*Treeemble~*

The castle walls shook.

"-feeling..."

The music quickly faded away and all fifty or so guests began to sober up.

Princess Yi stepped down, followed closely by the rest of the children of the Sanctum.

When Nae Shin tried to get up to join them she threw him a glare, "You- sit!"

He plonked down as if his life depended on it, "Yes mam."

*Treeeemble*

Another smaller "earthquake" hit them, but it was only affecting the walls and the ceiling and not the floor everyone was standing on.

"What's going on?!" Princess Yi shouted.

The side door opened and a guard ran in while breathing heavily.

"W-We don't know your Highness, we are unable to pinpoint the source of the disturbance as it is only targeting the castle."

Her eyes narrowed. She glanced at Lady Kyra who took the hint.

She waved her hands to summon a large wooden wheel behind her back. The moment it materialized the air became heavy, noticeably denser than before, and richer in every way possible.

This treasure looked like it was ripped from the helm of a sunken sailboat but the glowing stones mounted on its handles made it appear far more luxurious than it had any right to be.

Lady Kyra stepped forth while moving the palm of her blueish hand in a semi-clockwise fashion to make the wheel rotate by itself.

"Take me to the outer defenses," she ordered and the guard obeyed.

"This way please," he gestured to the main gate.

The guests promptly stepped aside and made way for them.

All eyes were on her now.

"Open the door- carefully!" she motioned.

The guard walked up and began to push. The massive metal door cracked open, its gaudy decorations looking more and more useless with every passing second.

"Huuuu!"

He used all his strength and being a demihuman with a bullish bloodline there was plenty of it- but after the first few inches the door refused to budge.

"Huff...huff..."

Lady Kyra noticed the sweat dripping off his brow and intervened, "Step aside."

With a single thrust of her hand two water jets shot out of the wheel and slammed against the door. She smiled when it opened with little effort on her part but when she saw what was on the other side her smile froze.

"NO-"

*wOoOoOp*

An almost electronic buzzing sound reverberated within the hall, followed by a wave of dark energy.

Lady Kyra's eyes widened as she turned around to cast a rune. All the stones mounted on the wheel came to life, showering a select few with their powers.

But it all happened so fast that she did not have enough time to cover herself in the end, only the other children of the sanctum fell under its wheel's defensive abilities.

Everyone else in the hall including the guard and Lady Kyra were frozen as they were by the time the second wave of dark energy hit the hall.

Princess Yi- understandable- was livid.

"WHO DARES!" she yelled as her shadow began to churn.

"I do," a heavy voice answered.

The door finally swung open, revealing a swirling mass of chaos on the other side. A man walked out, dressed in a leather armor that covered every inch of his body apart from his face.

He strode past the frozen crowd and up to the hostess. His blue eyes scrutinized every aspect of her until he cracked satisfied a smile.

"You look like your mother, too much perhaps," he commented in a heavy accent.

Her rage was washed away in an instant, replaced by anxiety and concern.

"Did- Did mother send you? I meant to tell her about-"

"Hahaha! No, I have not worked with her in many years. My name is Vlitgar and I am here for him," he turned towards Nae Shin, "You are the chosen, yes?"
