The Dawn of the New World Chapter 1585
Hao Xuan threw the merman a dirty look, "Stop screaming! The hell is wrong with you?? I barely even touched you."
He screamed even louder in response, "AHHH! I'm dying! I'm dying!"
One by one the patrons began to turn towards them and some even came over to check the merman's injuries, which was not good for him.
Hao Xuan's first instinct was to leave the place but there were already some creatures that were blocking the exit.
'Tsk!'
He pulled Lady Yuki into the room on the left and locked the door behind them.
"!!!"
Surprised, she tried to push him away, "What are you doing?!" but almost fell over when trying to stand on her own two feet.
Hao Xuan picked her up like an oversized doll and placed her on the large slate to the right. He tried to lift the dress a little to get a better look at her leg which was starting to turn purple but suddenly a crisp slap landed across his face, effectively freezing him on the spot.
"YOU ANIMAL!!" she cried while scrambling further up the slate, "What would your poor mother say if she saw what you were trying to do?! Cease this!"
Annoyed and short on time, Hao Xuan grabbed her by the foot and yanked her closer. Another open palm came flying towards him but he caught it and pulled her close enough to hold her down.
He could feel her raggedy breath on his face and see the abject horror in her eyes as her thoughts ran wild.
"No more slapping," he muttered lightly trying to put her heart at ease, "Otherwise you can limp out of here with the one good leg and deal with the angry crowd yourself."
'Huh? One good leg?'
She looked down and finally noticed her swollen purple and blue leg.
"?!?"
"WHAT HAPP-"
"Venom from his tentacle. I need to extract it now."
"O-Oh, thank yo- EEP!!"
The words got stuck in her throat when Hao Xuan abruptly knelt to place his lips around the wound to suck the venom out.
She used both her hands to tightly hold her skirt down while fidgeting and squirming from the strange sensations.
"This is u-undignified," she whispered to herself as a bright red blush spread across her neck and cheeks, visible even through the face covering.
"Y-You shouldn't b-be...it is w-wrong for a man and w-woman to engage in such -physical contact..."
Hao Xuan threw her a quick glare but she promptly turned away.
"P-please close your eyes! Y-you can't see a l-lady like that!"
But Hao Xuan paid her no heed and ended up removing most of the venom in a little over a minute. After spitting out the last mouthful he stood up and wiped his face.
"Now- what are you doing here? How did you even get in?"
Lady Yuki's head hung low. She couldn't bring herself to meet his gaze out of embarrassment but tried to answer his questions nonetheless.
"I entered through the wall same as e-everyone else. Am I not allowed to be here?"
Her uneasiness and dissatisfaction were on full display as she misunderstood his words.
Hao Xuan sighed, "No you are not, because you do not have a mark."
She realized what he meant and what kind of a place this was.
"Huh? Then how did I get in?"
She was just as confused as him.
He lightly flicked her on the forehead out of annoyance.
"That's what I am asking! Only those with the markings of the Old Gods can enter this space!"
"Ow!" she rubbed her forehead while meeting his gaze with a disgruntled frown, "A gentleman mustn't hurt a lady! It is improper!"
"...."
At first Hao Xuan thought she was trying to make a joke to lighten the mood but when he realized she was a hundred percent serious he couldn't help but apologize for some reason. Her sincerity was contagious.
"I'm not- I didn't-...sorry."
"That's better, thank you."
She extended a hand for support and he grabbed it out of a non-existent habit. She jumped down while continuing with the lecture.
"Manners maketh a man. You must always act appropriately at all times."
"Ah- Yes," he almost bowed to her before coming to his senses.
'???'
'What the fuck am I doing?? She is a servant of the head maid, who the hell is she to- whatever.'
He pulled back his hand to distance himself from Lady Yuki.
"You did not answer my question, how did you get in here? Do you know who created the gateway?"
She fixed her dress and made sure her "disguise" was still in place before firing off a query of her own.
"How did you know it was I and not another person?"
Hao Xuan wasn't in the mood to answer any questions but she didn't give off the impression that she would let it go so...
"Your scent is quite unique and I have a sharp nose. Now you answer, how did you enter this place without a mark?"
Lady Yuki shook her head as if she was explaining the same thing for the 100th time to someone.
"Only those with the marks of the Old Gods can enter, yes?"
He nodded.
"And I am here?"
He nodded again.
"Ergo, I must have a mark."
"That's not how it works. You are a nobody, lacking both power and status. Marks are not simply doled out to just anyone and even if they were, I would still be able to sense yours."
There was a look of sheer disappointment on her face as she gestured towards his chains, "I would think someone in your position would be less judgemental towards others."
